I have dined at Panevino many times and have always enjoyed the food. The presentation and service were excellent. The menu variety provided several choices. This restaurant has evolved to a more upscale experience and may be more than the neighborhood will support. Perhaps because it was a beautiful June Saturday evening, the restaurant was noticeably empty compared to prior visits. That is unfortunate because my party truly enjoyed our meal.
The food was not very good. Lamb chops were tough, soft shell crabs heavily breaded and served with tomatoes and bread. Soft shells were a special and a dessert was not included.
That was pretty cheap. Would think twice before returning.
I had perhaps the best salmon I've ever had. It was part of a three-course $20 special; the price was an excellent value. The salad and cheesecake was also very good.
We came to reading for a show and booked the best we could find on line near the venue. Well...the choice we made was awful.
The starter was terrible (Foie Grass), no taste at all. The on the house Pita Bites ordinary. The main courses, Rack of Lamb tasted like plastic and Pasta with meat tasted like nothing with rubber on a soggy overcooked noodle.
Just do not go there. Bring your own sandwich from home. The ambience is like in the 70s, the music too.
Quite expensive too, and that in Reading, the middle of nowhere.
Our hint....make a different choice.
I made a reservation for 6pm and the movie ran late but they still kept our reservations👍🏼
Although the space was nice and the service attentive, the low quality of the food and its preparation left the biggest impression.
The complimentary pita wedges with pesto were very limp, the crab and clam chowder was very watery and included no discernible crab or clams, the tilapia was inedible (my colleague said it looked exactly like the fish sold at Costco), my salmon was totally tasteless, and my other guest ate only 1 forkful of the eggplant parm before pushing it aside.
The only consolation was the low cost of the 3-course prix fix dinner - about $20. Another proof of the truism "you get what you pay for".
Unfortunately, this consolation is inadequate in many situations, especially when you host out-of-town guests who know and expect a good meal.
Great Mother's Day experience. Loved that they had specials but still had the 3 courses for $19.99 menu. Service, food, drinks and atmosphere were all great.
My only suggestion is that where sugar is used in cooking it should be noted. I ordered the salmon with mustard sauce and was surprised that it was sweet - not my favorite. As I recall it did not say "honey-mustard". Other than that all was fine.
The 3 course entree , salmon, not only was a fantastic value, but also delicious and well proportioned. Panevino's is located in a convenient location with accessible free parking and theaters.
We recently had dinner at Panevino prior to a Sunday night concert that was part of the Berks Jazz Fest. When we found out that our go-to restaurant downtown was closed on Sundays, we had to do some last minute scrambling to make a reservation. Our initial disappointment of not dining at our usual spot was forgotten from the moment we were greeted warmly at the door. The wait staff was experienced, friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. All of our entrees were expertly prepared, delicious and generous. Our resident "guru of osso buco" claimed that his entrée was the best he has ever had. Needless to say, our previous favorite in town's loss is Panevino's gain. We have a new go-to restaurant in Reading and are looking forward to our next visit. Eccezionale!
The lobster ravioli was simply amazing!! By far the best I have ever had and I do quite a bit of traveling.
First time there for a meal, and before the Jazz Fest concert at nearby Miller Center. Loved the food and place.
Energy was through the roof. Will be back and plan to relax and enjoy the experience!
Our food was not all served at the same time and even then some were not very hot. Also, we had to make several wine choices as they were out of stock on the first 3.
Nice place to eat after a movie. Good food, great service!
We always like Panevino for the food and atmosphere. this time I took my daughter and her husband there for their first time and they liked it too
Such a great Italian restaurant tucked in the heart of Reading. The homemade pasta is divine and their wine list is outstanding-something for every palette. We couldn't recommend it enough. My husband had a shrimp dish that was divine and I seriously can't get the dover sole out of my mind. Absolutely recommend this to everyone!
Our table was split with the Prime Rib and the Salmon three course specials. The men were very happy that the beef came out as the ordered, rare and medium rare. The salmon was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. There was plenty on the plates and we came out stuffed! Will highly recommend this restaurant.
The service and menu are well worth a visit. Specials offered are a great deal. It was clean, beautiful décor and the attention to detail was great. It was full but every thing was great!!!!
Veal Marsala was tasty. Creme Brûlée was delicious.
Food was fantastic. We were shocked that the restaurant was virtually empty.
I took my wife to see Hall & Oates and decided to have dinner here. We made reservations for 615 and arrived 20 minutes early so we decided to have a drink at the bar. After our drinks we went to be seated and was told we could not sit in the restaurant area because of a private event but the restaurant was completely empty so they sat us back in the bar area which is totally unacceptable. We waited 1 hr for our entrees to arrive after our salads were finished and when my Chicken Marsala arrived the chicken was hard and tasted like it was under a heat lamp for days. My wife's entree( Pasta)was not much better it was egg noodles instead of Pasta and was mush. We ask to speak with the owner who is the chef but he never came to the table instead we had the manager who came to the table and was somewhat helpful but started to question me that we didn't wait that long for our dinner. Are u kidding! Should of not given this place a shot after reading reviews online.....Stay away!
My Girlfriend and I were there on Valentines day (2016) . The waiter was overbooked and did an okay job considering. Menu choices were limited for valentines day and there were no Italian classics like parmesan or pastas, e.g. lasagna, etc. weird for Italian cuisine. We both ordered Salmon. The Salmon was delicious. All the food, corn-crab soup and creme brulee, was wonderful. The problem I had was the chairs and tables were small and uncomfortable and the tables are on top of each other. There's no leg room so your feet are tucked under your chair the entire time. The guest at the other table was piratically on top of our table. The wine list only had bottle prices, no glass, you have no idea what wines are available by the glass. There was no beverage list whatsoever other than the bottled wine. I had to ask the waiter if they even had beer, soda or even win by the glass. Like I said, food was wonderful but dining was very uncomfortable. Don't think I will return.
