The place for any special occasion!!an all around gastro trip, creative plus..
Très bon repas et choix de vins. Service non prétentieux. Configuration des lieux originale.
State of art food! Totally worth the tasting menu experience. A little disappointed by the price of the wine by “the 3oz glass”.
Our waitress Fanie was very knowledgeable and attentive. The surroundings were very nice.
Merci pour une belle expérience culinaire. Il y a beaucoup de travail derrière chaque plat. Original et savoureux!
As always Pastel delivers the quality, the innovation of chef Jason. This is our third time and we marvel at the creations on our plate. Kabir in front of the house and Fanny our server, are attentive and friendly. a big 10 from us.
Les plats étaient créatifs et délicieux. Chère mais ca vaut le prix!
The food, the service, the overall experience were oustanding! I would highly reccommand.
Phenomenal food and fantastic experience! One of the best culinary experiences I have had in Canada. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Delicious and interesting culinary creations with an impeccable wine list and beautiful service.
Pastel was extremely good. A refreshing change. Could really say this was a different switch from the bistro scene. Their tasting menu was very inventive, outstanding presentation, superb flavours, textures and overwhelming variety in a tight 9 course package. Service was very charming and attentive.
Wonderful restaurant. Really nice ambiance and comfortable
Service is impeccable and food is excellent but small tasting portions so don’t go with a huge appetite you may leave a little hungry. Otherwise highly recommend
The menu is presented in a very simple manor and there starts the experience. Every description, presentation of the plate, service, comments enhence this culinary experience. The plates are work of art in it self and what to say about Mr Kapoor, co-owner which presents each plate with such elegance, simplicity and art. It was a first time I felt the passion the owner had for his work. And a very important mention is for the staff, which makes you feel privileged and special. Thank you all!
Exceptional food & wine along with fabulous service. The ambiance of the space is also fantastic. One of the best new Montreal restaurants we've been to in years, highly recommend!
We made a reservation at the bar, which I believe you always should, and boy did we luck out!! Allie was our bartender, and also our server, runner, and everything else. She walked us through all the food in the exquisite wine pairings, and even offered up some cocktails of her own to enhance our dinner. Couldn't recommend her or pastel enough, we will certainly be back!
Great service and food but for the price I would have wish bigger portion!
Amazing experience. The food was very intricate and delicious. The flow of the dinner service was smooth - we maybe waited 5 mins inbetween courses (maybe even less). It is a little pricy but we were happy with the quality and amount. We got the full service (7 savory courses, cheese dish [extra $10], 2 dessert dishes, complimentary birthday dessert, and a bottle of wine) and it was about $475 with tax and tips.
Belle découverte! Un des meilleurs restos à Montréal. On y retourne le plus tôt possible!
Overpriced and underfed! Beautiful presentation, great service and attention to detail however main objective of a restaurant is to eat.... portions were extremely disappointingly miniscule.
Food was amazingly good! Mix of flavours and texture on the 9-course menu. Service was impeccable. They even adapted the menu for intolerances.
Very few restaurants if this quality in Montreal. 9 services menu is outstanding. Smiley, professional, young staff. Amazing house cocktail. Pricey
Pastel manages something truly remarkable: making fine dining playful and fun. This was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in recent memory and I'm not limiting that statement to Montreal. Each dish was stunning both in composition and flavor. My scallop was perfectly cooked, quail juicy with just a hint of smoke and the saucier knocked it out of the park on all counts
Add on an 80s good vibes playlist and dessert that elevates the "fry dipped in milk shake" combo? This is serious food that doesn't take itself too seriously. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Quite possibly the best meal I've had in the last year, or maybe two. Excellent food, but it's the personal touch of service that takes it over the top (i.e., the owner, Mr. Kapoor, bringing over your coats at the end of the meal and asking for your feedback.)
We did the menu with wine service. It was delicious
Really? Feeling taken. I love interesting combinations and fresh tasty food. This restaurant was given a great review but did not live up to its reputation. Our 9 course tasting menu dinner would have fit on one medium sized plate. A strip of a chip with chicken mousse spread on it as the first course? 3 tiny endive leaves with a dab of walnut puree in a raspberry vinaigrette as the second? I was hard pressed to find a favorite course when I was asked what I liked most about our meal. I would have to say the sauces were really good and that is how we satiated our appetite mostly, by taking the house baked bread that we were offered two times, thankfully, and soaking up the delicious sauce. The explanation for the plate took longer than the time to swallow the teensy bites which were tasty, but not exceptionally so and sometimes overly salty. We had one server who would explain the dish and run, embarrassed perhaps? And $9 each for tea on top of the $120 pp tasting menu price? I felt like a character in the story of The Emperor's New Clothes. The hostess and the wait staff, mostly, were very friendly and likeable but that is not enough to overpower the feeling that I was cheated.
We all hugely enjoyed our evening at Pastel; the food was overall amazing, my favourite dish was the quail - really enjoyed the rub on that. But for me it was the obvious care and thought that had gone into everything - the feeling of spaciousness, the lighting, right down to the dishes themselves, some of which had been designed and made to suit a specific dish (my luscious birthday ice cream covered in pastel coloured chocolate confetti was served in a bowl that resembled a top hat!!) Renée our server did a super job of explaining the different wines and how they were chosen to pare with the specific dish - just really knowledgeable and generous with it.
