Parkway: Social Kitchen
A Kansas City native who spent 10 years traveling with his family, he returned to Kansas City with an appreciation of all things close to home.
“Local is better because it’s always fresher,” Hammack says. “We get everything as close to Parkway as we can.”
With a little kitchen warmed by a traditional wood-burning oven, Hammack says there’s no room for anything but the highest-quality, freshest ingredients. Hammack maintains a steadfast attention to detail and a commitment to fresh and locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Everything at Parkway Social Kitchen is made from scratch daily.
A meal at Parkway isn’t going to be some tiny, fanciful dish with ingredients you can’t pronounce. Hammack makes familiar food that’s honest, down to earth and perfectly executed.
Soup, salad, appetizer were very good. Main entree’s were meh. Music downstairs was fun.
Tried two tables to find one that didn’t wobble. Chicken very garlicky
It was wonderful! The gourmet grilled cheese was amazing! The tater tots we so good! They had live music, which was a good level to still be able to talk upstairs, downstairs it was to loud to talk! We had a great time!
I plan on taking my parents soon. I had the fried chicken salad. It was so amazing.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal with excellent service. We are looking forward to returning soon.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and great entertainment!
Very enjoyable meal and experience overall. Some of the food was really great (prime rib sandwich) other items were a little underwhelming and came out cold/bland (rotisserie chicken). The server did a great job and appreciate his efforts. Atmosphere is great for some casual meals and a good bar scene.
Had a really nice evening, food was delicious and rally enjoyed the music.
Great place! We loved it!
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was exceptional. We tried the Parkway Salad and the Brussel Sprout Salad and both were great! The sauces on the sweet potato and pork chop made those items quite tasty! The desserts were fabulous, and thanks to our server, we tried both the key lime and brownie options and were so glad we did! We really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere.
Soup had good flavor but served lukewarm. Entry was served lukewarm as well. Grilled shrimp was too done and over spiced. Husbands steak was not hot enough and lacked flavor. Mushrooms were really good though! Kelsey our server was also awesome!
Great meal during restaurant week. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and the mac and cheese was on another level. Service was also 10/10.
We happened to go on Restaurant Week. I had the pork chop with the sweet potato; it was delicious.
My friend had the salad and mac n cheese. Her salad was huge and she really liked it.
Restaurant week offerings were a little too simple and straightforward. Luckily they were delicious.
Great food and value. Service was excellent and food arrived quickly....hot, fresh, and on point. Will be back soon.
With a reservation we waited about 20 minutes for our table. Our server was great and our food came out quickly. Everything tasted good, salads were fresh, the pork chop was slightly dry however.
After making a reservation for a lunch meeting, my party arrived 10 minutes prior to the reservation. We waited 40 minutes to be seated while an 8 top table and a 9 top were open in the middle of the dining room. The hostess told us that she was told by management that she could not break up the tables despite having 4 more reservations ahead of us and 2 after my party waiting to be seated. The tables were reserved for reservations that were yet to arrive. And as predicted, those parties arrived 20 and 35 minutes after my reservation and were seated immediately. We were unable to conduct any business and were rushed throughout our meal to leave on time. My out of town guests were unable to finish the desert and they were leaving for the airport and couldn’t take it with them. Unfortunately, it was a very poor ending to my business meeting and left my guests with a bad experience with plaza dining. I greatly enjoy the food at Parkway, but will be very reluctant to return for any future business engagements.
While the food was fine, overcooked, but fine. My problem is that I had to wait 40 minutes for a table even though I had a reservation. There was an empty larger table that could have been broken up, but they were saving that for people who had reservations 30 minutes after me. It was really frustrating to see them get sat right when they walked in. And not just to us, but also to the 7 other parties who were stuck waiting to be sat as well. It would be different if they gave any impression that they were hurrying or even sorry that we were waiting. Instead, they treated us as an inconvenience and for that, I doubt I'll be back.
The food was excellent!! However, we waited 90 min for our food. They restaurant was running behind...
First time dining and I’m definitely coming back.
The food was amazing. The service was also really great. We did have a newer service who was so sweet but you could tell she was newer. I’m sure starting your first week during restaurant week isn’t easy. She forgot to bring me my drink three times after I first ordered it and kept asking for it again. Which was totally fine I understand having fluster brain... overall I would recommend it!
