Pappardella Ratings and Reviews
Excellent authentic Italian food in a quiet laid back atmosphere for adults. Food was great from appetizer to desert. Even the bread with outstanding olive oil was terrific. Friendly prompt service but not at all rushed. Even the background music, classic standards, was just the right volume and genre for adults that don't want the thump, thump of today's excuse for music.
Lovely, large space, friendly service, excellent food; ample portions. You can come here and actually engage in a conversation with your dining companion. It is clearly a neighborhood place and doesn't aspire to be anything else. That is a positive in one sense, but the negative side of the coin is that means family and kid friendly. I was there for a 7:00 reservation on a Thursday night and there were some rambunctious children with proud UWS parents who would, one presumes, not countenance a word of criticism about their children's behavior. I would still recommend Pappardella and advise one to hope for the best.
PAPPARDELLA has been an UWS gem for as far back as I can remember. Longevity is rare in the restaurant business and almost unheard off on Columbus Avenue. The reason--great food with innovative touches that keeps customers coming back. From the pizza to the incredible pastas--love the funghi past dish to chicken parm, always delicious. The wait staff is extraordinary too. With a warm and cozy atmosphere, you can't go wrong.
Went for christmas lunch with my daughter. Split the rigatoni bolognese as an appetizer, very good. Nice portions on separate plates. My rack of lamb was cooked perfectly, medium rare. They messed up my daughters order and brought the wrong entre. That had to be returned and the waitress appologizedWe worked on my lamb while they made her hanger steak which she originally ordered. By the time that came we were both somewhat full so she and I had some of it, this was cooked as ordered, and ended up bringing most home. Sides of polenta and brussel sprouts pretty good.Decent bottle of chianti with our meal. We skipped desert but had a 10yr port each...delicious. Service was good, we were not rushed at all and we were there 2.5 hours. Bathrooms very clean, always good to see. Kind of noisy but that was not a surprise as the place was packed by the time our entrees came. Glad we had reservations. Plenty of items on the menu that made our dinner order a tough decision. The prices are fair and we were all in with tip, $200. A meal can be enjoyed here for a lot less . I will return to try other pasta dishes, maybe the pizza.
The food and experience was really quite excellent. Everything we ate was delicious. Our problem, was how were treated because we were not regulars. We were sat at a four top squished in the middle of the restaurant, and I had asked the host if we can sit in an empty four top just to the side. He went to "check" the reservations and told me we could not have the table, because he had a table of three coming in, even though both tables were four tops. I told him that, I thought that was strange as the tables were the same size and left it alone. We ordered a full bottle of wine and an appetizer (delicious pesto burrata), and then our main courses which were also delicious pasta dishes. The main course came out about three minutes after the appetizer and before we were even were half a glass into our bottle of wine. Then about an hour into our meal, the table which i requested was finally seated, with just two people.. Just like my date and I. My date who had read reviews told me she was aware they favor regulars here. I would have preferred getting that answer from the host, rather than being lied to. So while the food was absolutely excellent, on principal, I cannot go back again, because as a customer i refused to be outright lied to, to my face, and then rushed through my meal when we have ordered a bottle of wine. It's a shame to as we live about two blocks away and would surely have been back again had we been treated like valued customers.
We went for the gluten free menu. There are many gf choices. The food was good. Appetizers and dessert were very good. Delicious salads.
Staff charged a different bill on my card but did tell me about it and gave me the refund receipt for that order. Nicely decorated for the holidays.
The decor was cozy, the staff were friendly and welcoming. Loved our waiter. He was excellent. We used open door for a reservation and was seated right way. Everyone loved their meals. My husband especially loved the lamb chops. They were cooked to perfection and simply delicious. He said he would eat the bone if he could. Great find!
Pappardella is a very nice, neighborhood place. Even though the restaurant was packed when we arrived, and we had to wait a bit to be seated even with a reservation, the service was surprisingly attentive. The menu has a good amount of variety, and food was fresh, well-prepared and flavorful and was delivered with just the right amount of pacing. The wine menu has some nice selections and was fairly priced, as was the food. For anyone attending a show at the Beacon or otherwise visiting this neighborhood, including those with kids, Pappardella is an excellent dining option.
