Great food and service
The food here is simply outstanding! I have eaten in Mexico’s top restaurants over the past 30 years, and Pampano compares nicely. I try to order something new each time I dine there, and this time it was the shrimp tacos and the carnitas special. Both were standouts. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
Good food, attentive service, but it’s a shame they ditched the tablecloths. Now it feels just ordinary.
Always wonderful! Very special place for a very special evening. Terrace was fabulous!
Absolutely delicious. Try the paella and the coconut shrimp. Several great gluten free options. You won’t be disappointed! My favorite NYC restaurant!
I've been to Pampano several times and they used to be much better. The guacamole used to be made at your table, and this time, they bought it out pre-made. The food was not as good as before, but still decent.
Pampano has a great atmosphere and excellent service. The plates are presented beautifully and the server was great at timing the meal. The issue we had was that the price point was not reflected in the quality of the flavors of the meal. Based on the taste of the food I feel like we overpaid for our meal. I think the atmosphere is great and the restaurant staff is excellent. A bit more time may need to be put into the seasonings of the food. We started with the guacamole (medium heat) and it was very delicious with what seemed like homemade tortilla chips. I got the black bean soup. It was okay, but not unlike other black bean soups I’ve had before. My husband ordered the “Filete Pompano” and he says the steak was cooked perfectly on the inside, but the outside tasted like burnt grill. The risotto that came with his was the best part of the meal, but the sauce was comparable to a spicy creamy ketchup. We think the food could be improved upon, especially considering we did order one of the most expensive plates the restaurant offered.
Excellent all around. Would definitely dine again.
Booked this to celebrate mine and my dads birthdays and have heard great things so we were very excited.
Unfortunately, the was horrendously slow and we had multiple waiters and bus boys who didn’t seem to communicate and took forever to bring us food, drinks and the check. And our reservation was 6:30pm on a Tuesday so it’s not like the place was packed.
Food was okay, I ordered the tuna and it was really dry and over cooked. Guacamole was good. Waiter made up for it by putting candles in the desserts and gave us a complimentary after dinner drink which was nice.
Glad I experienced but not sure if I’d go again.
Pampano never disappoints. Was able to eat outside and it was terrific. Tacos are some of the best in town and dessert just rocks it!
I used to frequent Pampano very often until moving biz and home location. Well back to the neighborhood and we were thrilled to return. Same great food and beverages with great outdoor space. The only thing less than par from the old days was the service. With a light crowd, it wasn’t from being over worked and understaffed. That said, when we were attended to, each staffer was very cordial and accommodating. They just have to be more aware of the time spent away from the table.
Amazing ceviche, beautiful atmosphere.
I recommended Pampano for a biz dinner and told everyone about the lobster tacos (which I get any time I travel to NY) and the corn and dumpling soup to learn that the new chef took both off the menu. What a shocker! Any time I have suggested clients go there this is what they get so I would think that would be a big disappointment for many customers.
I’ve been a huge fan of this restaurant but this time I was not impressed with the menu changes. The soup and lobster tacos were something I’ve never seen on other menus which was a big reason I went to Pompano in the past.
I hope the restaurant will reconsider. Why fix something if it isn’t broken? Make menu changes but don’t take off the items many loyal customers loved and differentiated you from the other million places to eat in NY.
All That said, our waiter was wonderful and apologetic about our disappointment.
Place was below par when compared to a year ago. It was a hot night and the door to the patio was left open. We had to ask them to shut it so that the A/C could do its job. The guacamole portion was half the size we enjoyed in the past. The wine selection was weak and after tasting 3 different whites which were not good we decided on beer. The service was extremely slow and we were told it was because there was a big table needing attention. We shouldn't be penalized for that, rather they needed more waitstaff. The entrees arrived and we were surprised at how small the striped bass portion was, compared to the past. In short, we always look forward to eating at Pampano but based on our experience last week we will not be back.
