Paper Daisy - Halcyon Cabarita Beach
With one of Australia’s most exciting young chefs Ben Devlin (Queensland’s Chef of Year 2014, ex-Noma and Esquire) leading the kitchen, the ethos that drives the restaurant is one of sophisticated simplicity, producing dishes that are satisfying, thoughtful and deeply memorable.
We had a lovely, relaxing family lunch here. Such a lovely light and airy space. Fresh, high quality and very tasty menu. Their sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful too.
We had a wonderful lunch at Paper Daisy celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. Our waitress recommend a number of beautiful dishes and we were not disappointed. The food, wine, staff and atmosphere was wonderful and I hope we will be back for another celebration.
A disappointing visit to Paper Daisy. Despite the fact that there were very few tables occupied, service was slow and patchy. Our waitress was lovely and very friendly, but just not around very much. Food was very slow to arrive.
My husband’s lamb was grissley and 25% was inedible. Not what we expected from a restaurant of this standard.
We loved the food etc and our waiter was great. However the gentleman we first had contact with wasn’t. He couldn’t find our name in the system and when we sorted out the booking name he told us to just sit where we were. I had to go up and get someone else to seat us at the table. He was distracted and dis interested. All other staff were lovely.
Very awkward waiter. We arrived on time for our reservation and he made us awkwardly sit outside even though our table was free. Other waiters also kept asking us the same question (I.e would you like another drink when we had just ordered one) which showed poor communication among them. We were disappointed to be seated right at the back of the restaurant near the busy kitchen with poor lighting. Was expecting more from Paper Daisy unfortunately.
Really bad food ordered 7 dishes and all of them where below average. Would not eat here again.
Our only collective comment is that the time between our first & second course was too too long
What a wonderful dinner. Dinner dessert drinks fabulous. Can’t wait to visit again.
Loved it.. Great location, service and of course 'The food'.
Don't forget to try the Gin cocktails.
Our evening at Paper Daisy was first class. The food, service and ambience was faultless. Can’t wait to return next time we are up from Melbourne
A lovely location and attentive, friendly staff. The meal was a little disappointing and not consistent. Some dishes were a hit and others not so great. Prices are fairly high and perhaps are expectations were a bit high. I would put the meal in the good not great category.
Really impressed with fresh produce and the way it was all put together. Staff lovely. Will highly recommend.
We are from the Gold Coast and just needed a break away from life that right now is stressful for my wife. So 40 mins from home we were there and immediately the stress levels dissolved. We had a table for 2 outside facing the pool and the beach. Superb meal with new tastes and experiences, Great wine selection of wine by the bottle or in my case by the glass to match each course. This is our second time and will be back soon with guests from VIC. Thanks to all the staff but especially the wait staff, they make you feel special but are there for advice. Nothing was a problem. See you soon.
Yesterday's lunch with a friend was my second visit in a week. I couldn't resist the 35min drive up to such a sublime setting serving such serious food!
Ive been meaning to go there since it opened but time and memory never seemed to line up.
On both occasions, it was an absolute delight to be served the freshest and most interesting ingredients, so thoughtfully assembled and juxtaposed with each other...pure harmony for both the eyes and the tastebuds.
The woman who cared for us was relaxed but professional, knowledgable and seemed like she enjoyed her job.
There is no where else within the northern rivers/gold coast/brisbane that I would prefer to eat for a slightly or very special occasion. We'll be back - despite the music! :)
PS My only tiny thumbs down was for the nondescript "nouvelle vague" style music played. Surely you could get a consultant to put together a soundtrack that equals the food, by playing real musicians at the top of the their game - can still be super laid back and comfortable. Good music enhances conversation and interactions by enlivening memories and senses. Going for the (not much talent) schmaltz in an effort to appease most of the people most of the time, shows a bit of laziness in not making sure the whole experience is matchless.
Unbelievably good food! The best place to eat on the Turquoise Coast
The sommelier was extremely passionate and intelligent and made the entire night! We loved his information and background he gave us on all the wine pairings and able to answer all questions and if we had questions about the food he would go ask the chefs and come back and tell us. Excellent service and the food was beautiful too.
