Parts & Labour opened in 2010 to major acclaim as the new cultural hub of Parkdale – the hip west end neighborhood in downtown Toronto. The 5,000 square-foot space boasts a haute cuisine restaurant/bar overseen by Chef Matty Matheson, who harvests some of his ingredients from the rooftop garden. A live-music venue on the lower level rounds out the experience brought to you by the guys behind The Social, Oddfellows and Castor.

Hospitality is all about making people feel welcome and celebrating food and drink with strangers. Parts and Labour is all about uber cool individuals condescending you as you try and experience a new restaurant/ dining experience There are too many great chefs and good places to eat in this city to have to endure pretentious poor front of house attitudes, the decoration is cool and thats about it..... will not be back

My experience at Parts & Labour is bittersweet. Having heard such great things about the place, I ofcourse expected great things. I did not expect it to be so empty. I'm sure if it were fuller my opinion of the ambience would be different. So given that the place was empty, I was expecting better service. Alas it's one of those things where the restaurant is slow so the service becomes slow and complacent. A few points on service. Please know what you are serving. It's hard to hear "I think that is..." or point to something that looks obviously like octopus and say it's chicken. Another point...offer and serve sugar with coffee. Even if it is espresso. Food was very good and the saving grace of the experience. Maybe I will re-try

Smart service, and a menu that always changes and expands beyond the 7-8 options listed into at least 3 pretty interesting specials. There's easy comfort food and some more abitious stuff as well. The new menu is meat-heavy, but retained a few veggie, vegan, and catch of the day options. A very easy place to have a nice dinner and a few drinks. The decision to combine starters and mains onto one list will invite questions, but our server quite reasonably explained that price was a good guide to size, and that generally held true.

Had a great brunch at Parts & Labour. The items on the menu are comfort-food type dishes that I love to eat. Well-prepared and presented nicely. Bottomless coffee. Perfect.

After reading an article about Parts & Labour and their famed brunch menu I had to book a table. Reservations weren't necessary however. The group seating at picnic tables is modern and social but not comfortable. The restaurant is certainly unique. Brunch choices were more limited than I had expected. I had something with maple and honestly that's all I can remember is the maple. It was so sweet and so overpowering that I could not eat my food. In fact, I have steered away from anything that said it has 'maple' at a restaurant since that day. My husband's food was rustic, a good portion and delicious. A nice place to stop in and eat. Not for a date night.

This was my first time to the restaurant. I went with a group of friends. We liked the atmosphere and energy of the place, a great space. The food was very good, had a good variety, we all ordered the specals. The wait staff was friendly, he made suggestions on the menu. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends.

Quite enjoyed the experience. Been meaning to try P&L for a while and it definitely met expectations. Though it didnt blow my mind I'd be comfortable taking friends. Good time was had by all! Service was pleasant and friendly although it took 60 minutes to serve 3 entrees and the restaurant was at about 50% capacity. Points for serving the burger medium rare! If I was in the neighborhood I'd absolutely go again but I live on the east side and I may or may not cross the city for another visit.

After moving to the neighbourhood a few months ago, I have been systematically working my way through some of the more notable local restaurants. Parts & Labour was definitely on my radar. Glad I checked it out. The restaurant itself is interesting for its communal tables, novel interior design choices, and working wood burning stove in the waiting area. A friend and I started with dates stuffed with tellegio (sheep's milk) cheese and wrapped in bacon, called Devils on Horseback. Then we shared a KFC-inspired meal for two, a special that day: Fried chicken, creamed corn with ham, steamed baby potatoes, biscuits, with some hot sauce on the side. Food was very good. Service was prompt and helpful.

The Parts fit; that is the food was good. We ordered Devils on Horseback, not knowing what they were - I won't ruin the surprise - suffice it to say that they were amusing and yummy. My girl enjoyed the roast beef dinner - a juicy lump of meat nestled next to a cloud of mashed potato and decorated with cream cheese and chives. I'm not sure what was done to her carrots, but she absolutely loved them. I made the poor choice with a very salty duck leg. The Labour (a waitress from the 1950s and dudes in tight pants and checked shirts) gave friendly, low-key service. They have huge banquet tables so we were somewhat in terror that someone might be seated next to us, but that didn't come to pass. Enjoyable overall and the lighting is fun.