The only thing that made me a little upset was the portions for the Valentine's Day dinner were small. Like two lobster ravioli small. But the food is just so good I over looked the tiny portions.
I was unfortunately disappointed with our experience on Valentine's Day. As soon as we walked in it felt like chaos trying to have our coats checked and be seated.
Our server didn't even greet us when we were seated, and it felt like he did not want to be bothered during our dinner.
The lobster ravioli was delicious, however the portion sizes were incredibly small and we walked away very hungry.
I also love creme brûlée, and we were both very disappointed.
We did however feel that the ambiance suited the holiday. We were impressed with the vibe that was trying to be put forth.
We were both looking very forward to a nice dinner at some place new, but we both agreed we will not be back.
From the moment we walked in, there was mass confusion. They couldn't find anyone's coat in the coat check, and customers, both coming and leaving, were piling up. The dining room is crowded, and traffic flow for staff is congested. Servers kept walking into each other. Service was very friendly, but incredibly slow. They ran out of menus and were constantly taking from one table to give to another. Food was acceptable, but even after the long wait, it came out cold.
With all of the exceptional food choices coming to Reading, they will need to step it up to keep business.
I made reservations on open table for Valentine's Day with my wife and it was nice to just walk in and get a table right away. The service was awesome and the food was incredible. The people that work there were friendly they make you really feel relaxed. Our server was awesome he even took a picture for us and it was just the perfect atmosphere. The night was absolutely amazing thank you for making it the perect night for us. This isn't the first time we were her to eat and it won't be the last.
I feel the menu could be expanded a bit. More pastas, more Italian traditional foods. Our waiter was nice but he had alot of tables and we believe he shouldn't have been spread so thin. But it is a nice place.
I was there on a very busy Saturday evening. Although the Lobster Ravioli was amazing, it was not very hot, it was warm. My partner had the NY steak and it was way overdone despite being asked for med rare. It was well done and had no flavor. That was disappointing. I had heard such great things about this restaurant and I will give it another try. My one recommendation would be that they not let the food sit with covers on it because it becomes cold quickly sitting on tray stands in the dining room.
My hubby took me to Panevino for our Valentine's dinner and we made reservations early which was great because it started really getting packed when we were done. Food was out of this world awesome!
I got to the restaurant the day before we went there,It was the day before Valentines, and I brought some flowers to be delivered to my wife during our meal. The diner went on and no flowers. So I casually asked the one young lady about them and she said they didn't know who they belonged to. Then I told her just to bring them out with our dessert and she said ok. Then the dessert came out but still no flowers. Then when we got done with our full dinner, my wife went to the rest room and the girl said should we bring them out now?
I told the woman at the greeting desk my name and what time my reservations were for the day before, and she said that would make a note of it but obviously that didn't happen.
My wife enjoyed the flowers but it didn't turn out like I planned .
Good food, reasonably priced, convenient to Santander arena and theater. Free parking is a nice bonus.
We were recommended to this place , by a friend when I asked for a Romantic Restaurant. I was not disappointed. My husband and I went for an early Valentines date. It was very cold out, so a nice touch was , they took out coats and cked them in.. We were looking for something reasonably priced, and both got the 3 course meal for around 20.00. Came with a soup or salad , entree and a dessert.. The atmosphere was very nice! We do not drink wine, so i do not know about their selections. Our Waitress did a good job. Parking is in the overhead garage. Thanks for helping make our night out special! I already recommended you to someone else!
It was excellent night filled with excellent food served in a tasteful manner . Highly recommend this fine establishment for fine dining and healthy eating , in a romantic setting. I will be back .
This was our fifth visit to Panevino, and as always had a great meal. Service has improved over the past two years, perhaps because the menu has a few less choices than in the past. Food was served very hot with nice plating. Their specialty is Italian with an American flair. Our chicken Marsala, was served with a mashed potato rather than pasta--a pairing I had never seen before but worked very well. The green beans may have been slightly undercooked; they hadn't quite hit "al dente." But that was the only criticism I had. The house wine was very good, and a good value. Make sure to try the desserts--the mini cannoli were superb (not too sweet). Definitely a good find for downtown Reading.
Everything was delicious. Our server was great. We came for my mom's birthday and they made it special for her. It was a great night.
Nice restaurant. Food was actually pretty disappointing- nothing special. Too much mayonnaise in the Caesar salad dressing.
Complete disorganized chaos. Totally under staffed. Extremely unprofessional staff. No one had a clue what they were doing in this place. No hostess, no coat check, no greeting, couldn't get in the door because about 50 people were waiting to be seated, but no one to direct them to their seats. Asked two people for menus, 30 minutes later we finally got menus. Over an hour until we were able to order. No refills on our drinks. No tables were wiped down, they just pushed the crumbs on the floor and shook off the place mats. Silverware was duty. The food isn't anything to rave about. Save your money and go elsewhere.
All around good meal, service was attentive, priced reasonably, never had a bad meal.
Calamari was overly-seasoned and was sent back. Rest of meal was OK, though not quite as good as last visit 3 months ago. Wine list should include more/better selections by the glass. Service was good. Convenient parking and convenient to IMAX Theatre.
This is the first time that we have gone to Panevino's but it will not be the last. All of our meals were excellent and the service was very good. Prices were on the higher side, but not exorbitant. Nice spot for special occasions.
