By far the best Ukrainian restaurant I’ve ever been to (not that the selection is huge) but the food is genuinely amazing.
Very friendly service and plenty of tasty food. Would recommend to all. The restaurant is currently hosted in a pub so was a bit too noisy. Once they have their own premises, it'll be a real gem of a restaurant.
Authentic food. Better price than a lot of Russian restaurants in London, and there aren't many Ukranian ones to compare with. I will be interested to try it again if it moves to its own premesis.
I had a good experience at Pampushka, the food is delicious and I loved that for golubtsi they completely removed the meat and made it a veggie version. Someone who is a vegetarian or vegan will find something for themselves. Only thing that was disappointing was portion size, they were tiny! Golubtsi for the main were served in a tiny clay bowl. Also the dumplings (varenyky) were super small! Kid’s size portions I’d say. I would expect Ukrainian food portions to be more generous.
Overall the pop up location in The Sun & 13 Cantons pub is working quite well, the noise is coming from the pub but it wasn’t overwhelming and I could still hold a conversation.
Just returned from the dinner for 5 people and I just had to share this experience because of controversial comments here:
- Place: yes, at the moment of this review resturant shared a place with a quite busy pub, you need to know that.. 4 stars because of that.
- Food: I was disappointed to hear that we will be served not a traditional food but a mix of UKR/UK interpretation.. but eventually even our Ukrainian gang couldn't agree on what was tasty and what was not - it is individual thing. We have tried almost everything and it is 5 stars.
- Stuff: I'm not sure if it is even legal to be that nice and lovely as they were. 10 out of 5. Fast, friendly, hospitable and patient. The owner (stupid me didn't even ask her name..) treated us as if we were guests at her home.. almost a quote of how my friend expressed her impression about the service
- Price: I really don't understand how someone can say that it is overpriced.. are those people dinning in this area? I was not surprised by the bill and I would leave 5 for the value.
Conclusion: very nice place to visit which I would strongly recommend - interesting decisions on how they tried to experiment with Ukrainian trad food to make it more suitable for British people.. I didn't like only 1 thing out of almost everything (will tell in P.S.). The passion of the owner for what she and her husband (Maks) are doing is literally visible in this place since it is expressed through one of the most loveliest service I've ever experienced so far. I wish them to find a nice long term place and don't give up on what they are doing.
PS. Blood sausage vareniki tasted like medicine to me (my friend ate them all.. so it is just my taste). I would suggest to think about fried or oven baked blood sausage because boiling the blood (unlike frying) doesn't give a proper fermentation for this dish.. blood itself becomes tasteless and apple doesn't do much to cover that.. just an Imho
Food was simpl
Thank you Yell for your review however please feel free to drop us an email if you would like to give us more in depth feedback. Many thanks, Elisha
Food was lacking in flavour and not exactly overly generous in size. Very noisy, with loud music from the pub. The major issue for me was that when I asked for tea or coffee, I was told that they had no milk! I won't be returning.
Dear Jane/Hilary, we're sorry you didn't enjoy your experience, sadly had you voiced your feedback at the time we would have been able to address it however when I asked you, you said the food was very nice. I made you a complimentary cup of tea and whilst we had unfortunately run out of milk, I did offer you several alternatives and you excepted the genuine apology at the time. With best wishes, Elisha
Overpriced and not real Ukrainian. Very noisy and people from pub always pass by tables to go to the toilet.
Dear Almaz, thank you for your review. As stated on our website we are a Ukrainian/British fusion and so some of the dishes have a British twist to them. We are a popup inside of the pub so there will naturally be some noise and unfortunately we have no control over the location of the toilets. Thanks again for your feedback.
Fusion of Ukrainian food for the British palate. Nice to see the chef come out with each dish. Pub a little noisy but service made up for this distraction.
Great, authentic Ukrainian food. The atmosphere is very cozy and the service quick
Good place. Happy that they've opened. Would definitely come back.
Interesting to try Ukrainian food.
Wonderful Eastern European comfort food, with generous portions and friendly service. Better to sit at the back as the front is open to the pub which is a bit noisy. The borscht is fantastic and served with horseradish vodka.
