Paprika brings a refreshing cuisine to the Mission District of San Francisco with the addition of classic Eastern European cuisine, with Hungarian, German and Czech influences. Paprika is an important spice in Eastern European cooking so expect to see it in many of the menu options. Popular choices are the paprika goulash with pork and gnocchi and the various authentic sausages. The dishes are presented beautifully as well as tasting marvelous.
Paprika boasts a simple, uncomplicated dinner menu as well as German and Czech beers chosen to complement the cuisine. There are also some wine options from Hungary, Germany & Austria. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing with friendly and attentive service. Paprika has been recommended by the Michelin Guide for San Francisco dining for 2016 and again in 2017.
Very good food and even better service. One of the best restaurants sins a long time. Thank you very much.
Nice restaurant, friendly staff. Amazing food! Will come back :)
Loved it! Food was delicious and so reasonably priced. Cute and cozy ambiance with outstandingly kind service. The owner commented on having a small menu because of a small kitchen, but honestly, the offerings are perfect and so well done -- quality over quantity, right? The cheesecake was the most delicious fluffy thing on the planet. Such a lovely experience and highly recommend.
Food is fantastic and authentically Central European. Happy hour gives you some appetizers with your beer, including a kielbasa. Service is great, and the two owners are there and will chat with you if they have time.
Delicious Eastern European style food. Anything you pick is great!! The beer selection is great too. Love the chocolate cake for dessert.
Great food! Small and casual, but super friendly. We had a couple goulashes - pork with gnocchi and the pork with sauerkraut. Both were good and we needed like 3 baskets of bread to sop up all the sauce!
Excellent choice for delicious food in a comfortable and warm setting. Highly recommended.
At first blush, this looks like a hole in the wall, small, kinda dark restaurant on a busy street. But the food is so darn good. I've been there twice for dinner, with different family members. On my last visit, our waiter recommended one of the sausage small plates, which was great. And for the 2nd time I ordered the Chicken Paprika which is just wonderful - the very tender dark-meat chicken in the paprika sauce (lots of it) with smooth mashed potatoes. I'm not much of a bread eater, but you really have to sop up all the tasty sauce with bread. Overall, I'd describe it as delicious comfort food.
I just wish they were open for lunch every day, rather than just Saturday.
Very nice experience all together- menu could be more robust- what they did have was delicious
Great food, even vegetarians can find something to their liking. Any type of goulash is a great choice and the apple strudel is delicious. They have beer and wine only, selection could be a little better but otherwise much recommended.
Very nice to find central European food of this quality and at this price. Simple dining room, so not a very extravagant environment. Very attentive wait staff. Great beer and wine choices.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF.
No parties of shouting douchebags, just wonderful food in a pleasant atmosphere where you can have a normal conversation.
The service is attentive but not intrusive, the prices fair. My only minor complaint: it would be nice if there was a larger menu with more variety, but I imagine this may happen with time.
Always a wonderful experience at Paprika.
Delicious, flavorful Central European goulash, sausages, and beers and wines, beautifully presented. Try the sausage starter with either Hungarian sweet or German spicy sausage, and then savor the Szeged goulash. Finish the meal with homemade apple strudel. You won't regret it. The ambiance is very positive: lively but not noisy; tables are well spaced; and service is prompt and friendly.
This was our third time at Paprika. While the menu is limited, so far everything we've ordered off it is excellent. We particularly like the varied sausages (Hungarian Sweet seems to be the favorite) and the pork goulash. Probably not the best place if you're on a diet, but for authentic eastern European food, this is the place. Service is friendly an attentive without being bothersome.
Very cozy atmosphere, great service and delicious food! The sausages and gnocchi dishes with sauerkraut are tasty and large portions.
I stop by with kids for dinner. Very Unique and happy place.
I would recommend to my friends to try it.