All in all a great evening - merci Renée, Louie and Melinda!
Inventive playful & thoughtful with exceptional service. Only bit of disappointment was the end of the meal with two desserts that both lacked in execution & flavor. One was beautiful & resembled egg but overkill with gelatin to the pint of a thick gluey blob with not much flavor. Hazelnut & parsnip - nice concept but not a dessert / dry & bland. Perhaps reconfigure with hazelnut flan & parsnip caramel or something of the sort. Everything else was excellent.
We had the 9 course tasting menu and really enjoyed the majority of dishes that were well thought out and executed. What we really liked was that they offer a different non alcoholic drink that pairs with each course.
The standout dishes were the pasta, quail sausage and the beef.
There is a nice ambience, we liked the open kitchen and they did little modifications to the menu for my pregnant wife.
We ate at the bar and had an entertaining view of the kitchen. We had the set menu and found everything to be excellent and meticulously prepared. The service was professional and friendly. An expensive meal but overall worth it; one of the best newer restaurants downtown.
Hello Jeffrey! Thank you for the kind words! Come back soon, we now offer our Table d'Hôte menu at 59$ on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Incredible from start to finish! One of the best dining experiences I've ever had in Montreal, and that is really saying something.
Hello Melissa! Thank you for the amazing feedback. We hope to welcome you again soon!
Very good restaurant. Perfect service. A bit expensive especially for the unmistakable tasting menu and the wine pairing.
Hello Melanie! Thank you for the feedback. We hope to welcome you soon, especially for our Table d'Hôte menu at 59$ that we offer on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday!
My Fiance and I like to try high end restaurants once in a while for the experience. Sad to say we are typically disappointed with the taste of the food vs cost. Pastel was the first place where we really felt like it was worth the money. The open kitchen concept, the very friendly/welcoming staff, and the taste of the food was fantastic. Yes the portions are not large, however the amouse bouche, home made bread, and cheeses coupled in with the main course did not leave us wanting more. Pastel is highly recommended.
Hello Dilon! It was an absolute pleasure to meet you the other night. I hope we can welcome you soon for our tasting menu! Thank you for the kind words!
The ambiance at Pastel was nice, quiet but chic. The service was good waiter was attentive but unfortunately could not answer specific questions example what was the pasta sauce. Although the food was tasty the portions were laughable. It’s a good thing they give huge portions of bread which were delicious but also the majority of what you eat. I had a three course meal and opted for an additional plate of cheese for an extra $10. The cheese was bigger than my main meal. Tasty food and applaud the creativity but would not return simply because of the portion size.
Extravagantly delicious, extravagantly expensive. Fine art for the palate. A unique experience. We were in a delighted state when we left.
Hello Richard, thank you so much for the kind words. It was a pleasure to welcome you! For future references, we do offer our Table d'Hôte menu at 59$ per person on week nights (wednesday, thursday and sunday). We hope to see you soon!
Although the food was extraordinary delicious it was quite pricy. For a special occasion it's worth going and spending the extra.
Hello Pierre! Thank you for the feedback! We do offer our Table d'Hôte menu on week nights at 59$ (wednesday, thursday, sunday). We hope to welcome you soon, it was a pleasure!
The price is outrageous for the amount of food provided. On Friday's and Saturday's you must take the 9 course tasting menu. The most food that we ever had in any of our 9 plates was about the size of a single slice from a sushi roll. And the least food we had was 4 small endive leaves. Furthermore, the fact that they are serving the same food to everyone means they are making even more money because there is no food lost in the kitchen. We left the restaurant hungry, and felt like we got ripped off.
What little food was offered was pretty good though. Certainly lots of creativity and flavours and textures.
Pastel is a tasting menu restaurant which prides itself in sourcing some of the best produce and ingredients in the world, we are sorry to hear you left hungry, as this is not very common at our restaurant- if you decide to dine with us again please let us know how you feel before leaving that way we may try to resolve any issues and preferences as our guests feedback is greatly appreciated during the meal.
Excellent food and amazing service. A fantastic gastronomic experience. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We hope to see you soon!!!
We had the surprise to be imposed the degustation menu at 110$ per person and we added the wine tasting experience at 80$ per person. We decided not to leave the restaurant and try it as we had read good critics. To be fair, the quantity for 9 services was well balanced so that you don’t feel too full. All plates were good , fresh and well presented. As we have visited most of all our Mtl finest restaurants, such as Toque, Maison Boulud, Jérôme Ferrer restaurant, Joe Beef... we estimate that the price charged would provide us with the same level of experience and we found it good but not comparable. From a wine perspective, they did not have a professional sommelier and we were served by a young student who seemed to have learned by heat nice words like ´élégant, joli ´ to describe the various wines. They were private importation and some (2 out of 9) were not good.In conclusion, if it has been less expensive, I would have recommended it, but in this case, I don’t think they match the culinary experience of Mtl’s High end restaurant and definitely overpriced.
Hello Julie! We call all of our guests prior to the reservation to let them know the format and the pricing of our concept. If we are not able to reach you, we always leave a message. We are a young, passionnate team that excel in food prep and service. We do not have any students on our team and we do indeed have a fantastic sommelière who would gladly make a wine suggestions if she is requested. We hope to see you during the week for our 3-courses Table d'Hôte at 59$!