I just love this place. I had the striped bass and my friends had he octopu and taco platter. All amazing. Skip the overpriced guacomole - they push it on you - just say no. Go for ceviche instead
I have been to Pampano over the years and usually dine there at least 2 times a year. The food is always good but we were completely shocked at the extremely poor level of service. Our server could not remember anything we ordered, they were trying to take away our appetizers before we even finished without even asking us if we were finished. Honestly the most shockingly bad service I have had which is unfortunate as I have enjoyed the food.
Food was great. I had the sea bass and my friend had the salmon. Both were delicious. Our waiter, Arturo and the rest of the staff were very attentive.
Restaurant week food was fine, but the order of guacamole and chips was overpriced ($15).
We love Pompano. Everything about it is the best. Food is excellent, service is impeccable, drinks always right on! Thank you for making this a great dining experience
I love this place. Great food, great service and do pretty. Have another rez nrxt weekend
Food was very tasty. Nice atmosphere and good service.
Lovely outdoor seating area. Fresh and delicious food. Will return!
Excellent food, there is a smoked Margarita that is to die for! refreshing and spicy. My sister loves the smoked fish appetizer and we will go back anytime we are in the area... This was qualified by us as our Top Mexican Restaurant so far in the city!! :)
Food was delicious!!! Too pricy for common dishes. They don't provide complimentary bread or nachos either.
We were five and the five of us will come back
Great menu choices for NYC Restaurant Week for lunch. Would have enjoyed it more if they could do something to absorb the noise level.
The ambiance is very nice as well as the decor. The food is very good and I loved them as I am a vegetarian and they had a separate menu for it. I think it's slight on an expensive end but considering the location and service, I think it's worth it.
A would definitely recommend it for a date night too.. ;)
We had a very enjoyable dinner at Pampano and will definitely return.
the food was amazing, the wait staff awesome and we loved the space!
Cocktails were great...very unique! My beet salad was fantastic. Striped bass was delicious, as were the pork tacos. Food was beautifully presented, and the service was exceptional!
Our tacos and the pineapple margaritas were pretty outstanding and I would maybe go there again for them. However, our service was really slow and rude. It was frustrating to see the change in service when it was older male versus younger female. Overall though it wasn't really worth dealing with the service.
One of the best places for Mexican food ever! Simple as that !!!
Super loud, horrible service, food just ok and very overpriced. I’ll never go back and would never recommend this to anyone
This was my first visit, and I couldn't have been more pleased! Bravo to the bartender -- the Hibiscus Margaritas were stupendous! And the entire meal, from the traditional guacamole, the marinated fish appetizer, the chicken with mole sauce, and the (absolutely heavenly!) choco-flan, could not have been better. Same for the service, which was attentive without being hovering, and the ambiance, which was bright, comfortable, and inviting on a hot, humid NY summer day. My friend and I had a superb time!
Muchas gracias, and I will definitely be back -- next time with a party of six!
all three of us ordered salads. the salad greens were soggy, the beets weren't even cut evenly, no dressing and the chicken, which we asked for it to be grilled, wasn't cooked to our liking. the service was subpar, we had to continuously request for water. it's not like there was anyone. I used to frequent and recommend this place a lot but I feel like the quality and consistency are deteriorating. not going back for a while.
Went with an old friend for a catch up dinner. Sangria was good, had a mix of appetizers all tasty. Portions are modest, but the quality is high.
My office has come here for lunch several times and are never disappointed. We sat outside this time - it was lovely. The lunch special is perfect, and I recommend the chile rellenos - fresh and delicious. We shared desserts - cocoa flan, tres leches, helados, sorbet - all of it was great.
Love this place! Food is wonderful and the Margaritas are exceptional REALLY! Just find a way to keep it cooler upstairs please! I’ve been there almost 10 times in just 2 months!
Over priced for what it is.
Too much ice in the cocktails.
The food was good but very small portions.
Service was slow.
I used to go to Pampano often and loved the atmosphere and food. I have not been for a while but my friend was coming in town so I decided to take him there. Not sure if that was a bad day, but we were seated in the small space in the back of the bar. Air conditioning was not working in the bar