Cool vibey space with towering servers who looked like a group of lumberjacks, flannel shirts, touques and all. My favourite was a new app which is corn dog made with house-made hotdogs and sauerkraut - yummy. Most excellent selection of cocktails. Worth a visit.

Brought my good friend from NYC here for dinner and both of us were quite impressed. There were so many options. Our server made some excellent suggestions like splitting the mammoth pork chop special and proceeded to help us select other complimentary dishes to round out our meal. We weren’t disappointed. Communal tables make it a little challenging for an in-depth catch up conversation but the large group beside us were pretty respectful while being friendly and welcoming at the same time.

I liked the energy of this place, sort of like a hipster cafeteria. The communal tables are a great too, a little banter with strangers yet still enough elbow room and privacy. We split a special 35oz ribeye on the bone three ways. it was delicious. A pregnant woman in our group ordered the burger medium but it arrived rare. They quickly made her another one and because it came much later than the rest of our meal they took it off the bill. Not a romantic spot but lively and fun.

The starters were ample and interesting -- the escarole salad was as large as a main; flavours were complementary; the treviso and cornbread muffin were especially delicious highlights; honeycomb perhaps too sweet. Cured whitefish was fantastic with lovely sauce; potato chips very creative format. Mains less interesting: whitefish with poached egg somewhat uneventful; pumpkin gnocchi perhaps slightly undercooked, pumpkin difficult to detect, roasted cauliflower interesting with curry flavouring. Riesling and gruner wines went well with our meal. Too full for dessert. Service friendly. Design and decor wonderful to look at. Communal table somewhat disruptive (clientele shuttling constantly between bar and a man seated next to us). Fun music.

Fantastic gem of a local neighbourhood restaurant. Great creative menu picks without being too 'hairbrained' for the more moderate eaters. The bone marrow and beef tartar were great starts, couldn't say enough about the hamburger, and I'm not a burger fan, and the desserts (apple pie creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake) were each better than the last.

Parts and Labour is not only an amazing dining experience but the communal table seating make it very conducive to meeting new people and having a fun time too. A great place to have a birthday celebration if you don't mind the noise level which is the only drawback to dining at Parts and Labour.

Share plates (smoked salmon and grilled pear with green onion) were a terrifi start. Three of four entres ordered were inspired (burger, halibut, and gnudi) while the farfalle was exhaustingly smokey and far too spicy (chorizo) to be enjoyable, even for a tolerant palate. Dessert (cookies and cream terrine) was a big hit. Service while friendly and knowledgable, became slow when things got busy. Good craft beer selection. The large tables present a service logistics problem, but would be fun for larger groups. The food will bring us back.

Really great atmosphere and vibe but noisy- don't expect intimate conversation here. The communal dining concept was a lot of fun as we chatted with our neighbours. The menu was hard to understand as it used a lot of ingredients I had never heard of and had to google but it was delicious. My recommendation is for the Devils on Horseback. Our server left something to be desired as he rarely visited our table, never came to take our dessert orders (we had to go find him and the bar and even then he was rather dismissive and snarky), and has heavy on the sarcasm when speaking to us but the other servers were very polite when they dropped off food or picked up our empties.

We went on a Tuesday night as it was our anniversary. We sat at one of the chef's tables and had a great view of the kitchen. The food was perfectly cooked. The service was awesome, fast and friendly. Mind you, it was a very slow night there (given it was a Tuesday night and all) so, I can see it getting louder and crazier on a busy night. Overall, I would definitely be back!

The theme of a mechanics shop is well carried out, from the decor to the lighting fixtures, however the challenge with the restaurant is the SERVICE. The space is deceptively large and therefore more Service staff are required, and food delivery requires more interaction. The food was okay and so the overall focus on the parts and the labour don't add up to total quality.

Have been several times now with a few friends and large family groups. Everytime has been spectacular! Having been a big fan of Chef Matty Matheson's cuisine back in his Oddfellows days, Parts and Labour sees him taking his skills to the next level. Where as Oddfellows felt like gourmet comfort food, Parts is a fair bit more elegant and skillful. It's equal parts fine dining and gastropub adventure. Every visit I've had something new, and something I've never eaten before. Menus seem to change seasonally, which really gives you a new level of excitement with semi frequent visits. Appetizers are always extremely creative. Fish is always phenomenal and refreshingly light; Meat dishes are hearty, savoury and never bland; P&L is a must try!