We had a lovely experience here at halcyon house. This was our second time this time under the new chef - and we just found that it wasn’t the same quality of food. The day we were there the service was very slow taking an hour between coffee and starter. It was a little disappointing after we loved it previously.
We had very high hopes for this place after reading all the reviews but ending up leaving a little disappointed. The service seemed a little scattered and inconsistent. We opted in for the degustation, time between meals was very slow and didnt feel like it was worth the cost. I can only think we went on an off night and there may have been issues behind the scenes. Most likely won't return.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing food and a great wine list. Ambience and service were also five stars. We'll definitely be back.
Absolutely sensational. No wonder it's a hatted restaurant. Not cheap but well worth a visit.congrats to the chefs and staff,.
Open Table only showed a 2.15pm availability on the day we wanted to go so i booked it as a late lunch. When we arrived the restaurant was empty and they had no record of our booking. As the only two people in the restaurant we could sit anywhere we wanted, I’m not sure why we we bothered. While the venue is beautifully decorated it was not worth the visit. The food was disappointing and the vibe felt cold and pretentious. Lovely design but location and staff lacked warmth.
The food and staff is off the chart wonderful. Especially Linden the wine somm who is beyond incredible with his knowledge and regions of Australian wines. Had some awesome wines that I can’t wait to hunt for back in the states!!
Lovely setting and comfortable bar area.
Seating for two at dinner was a little too close to next tables. Therefore noisy.
Waited 45 minutes for mains after small shared entree. As our booking was the 8.30 sitting, this was rather late.
Cost was expensive, but expected for a hatted restaurant.
Best breakfast I’ve had in years, absolutely great value and a dining experience by the sea not to forget! I’ll be back
My wife had the grilled fish (very good) - I had Macaroni and King Prawns as a main ($39) which was very disappointing for the price (macaroni was tough - prawns comprised small chopped up pieces of prawn, no king prawns and the meal was served lukewarm).
We were disappointed as we had booked from Brisbane in preference to other good restaurants in the area having been to Paper Daisies in the past and found it great.
Great service, amazing food
Not bad but not great either. Meals were very heavily salted. Staff were pleasant but not particularly engaged or professional. The decor feels a little dated
Fantastic service and unbelievable food!
We had a really interesting and impressive meal there about a year ago. We wanted our friends to experience it, but our meal last Friday was underwhelming and we were all disappointed. The combination of flavors not nearly as interesting or unusual as the first time. We won’t dine there again - it’s too expensive to be disappointed!
Excellent food, service and experience. Highly recommended for that very special occasion.
Food was very ordinary - tasteless spanner crab, uncooked pasta, uncooked potatoes. Very small servings for price
Food quality has definitely slipped a bit since last time we went
The whole Halcyon House experience was incredible!
I would highly highly recommend anyone to stay here and go to Paper Daisy!
Incredible, the chefs are probably some of the best in the world xx
great experience - loved it and was unexpected as we didnt plan the trip ahead
Very quiet at Monday lunch. Would be a problem in some venues but not here with the sun and the sea and the simply sensational waitress with the stunning smile and the sultry voice.
Thanks for the amazing service, cocktails and food were to die for! Totally worth the $$
The restaurant decor was spectacular and the we received good service but the food was incredibly disappointing. The menu looked exciting but was completely tasteless. The price tag did not justify the experience.
Mate, just up there with some of my best feeds. I can tell you I am very picky
While the service and ambience was perfect, the food was very bad. I had the pork. The flavoured The I Divya pieces and the combined effect was bad. Even though I was very hungry, I could not eat it all and gave it to my unfussy companion. I’d heard great things about the food but obviously that was with the previous chef. To pay $44 for a plate that was actually gross was such a disappointment. I’d go back for a drink only. Or some bread. The bread was good.
Lazy Sunday birthday lunch - perfect setting, great food, lovely staff and relaxed but still luxurious atmosphere!
