Parkside, a gastro pub in Austin’s lively downtown area is home to chef/owner Shawn Cirkiel. Located directly on Sixth Street it offers a casual venue for his unpretentious, but bold take on New American Cuisine. Offerings include a sumptuous raw bar—which often carries as many as 12 varieties of oysters. While the menu changes seasonally—even daily--diners can enjoy both dramatic dishes like seared scallops with butternut puree, jalapeno, and lime or comfort basics such as a cheeseburger or fried egg sandwich. Parkside accepts a limited number of reservations and reserves a section of the restaurant for walk-in guests each night. Seating is done on a first-come, first serve basis. All parties must be complete prior to being seated.

Parkside Ratings and Reviews
Great cocktails and wine selection
Great mac n cheese
Everything else was take it or leave it
Pork was dry and salmon was okay, broccoli had too much mustard? On it
Crab bisque was good but lacking in substance
Kind of fits the mold of high dollar and mediocre quality. Only reason to revisit here would be macnchz and drinks
Most of the vegetarian courses were tasty, although the miso butternut squash soup entree was a bit bland (perhaps it needed more miso). The mac and cheese and the broccoli were delicious, and the green salad was quite nice. Everyone else seemed happy with their food. Our cheerful waiter was great. We were a group of six friends and it was simply too noisy and the table was too long and narrow to have a group conversation, so I don’t think we would return at peak times or with more than four people.
Fabulous food. Terrific selection of east coast oysters and other raw bar items. Scallop dish was wonderful - fresh, sweet scallops with a richer accompaniment of mushrooms, ancient grains and greens. Bartenders are friendly and informative. Just a wonderful experience from start to finish.
We liked the ambiance of the restaurant. However, all of our food came out cold and it was disappointing. My friends also got steaks and asked for them Medium, but they were very under-cooked. Even when they sent them back they still came back quite rare. The service was also pretty slow. It wasn't a terrible experience, but I probably wouldn't go back.
Parkside never disappoints. Our server Kate was excellent - knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. The gnocchi was delicate and delicious and the acorn squash is a definite “don’t miss” side dish. Incredible. We will definitely book again, and will definitely ask for Kate.
We always enjoy Parkside. They have great raw food... Have a few oysters and then some steak tartare. Always pleasant. I really enjoy the attitude adjustment cocktail. We usually have the first drink at the bar and watch them shuck oysters. Somewhat casual and usually interesting people watching.
We were looking forward to our NY’s eve dinner at Parkside, having been recommended by our hotel’s Concierge. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, but the food and service was disappointing. It took over 30 minutes for our amuse biuche to be delivered. Our waiter was friendly, but it took him three times to get my appetizer delivered correctly. When it arrived, the peekytoe crab bruschetta was sitting on a cold piece of toast that you could barely slice through and it also lacked flavor. We were let down that the pasta dish consisted of only one piece of agnolotti (albeit a delicious one). Our sirloin steak was tough and about 2 inches long. The wine pairings were delicious and much enjoyed. For the price we paid, we did not think we received good value for what we expected to be a delicious meal.
We went for Christmas dinner and overall was a bit disappointed in the over all experience. The food was hit or miss. The beet and Cesar salads were both very good. The Blue Crab Soup tasted like roux and was warm at best. I loved the mac and cheese. The dessert we selected was very salty.
Parkside has been my favorite restaurant since I moved to Austin 8 years ago. The food and cocktails are amazing! Their service is always very attentive and nice. I love that they have a changing menu that always keeps our visits new and exciting. Their Happy Hour is definitely the best in town! The staples that are always excellent are the hamburger, bar steak, mac n'cheese, ceviche and gnocchi.
I chose this restaurant for a date with my wife on a Saturday evening at 8pm. We ordered two cocktails, the soup, NY Strip and Salmon entrees. The food was good, on par with other business casual dinning restaurants in Austin, but prices a bit more expensive. Everything is a la cart, no bread included. My wife found the one-page menu somewhat limited. The noise level in the dinning room next to the bar area was horrible. I could not have a conversation with my wife because everyone else in the room seemed to be screaming their conversations. The seats at the booths were too low for the table for a person 5'8" or shorter. I felt like I was eating at the "kids" table. The noise level in the bar area seemed more reasonable. We hurried to finish our entrees and left without coffee, dessert or more drinks.
Excellent food with unique preparation. Real chunks of crab in the soup bowl which broth is poured over and avacado in the ceviche we're all excellent. Flat iron pork was excellent with a very light fennel sauce was super tasty that came out precut made it easy to eat. Missed on the in warpper Zesta crackers for the civiche and non warmed bread, but overall still excellent food in a great atmosphere.
