Parkside, a gastro pub in Austin’s lively downtown area is home to chef/owner Shawn Cirkiel. Located directly on Sixth Street it offers a casual venue for his unpretentious, but bold take on New American Cuisine. Offerings include a sumptuous raw bar—which often carries as many as 12 varieties of oysters. While the menu changes seasonally—even daily--diners can enjoy both dramatic dishes like seared scallops with butternut puree, jalapeno, and lime or comfort basics such as a cheeseburger or fried egg sandwich. Parkside accepts a limited number of reservations and reserves a section of the restaurant for walk-in guests each night. Seating is done on a first-come, first serve basis. All parties must be complete prior to being seated.

I chose this restaurant for a date with my wife on a Saturday evening at 8pm. We ordered two cocktails, the soup, NY Strip and Salmon entrees. The food was good, on par with other business casual dinning restaurants in Austin, but prices a bit more expensive. Everything is a la cart, no bread included. My wife found the one-page menu somewhat limited. The noise level in the dinning room next to the bar area was horrible. I could not have a conversation with my wife because everyone else in the room seemed to be screaming their conversations. The seats at the booths were too low for the table for a person 5'8" or shorter. I felt like I was eating at the "kids" table. The noise level in the bar area seemed more reasonable. We hurried to finish our entrees and left without coffee, dessert or more drinks.
Excellent food with unique preparation. Real chunks of crab in the soup bowl which broth is poured over and avacado in the ceviche we're all excellent. Flat iron pork was excellent with a very light fennel sauce was super tasty that came out precut made it easy to eat. Missed on the in warpper Zesta crackers for the civiche and non warmed bread, but overall still excellent food in a great atmosphere.
This place was a major let down. Our table was unbalanced & wonky right off the bat, so we had to be moved, and our server was inconsistently attentive throughout. After all the research and local recommendations I had pretty solid expectations. My wife likes salt, but both of our main dishes were so salty as to be difficult to eat. Our appetizers of ceviches, fritters, and tuna toast were minimalist, unimaginative, and merely 'good'. When the bill came at $180 for 2 (only one glass of wine each, no dessert) and we weren't even full or satisfied, the disappointment came all the way home to roost. For $210 for 2 with tip on a special occasion leaving without a full belly or a buzz - PASS. There are so many places where we could have done so much better for 50% of the cost, let alone the full investment.
A very nice restaurant amid dirty 6th. We finally got a bottle of Sancerre in Texas. It was Delaport. It is always very good but this bottle could have been colder for our taste. Our shared appetizer was a tuna tartine. Tuna salad on toasted bread with garnishes. It was very good.
We also shared a mixed greens salad that was finished with Gorgonzola pecans and apples It was very good too.
The entrees, although sparse, were excellent. My wife enjoyed the salmon and the ny strip was cooked perfectly med rare. The mushrooms and sauce with this was outstanding.
We ended the meal with a frozen yogurt dessert which was very refreshing and delicious.
Overall it was an excellent experience and the service was outstanding.
This was our first experience at Parkside and we quite enjoyed it. We went for happy hour and got a few appetizers and cocktails. We believe our server was new because she wasn't super informative and spoke very softly. But she was prompt and did bring us some bread to use to finish off the butter drippings from our potato gnocchi appetizer, it was delicious! Our cocktails were great and the overall vibe was exactly what we were looking for for a Friday night happy hour date night. We will be back!
I would not recommend Parkside. The food was average at best. The entrees were small portions- they described them as 6 ounces. So basically they gave me a Half of a NY strip and someone else the other half but charged enough for the entire steak. The porchetta was poorly executed as it ended up being a plate of fat not properly rendered. Inedible. The sides weren't any better. The noise level was ridiculous, poor acoustics. I couldn't hear the person across the table from me.
This is one of those rare places where I feel at home dressing up or wearing a T-shirt and cut off jeans no matter what time I go. Happy Hour gets loud, but I could see having a quiet, more romantic dinner there during the later hours. The food is absolutely delicious and unique. The service is always friendly and never pretentious, unlike some other "foody" places. The happy hour food deals are great, and Wednesdays features half price oyster platters and sparkling wine all night. Fantastic!
We had a very nice server and the oysters were fabulous. But the wine seemed off, was very vinegary and seemed like a compromised bottle. Also they were out of the scallops I ordered so I went for the steak. Both our steak entrees were overlooked. There were parts of the med rare strip I ordered that were well done and none of it was med rare. Would go back for oysters but not much else.
our waiter Marten was fabulous! He was very familiar with all the menu and made great suggestions. Very personable!!!
All our food was great except my husband got the berkshire porchetta,though it was tasty, it was a very thin cut and really crispy. He was just ok with his entree. The rest of or party loved everything!
This restaurant had a great ambiance. However, the food was just fair. I ordered the Duck. It was not flavorful at all, but the side dishes that came with the meal were good. We also ordered a side of the fries. They were incredibly salty. We were not going to say anything, however the waitress, noticing that we barely touched them, asked if we did not like them. She then took the fries off our bill. Great customer service!
