Chef Tim Hollingsworth of Otium joins us in the kitchen on April 17th for our bistro dinner series! It’s almost like Dave & Tim have lived parallel lives. Chef Grant Achatz trained Dave at Alinea – he also briefly worked with Tim at The French Laundry. Dave became chef de cuisine of Alinea around the same time that Tim became chef de cuisine at The French Laundry. They met in 2008 during a set of collaboration dinners between Alinea, Per Se, & The French Laundry. The rest is history. Supplements & wine pairings available for purchase at dinner. Dietary restrictions politely declined. All sales are final and non-refundable. Please email info@pasjoli.com with any serious food allergies and concerns.

Chefs Katianna & John Hong of YANGBAN join us at pasjoli on April 24th for our final bistro dinner series! The cooking community is a small world – so none of us should be surprised that John was an intern while Dave was a sous chef at Alinea back in 2007. Dave ran into John & Katianna at the LA Times 101 Party back in December 2023 & immediately knew that we had to invite them to pasjoli to cook. They’re adding a few French touches to their genre-defying Korean-American concept for the evening. Supplements & wine pairings available for purchase at dinner. Went in for a special event in which everyone prepaid ~$170 per person. The food was good, but not accessible to all types of eaters. This is fine, but the menu wasnt known until we arrived. Service was great. Drinks were almost $30 for a glass of wine plus 18% gratuity on top, which after prepaying ~$170 for the food felt very steep. They charged us $9 for an additional loaf of bread after telling us that essentially every course should be paired with bread...In all the food was good (not great) but I definitely felt the value was not at all there and this should have cost closer to $80 a person. I could have paid that same amount and gotten an amazing meal of my choosing at a nice restaurant along with appetizers and drinks. Live and learn I guess.

Made our reservation here while visiting Santa Monica, for two reasons; I thought (incorrectly) it was a one Michelin Star restaurant, and the chef was from Chicago and had been at Alinea and Next. So I had high expectations. The restaurant was nice and we were seated outdoors in the “Secret Garden”. The menu was a la carte and I was beginning to suspect it wasn’t a Michelin star rated restaurant. Wife and I shared an onion tart and both ordered swordfish. The onion tart was quite good, but not OMG good as you might expect at a Michelin rated restaurant. The swordfish was also quite good, but lacked enough of the sauce and the wife thought it was dry. Dessert was a rice pudding that was very good and included pineapple and candied almonds. Overall a nice dining experience, but (my fault), was not the Michelin experience I hoped for.

Always unexpected. We had the veal and sweetbreads which were perfectly offset by the lemon and salad frisee. The gruyere was more than we needed, but the steak tartare and escargot were beyond reproach.

The staff were incredibly snooty which is strange especially since every single one looked like they’d just rolled out of bed and couldn’t bother to put a comb through their hair. This is not a fine dining restaurant. You will be served mediocre food by a team of miserable looking newly-turned adults who clearly would be anywhere else than there. I wont be back.

We went to Pasjoli for a special night that had a Thai chef working in the kitchen with Chef Beren. The restaurant just started to do this and they will bring in guest chefs for special meals. It is a set menu and a set price. Although pricey it was an exceptional evening. The food was outstanding! It was a great experience.

I knew Chef Dave was a great chef after an amazing meal at the now closed Dialogue, for some reason we finally just made it to Pasjoli and I am sorry we waited so long. The food was exceptional the gratin dish had potatoes sliced so thin, you could almost see through them, but not really the cheesy deliciousness hid it very well but just loved the thin texture. I had the Boeuff and since I took 3 hours of French class in high school so I pronounced it right when I ordered it and our uber attentive waiter said he was very impressed with my pronunciation. Have to say, I dont mind being complimented, it made the experience that much more delightful. Also had some little round ball dish, I dont recall the name but I cant forget the sauce that you get to pour over it. When the waiter tried to take the little container away my wife almost slapped him because she insisted on dipping anything else she had left to gather the last drop of amazingness. Cant wait to go back! Oui Oui.

I was disappointed. We had been here pre-COVID and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Part of that experience was the "pressed duck show" table side presentation. We ordered the duck again but were not advised that the "show" is no longer part of the program. We had guests from out of state. No one raved about any of the food except the beet salad. We had monkfish and sturgeon. Good. Not great. Appetizers: gouger, pate, deviled eggs were all very good. Server - Chris -was attentive. We spent nearly $800 for 4 people with no wine or dessert. The value proposition is not good. We sat in the garden which was quiet but looked like a space set up for COVID dining. No charm.