The food was excellent as was the service. Both the chef and his partner assisted with my gluten free needs and dairy intolerances and created dishes for me to eat. The split pea soup was the best I've ever had! The sausages were delicious and the whole meal was very memorable from the flavors to the plating. We have already recommended this place to several friends and family. We will be going back again!
Attentive service and great food. Accessible to Bart.
Doesn’t disappoint. Food and service are good, you can have a conversation and see each other. My husband I love this place.
This was my second time at the restaurant and both times I have really enjoyed it. Authentic tasty Hungarian food paired with excellent beers in a cozy atmosphere.
We really enjoyed our time at paprika. The food was authentic and very good and the service was warm and friendly.
Nice neighborhood restaurant. The apple streudel was some of the best I have ever had. Real whipped cream as well, and not too sweet. I will go back.
Great food, great customer service and very reasonable pricing. We really enjoyed our meal and the experience!
Excellent service, very good food. We really appreciated the server's friendly demeanor and help in selecting a good wine.
Good food but really small portions. The location is in a questionable neighborhood in a refurbished (sort of) old home. Not much atmosphere.
Paprika is conveniently located about a block from 24th ST BART. Food & service never disappoint. Always a pleasure :)
The Paprika goulash is absolutely delicious and so were the sausages. The service is friendly. We were there with our toddler and she was well taken care of. Can’t recommend this place enough
Loved the chicken paprikash and the pork goulash!!! Not exact what I had when I was in Budapest, but still delicious, and the service was excellent!!
Great comfort food, perfect after long week!
We loved Paprika. And this restaurant will only get better. The authentic Hungarian dishes were very good. The chicken paprikash was delicious, and the portion was good. The authentic pork goulash was good, too. But the salads need more originality. The split pea soup was excellent. Everything is homemade. We liked the presentation of the pork sausage appetizer. The European red wine was great. And the apple strudel was good, but it would have been better with ice cream. I think the menu should be a little bigger with a few more choices. How about a grilled fish? How about a Veal dish? But overall, this is a great restaurant, simple ambiance, but very good food. And the prices are great!
Food was excellent!
What a gem! Very comforting food. And nice beers. Definitely will become a neighbor standard for me!
I've bookmarked this place a while ago and had the chance to go this time. Service was amazing and she kept pouring my wine! The food reminded me
of my grandparents cooking and was beyond amazing! If you like Hungarian or have never had it, you owe it to yourself to try this place!
This rustic restaurant is a welcome addition to the San Francisco food scene. It has been a long since the city has had an authentic Hungarian restaurant. Food is good. The Apple strudel is in-house made and is good for those who don't like an overly sweet dessert.
Love this place
Great place! Must try!
This was our 2nd time at this neighborhood gem within the last few weeks. What an unexpected discovery! The food is excellent, the service friendly, and the ambiance like a small cafe in Eastern Europe. My husband had the chicken papikish, which he ordered because he tasted mine last time. I had 2 gourmet sausages served with fresh mashed potatoes and luscious brown gravy, sauerkraut and spicy mustard on the side. Every bite was full of flavor. Even though we were pretty full from the generous portions on the entree, we had to split the owner’s home baked apple strudel with whipped cream, which we loved on our first visit too. Yum! We’re lucky to be in walking distance to this place since now we’re going to regulars.
super cute little restaurant with great food, service and beer. We split the goulash and parikash, both which were very tasty.
Tasty Hungarian food, not easy to find (even in Hungary), but let's call this a Central European restaurant as there are German and Czech items. Beer list is not as interesting as I expected. Wonderful service. Our party spent too much time talking instead of looking at the menu or leaving, but the staff never gave even a hint of hurry-up. As with everything in San Francisco, it seems overpriced.
New to the Bay Area and was specifically looking for Central European food. We found quite a little gem in Paprika. We ordered the sausage appetizer and then the goulash and the chicken paprika. All of the dishes were delicious. Our service was wonderful. Additionally we enjoyed our wine and beer. Definitely worth the trip for excellent food and service. Looking forward to returning to Paprika.