We ate at Parkway for the first time during restaurant week and loved it! The food was great and I would especially recommend the tomato bisque - I would go back just for that soup. The atmosphere was also nice and we’re looking forward to going back for live music and drinks.
The only drawback was the service. It seemed like others wasn’t great but we also aren’t deterred from going back.
Absolutely wonderful! Our server even brought my mom and I a cup of hot water for our hands after we came in from the snow.
Food was extremely impressive, especially if you factor in reasonable cost. Excellent ambiance and service. I'd call it casual fine dining. Really a gem on the plaza.
We attended the first day of Restaurant Week today and it was outstanding. Three of us started with the Brussel sprout salad and one had the tomato bisque soup. The salad was so delicious. It had shaved brussel sprouts, pecans, dried cranberries and goat cheese. The dressing was out of this world. For our entrees, three of us had the pork chop and one had the ahi tuna salad sandwich. The pork chop was absolutely juicy and perfectly cooked. The tuna salad sandwich was so fresh and perfectly seasoned. We ended our lunch with key lime pie that was so light and full of lime zest. The restaurant had great ambiance. Lastly, the our server was so courteous, efficient and responsive. We enjoyed our lunch immensely. We will return again.
Great food! Neat atmosphere. A little pricey for what you get.
Didn't have a great experience here. The food was not great - one of the worst salads I have had in a while. Ambiance was great though and the drinks were good.
Disappointed our waiter talked and talked about Houston’s how the dishes would compare and how everything was like Houston’s but it wasn’t
And we weren’t at Houston’s
Overpriced mediocre food trying to be Houston’s
4/10 will not return
Annual of Christmas tradition of catching a performance of the Nutcracker followed by dinner and a stroll on the Plaza. Our first (but not last) trip to Parkway Social made the evening a complete success for the two of us.
Maddie, our server, found ways to say yes to virtually every request. A true professional who knows how to look out for her guests. If you are fortunate enough to be seated in her section, follow her menu recommendations, I don't think you could go wrong.
The blackened trout was first rate. Lightly dusted instead of crusted with seasoning. This allowed the delicate, natural flavor of freshwater trout to stand out not be overwhelmed by the seasoning. A deft touch with Cajun and Creole seasoning is hard to find. But when done right, as it was for us, it is a culinary skill to be admired. If learned nothing else, five years immersed in the heart of Louisiana's French Acadiana, taught me that.
Accompaniments were cooked just right. The green beans lightly sauteed, al dente and hot. Very flavorful. Excellent companion to the trout.
Their choice of house coffee and the skillet brownie were great finishers to a meal well done!
Parkway is great for a date night/special occasion. They always have a great vegetarian entree option and my personal favorite starter is the tator tots! So good!
Great food and service. Bit pricey, but worth the spend for a date night or special occasion.
First time dining at this restaurant. We ordered two Southwest Chicken Salads, and were extremely disappointed. The salad hardly had any greens, no avocado (listed on the ingredients), and the blackened shredded chicken was pulverized to the point that it looked like dog food. Not impressed.
This is my new favorite place on the plaza. Everything I have tried here is so good! Service is excellent too.
Great experience at Parkway Social Kitchen. The Tator tots appetizer was to die for! The pork chop entree was the best pork chop in town! We had a great time meeting up with friends in the great atmosphere.
The food was excellent, decor was great, service was great. However, if you are going to dinner with a couple to enjoy an evening talking together it is not a good place. The noise lever is extremely high and it is very difficult to talk and hear without talking very loudly.
Great service and the food was surprisingly good. a little loud for nice conversation but definitely a fun relaxed vibe and elegant at the same time.
Food was great. Enjoyed everything. Key lime pie might be the best I ever had.
Only complaint was that it was very warm in there and the weather outside was about 32 degrees. I even felt claustrophobic due to heat.
Service was great too. Nice friendly.
Food and service were exceptional. Will definitely recommend and return. Live music was fine but more like a concert, just too loud / not right for the venue. Pork chop, prime rib, and grilled shrimp were all fabulous, large portions and beautifully presented. A great choice for dining on the Plaza!
The ribs were okay and salmon slightly undercooked. Overall a very nice experience.