As a repeat customer over years having had great food in past visits I was very disappointed with the what was supposed to be the amazing dry aged steak! While it was cooked to right temp the meat was extremely tough and lots of sinew all over the steak .it may as well been inexpensive supermarket steak. The service staff were all great my server Luke was kind and attentive I can not say same with manager or whoever was in charge of kitchen! While disappointed hopefully next visit will bring my faith back in consistent great food .

No complaints about the food. The biggest problem was the service. It started off fine, we ordered the food and drinks with our waitress. The food started coming out and the waitress never came back to our table to see how everything was or to check if we were done with the courses. I had to flag someone else down every time to tell them to clear the plates and that we were ready for the next course. I found it very irritating that she was checking on every other table except ours. I would have ordered another glass of wine but I couldn't order it with anyone. Not sure what her problem was. It was also very disappointing to see that there was an 18% gratuity included in the bill because it was definitely not deserved. Probably will not be returning.

The food at Pasjoli did not disappoint at all. We had the deviled eggs (loved), beet salad (liked), pressed duck for 2 (more than loved), sturgeon (more than loved), potatoes au gratin (more than loved), chocolate souffle (loved), and the lemon curd in a meringue (loved). The courses were paced well and the food arrived at the appropriate temperatures. I dinged the service not b/c it wasn't pleasant, all the people in the restaurant were friendly and happy to help, but the service provided seemed disjointed and a bit delayed. This never rose to being an irritant, but it was noticed. When I compare the service here to other restaurants at this price point, and quality, Pasjoli does need to step up its game to earn 4 or 5 stars for service. I have read several reviews focussed on Pasjoli's surly service, and we noticed no sign of that. We would 100% return to Pasjoli. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was friendly, and the vibe, for a high end restaurant, was relaxed which we also appreciated.

The food at Pas Jolie is very good, but the prices are over the top. The wine list offers offering only three wines under $100, and the majority are well over $125. The entrees are in the $60 and up range, and a side of broccoli is $21. I mean, in what world is broccoli worth that price? The wines that are in the $100 range are average at best and not worth the price. Again, the food is good, but I think the prices are really high, and if we do go back, we will definitely bring our own wine and pay a corkage fee.

Excellent food. Service was a little off. Waiter did not have many recommendations or details on the dishes. It was a birthday and we didn't order a dessert so they just brought over a candle and said here is this since you didn't order dessert. Would at least bring a piece of chocolate or something. Otherwise skip the candle.

I was so excited to dine there but my expectations weren’t met. The problem here is that everything was just okay. It wasn’t great. My $26 cocktail was OKAY. Caviar was good but you can’t go wrong with caviar. The cheese puffs in the appetiser section were actually bad. I honestly was shocked how bad they were. Tasted like something they served out of closet. Old and dry. Champignon dish was also OKAY. Ribs were okay but gave my bf a heartburn later on. Wine was actually great but over $600 for just OKAY? No, thank you. I’m all for fine dining experience and money isn’t the issue. But it wasn’t it. I feel like I was fooled.

This is simply a superb restaurant, and the food is fabulous. Though the duck is incredible, the other entrees are outstanding. Thankfully the noise/music level is at a minimum, so its a great place to enjoy the food and converse with your guests as well.

Pricey for the duck but it was well worth it. Terrific service. Beautiful clean spot.

We liked pasjoli so much we dined their twice on our visit to Los Angeles. The first time, we came for the pressed duck which was exquisite. We loved the wonderful variety of duck dishes each done to perfection. We're sort of duck fanatics who make our own duck confit - thank you Madeleine Kamman - and duck with green olives. We ordered the amazing steak tartare and the snails with bone marrow on each visit, and we went wild on the desserts with one of the best chocolate souffles and rice puddings, but the true winner was the passion fruit cake. Did we mention the chicken liver pate? It was in a class of its own. On our second visit, we were not disappointed by the beef short ribs - astounding or the lotte or grouper. Amusingly, our Lyft driver who took us to pasjoli the first time remarked on the name. He was a French immigrant, so he pointed out that the name meant not pretty. Actually, the restaurant was pretty good looking, but the whole point was the food.

This restaurant was 10/10. The food was amazing, the service was spectacular and the drinks were great. One of the best French bistro out here! Great job, chef!

We tried about 50% of their appetizers and starters. While good, it tasted pre-prepared. For the main dish we split an order of the monk fish. That was amaaaazing! So delicious.

Friendliest service without pretentiousness at a French dining level where you sometimes expect this type of vibe. Wonderful food. Not too loud so you can have conversations. Casual-chic. Highly recommend.
