About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for outdoor dining
Founded in 1989 by Jeremy Mogford, Parsonage Grill is a Cotswold-esque bolthole located within the 5 star 17th century Old Parsonage Hotel in central Oxford on Banbury Road.

Famous for its intimate, bohemian, clubby atmosphere, the Parsonage Grill and its private dining space, the ‘Pike Room’, displays a carefully curated collection of eclectic oil paintings, original stone fireplaces, leaded light windows and a Bloomsbury club ambience throughout. Outside, inspired by the legendary Jardin Majorelle, created by Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech, a beautiful walled terrace sits dappled in the sun. This newly revitalised space seamlessly blends traditional British elegance with the vibrant energy of North Africa.

The Parsonage Grill team take pride in creating classic British dishes with a modern, light touch, and are open every day of the year to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and our famous afternoon teas, in the company of Oxford’s academic and literary luminaries...

We felt that we were made very much at home at The Old Parsonage, and they gave us time to choose what we wanted and answered all our questions. We were served delicious food by helpful and attentive hosts and couldn't have asked for better service.

We always love to visit Old Parsonage and Quod when in Oxford. Both places always deliver wonderful food and ambience. The minor difference yesterday over our lunch at noon was sound of bells from the nearest church which was going on for a hour! 😂 My partner ordered 2 glasses of champagne and both times champagne was flat and second time not chilled enough. Otherwise the waiters, food, outside table were really lovely. We will definitely be back soon.

Thank you for your lovely review - I am delighted to hear you enjoyed our beautiful garden, and service. Apologies for the issue with the champagne, I will be sure to look into why this was. I look forward to seeing you again soon. -Sam, General Manager

Obviously a very busy restaurant on Father’s Day but the staff were smiling and helpful, if food was a little late. I chose a main course salad of prawns, crab and hot smoked salmon. It came in a bowl and was rather tasteless. The prawns, the quality of which I would never have expected from such an establishment, were those tiny pink peen frozen watery commas found in cheap supermarket aisles. Totally tasteless. A very small amount of crab could be found under a lettuce. The salmon flakes were OK

Thank you for your feedback. I'm happy the team made you feel welcome, especially on the special day! Sorry to hear the seafood salad didn’t hit the mark for you I will definitely be looking into this. Appreciate you letting us know, and I hope you’ll give us another try sometime! Hugely disappointing. Had made a booking but waited 20 minutes to be seated even though there were plenty of spaces outside. Ordered omelettes and they came undercooked and without toast after a long time. Asked for them to be cooked more and they arrived 20 minutes later again with no toast and no garnish. We asked for toast (again) and waited 10 minutes and then told the manager that we were leaving. Old Parsonage used to be an absolute favourite but if this is what to expect then we won't visit again!

Dear Jane, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry for the delays and the way your breakfast was handled — that’s definitely not the standard we want to provide, especially to returning guests. We appreciate your honesty and will be addressing these issues with our team to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We would like to invite you back for breakfast to give us the opportunity to make it up to you and restore your confidence in us. Please get in contact with me directly and I will organise this with you. Many thanks Hamilton - Restaurant Manager

service was not great, food was only ok. Low quality for the price. Garden is nice though!
Parsonage GrillResponded on June 16, 2025
Dear Evrim, Thanks your your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed our garden space! Sorry to hear that the service impacted your breakfast with us. This is certainly not the standard we aim to uphold, and we take comments like yours seriously. We’d love the opportunity to make it up to you and restore your confidence in us. Please let us know if you'd consider a return visit—we'd be happy to organise this directly. Hamilton - Restaurant Manager
