Really a great surprise. Obviously a specialty place focused on performances. But food and service was great. BLT toast app was really special and buratta / tomato appetizer was well done with local(?) tomatoes. Skirt steak had great flavor grilled over wood and tomato / vegi accompaniment was wonderful. Very pretty space that surprises with excellent food/service setting up for enjoying stage performances.
The ambience is terrible. I felt like I was dining at the Holiday Inn! Very sad because the food was good. And Ravinia is magical. The prices are equivalent to those of a 5 Star downtown restaurant and this place isn’t even in that class. It needs a do-over.
Inventive and really good food.
Good food and good service - a great place to have a pre concert dinner at Ravinia.
Firat time here. The menu options were limited. The food was good but I don't feel the value/cost of the meal was worth it. The menu options were "short" but overall a good place for a nice date if you don't want to haul around coolers and bring your own food. Wine selection was great.
The wait staff was wonderful as was the bartender and the restaurant is nice. We made an earlier reservation so we could enjoy the time out (new parents to twins) and celebrate our anniversary. However from the moment we walked in, we were hurried along because they indicated they had about 80 people coming in for dinner. I wasn’t done with our starter salad and they were bringing out our entrees and asking about dessert. For the money spent, it would have been nice to actually enjoy our dinner and not have to worry about others coming in. The restaurant should properly staff on concert nights so everyone has a pleasant dining experience.
Food was good, but expect better at these prices. The place was only 25% full, but the service was slow and inattentive. Has great potential, but needs work.
The location has a great view of Ravinia Park. Food is good but the menu doesn't seem to change for the entire season. Service is spotty depending on how well staffed the restaurant is. It is a very nice place to dine prior to a performance.
great selections. Wonderful atmosphere. Fun place to dine prior to the concert.
Always an enjoyable time. Great atmosphere and a wonderful and relaxing experience prior to viewing concerts.
Park View at Ravinia is okay/good.
Pros: Eating at a"sit down" restaurant right at Ravinia before seeing the concert.
It is a pretty atmosphere with nice big windows that overlook the lawn.
Cons: Chicken entree was raw in the middle.
Waitress was very pushy and hurrying us along even though we were there in plenty of time before the show.
Had to order entrees with appetizers, no other option. We were told that they would course it out; however,
entrees were brought out before we were finished with appetizers.
Appetizers: Caesar Salad - Good - big portion. Beet Salad - Good. Burrata - very good.
Entrees: Chicken - Raw in center. Pasta - Not cooked well with lack of flavor. Skirt Steak - Okay.
Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake - Very good. Chocolate Tart - Good.
In the previous years I preferred eating at Park View; however, given their performance this time I now prefer Tree Top which had lovely service and better food quality.
A beautiful environment and view, but food and service was not great. The service members were very nice but obviously overloaded.
Professional and timely service. Small menu but excellent quality.
Well, it was better than being outside in the wind and rain, but . . .
The service was quite poor on a night when there were few diners, they did not have the wine I ordered (though it is still on the list), we were charged twice for a salad that had been ordered as an entree (I suppose double charged because they brought it out twice), and service so slow we had neither time to order dessert or to review the bill when it finally came as the concert was about to start. All in all, a very disappointing prelude to a wonderful concert.
Food was outstanding -- unexpectedly so.
Service OK. Very nice people but understaffed.
Bring your own wine. $25 corkage feel worth it, as their markup is 4x or more. E.g., they charged $72 for a bottle that is $16 retail, so we would end up ahead bringing our own and paying the $25.
Extremely disappointing. Slow service, poor quality food. Even the bread was poor quality. It's such a nice venue visually, but that's where it ends.
We had the chicken and the pasta dinners on Wednesday 8/15. Compliments to the chef. Both were delicious. We arrived early and were seated promptly. We had courteous and prompt service. We will be back.
Sorry to say that this place doesn't have its stuff together yet. It's Ravinia. It's August. This should be a much soother operation with better staff by now. The food was ok, though we were brought one wrong thing and several items were overcooked and burned...but it was the poor service that really ruined the experience and almost made us late for the show. What's worse, no one seemed to care when it was pretty clear what was going on. No one cleared our table, twice, so when they brought the next course (late) the servers were somehow annoyed with us that we hadn't cleared off some room for them. We had to ask for silverware several times, and we were made to feel as if we were somehow difficult.
The food was good, the service acceptable, but the prices were outrageous.
The entrees (salmon for 1 of us, chicken for the other) were enjoyable, except potatoes with the chicken were not sufficiently cooked. The BLT on toast appetizer was phenomenally delicious, and perfect for two to share. The gelato dessert was also excellent. Servers worked hard but are clearly still in training.
The chicken was great the salmon Caesar salad subpar. Not a lot of options but we did think it was nice before Ravinia. Didn’t know you could sit at the bar or how to check availability.
A good first year start .. but we were there on a nit busy night.
Our server lacked in training and attitude. The food was truly overpriced and left a bit to be desired in terms of preparation.
Server was particularly friendly, very well groomed and professional. He was very attentive to our needs. The food was good and nicely presented. Bread was a bit stale. We were early so it was a nice quiet place to be.
My companions and I agreed that the ambiance is lovely, and the service and the salmon were fine. The menu choices were diverse and interesting. But the cost of wines by the glass is expensive---far too expensive, and overall more costly than at some other comparable venues. It doesn't seem right that an average pour of a modest label and vintage should double the cost of dinner.
We have had many wonderful experiences at Park View but this visit was not the best. Our waiter spent a good 15 minutes looking for the wine we asked for (the house Sauvignon Blanc, not something esoteric). He came back with a bottle of what we had requested apologizing that he didn't have what we wanted. Later our bill included $120 for a bottle of wine -- clearly not the house SB that we wanted and drank. Other delays and confusion meant that we were rushed to get the Chanticleer performance (which actually made up for anything negative we experienced -- best we'd ever seen them). The food was solid but nothing extraordinary. They can (and usually do) do better!
Great food that is innovative. Soups are also creative and tasty.
Bartender Don good conversation and creative drinks.
All this and great music too!
Sunday concert restaurant half empty asked for four us us to sit by window - they said oh reserved - no reserved sign on four tables and no one ever came. Food passable - salmon overcooked, had special soup, one person couldnt eat so full of pepper. Dessert crumble no crumble just warm berries in juice. Drinks fine. Experienced this time again but if you dont want to drag picnic to Ravinia one of 4 options - think buffet was better.
your wine list is confusing--under wine by the bottle, there is no Pino Grisio but you have it listed by the glass with two prices--the second one is for a bottle
The salad was with crab legs but no small fork to dig out the crab or a cracker to crack the shell--made for difficult eating
we ate outside no noise was not a problem
the entre menu is kind of skinny--funny steak choice
As this restaurant is part of Ravinia Music Festival, it is only open mostly during Pavilion shows, and one must have a ticket to get into the gate to get to the restaurant. There are several restaurants associated with Ravinia, but they also are only open at certain events, during the summer. This particular one has fun views of the Park in order to people watch as they come in!
We dined on a quiet night with the dining room over half empty. The food was good. The service was a very "relaxed" and I can only assume they were anticipating a slow night and had a smaller than usual staff.
great place to eat before the concert - we could eat in leisure - no hurry - excellent service - however on the pricy side. But would go again.
Food quality and taste not the best
Food taste and quality gone down over the years. Not worth the price
Lovely setting looking out on the Ravinia grounds. Almost all seating is high-top. Menu is interesting, but could use one or two more salads to round it out. Limited offerings from bar, e.g., didn't have the ingredients for a Bellini and heard at an adjoining table whatever they ordered was not available either. Seems best for beer and wine. Pleasant location.
Outstanding dining experience! Highly recommended!!
We went before a show and had a very relaxing meal. The food was excellent!
Our server was Trisha and she was wonderful!!
That was our second time there and we are looking for a reason to go back again soon!!
We thoroughly enjoyed the food, but the service was rushed, even though there was plenty of time before the concert and clearly no need to clear the table for more guests.
Chicken came in two pieces, one undercooked, the other overcooked. The peas were definitely uncooked.
Waiter had no idea as to from which side a diner should be served, also with identical dishes served me first and then my wife.
Seemed like we were in a college bar where no one knew what they were doing.
Food was good. Very convenient for Ravinia, obviously. However service was atrocious. Had to ask for bread (twice0 which others got automatically. Ordered appetizers which should have taken no longer than 10 minutes (soup and beet salad) which weren't served in 25 minutes. Asked and got no immediate response. Entrees came, so cancelled appetizers. Food was good. Burger cooked as ordered. Management came 3 times, no real reason for delays or waiter's lack of attention. Did appear short staffed, but salad was still not ready when entrees came. Management did comp meal without direct request. Left tip for waiter because hate to see income loss. Although he was clearly not well-trained, or else ininterested.
Service staff was unorganized. Better training required.
