The restaurant has an upstairs that has a lovely view of the garden but was noisy and energetic and we were looking for quiet and romatic. The main level of the restaurant fit that need wonderfully. The food was great and the service attentive without being overbearing. I would recommend this restaurant to all. Everythig from the Guacamole to there fabulous desserts was delightful.
Pampano has been one of our favorite restaurants for several years. The seafood dishes are unique, consistently fresh and visually appealing. The starters are also typically very good....our favorites are the ceviche(s) and guacamole. Their wine list is also well priced with good bottles available for less than typical NYC prices.
We live in the neighborhood and had never tried Pampano before. We went with friends and had a delightful dining experience. The food was scumptious and the service very attentive. The maitre d' even brought over an extra dessert for the table. Our only complaint was that we sat downstairs and the ambiance was less than warm and inviting. Maybe upstairs dining is better.
Pampano is a wonderful upscale Mexican restaurant that puts a new twist on old Mexican favorites. Definitely worth a visit. Service is super attentive. Servers are informative and extremely friendly. For a fine Mexican fare with some added finesse, try Pampano!
Very nice dining experience, EXCEPT...extremely limited gluten free options. Not sure if the server really understood the issue. We were told that all but three entrees on the menu included gluten...including the paella....hmmmm. None of my recipes for paella add wheat or flour!
Pampano was super. The space is appealing, the wait staff is attentive an unobtrusive and the food is tasty and creatively presented.
Started with the guacamole ($13) (can be spicy or not - ours was spicy) and it was delicious. The chips served with it were a bit different but warm and nice.
Had the prix fixe lunch ($28) with mixed seafood ceviche, skirt steak and chocolate flan. All were good, but the flan was at the same level as the rest of the dishes.
Would definitely dine here again.
We started with the spicy guacamole which was very good but not spicy. I had the braised short ribs which were extremely tender and flavorful in a tasty, mildly spicy broth. My girlfriend had the paella which she said was excellent. The portion was very large. Restaurant was a little loud, but not too loud to have a comfortible conversation. Overall it was a great meal. Would definitely go back.
If you like seafood, this is the place. The ceviches are fantastic and great to share with a group. Each dish is uniquely flavored without over doing it on sauces. You can actually taste the quality of the fish. The beef dishes looked good, but our table stuck with the seafood. The octopus salad was tender and perfectly flavored. You won't be disappointed with the desserts as they made a great finish to an already great meal. Staff is friendly and very professional.
Frankly, I was a little disappointed in the food this time - it didn't measure up to the other times I went. The 4 variety ceviches was unispiring: the shrimp was overcooked and it really wasn't a ceviche and the other three fish ceviches were overwhelmed by the sauces. Started out badly when the guacamole that we asked for to me "moderate hot" was way too hot with flecks of red pepper that could catch your throat and make you gag. They recommended a side dish of sauteed vegetables that we accepted but it turned out to be asparagus which was already the underlay for the black cod. the black cod, by the way, was excellent: perfectly cooked and suculent. I will give it another shot.
We were really surprised and impressed with the quality of service and food. Everything - from start to finish - was spectacular. The cod was incredible, and so was the paella. And they knew we were there for a happy occasion and sent over champagne. It was so thoughtful and nice. We can't wait to go back and try more things from the menu. It's kind of a random location, but it's an awesome restaurant.
We'd just flown in a few hours before so felt like something light - we started with the passionfruit mojito and hibiscus margarita - both way too sweet. We shared guac & chips and then a selection of appetisers including lobster tacos and taster cerviches. It was all too sweet and didnt taste fresh enough. We were shocked by the bill when it came - for that menu you can have much better experiences in the city.
Pampano's menu is a creative approach to Mexican cuisine. The guacamole and smoked swordfish appetizers were popular and plentiful. The lobster and filet mignon tacos were tasty, but tiny for the costly price. The chicken and paella entrees were light and flavorful. The paella featured tiny clams,scallops & sausages were minced,sparse calamari.It was more like seafood flavored rice than paella.Desserts were the best feature,corncakes and chocolate cake recommended.If you want appetizers, drinks and dessert, Pampano is for you. Entrees were high priced and not impressive.
Pampano was wonderful as usual...atmosphere, service and especially the food. We went for a Restaurant Week $35 prix fixe dinner, which did not disappoint in any way. We started with fantastic Tesoro margaritas and guacamole and chips a al carte. For the dinner we ordered empanadas, small but delicious, and fabulous paella, very moist and aromatic with a great blend of classic ingredients.Desserts were great too - a chocoflan or mellow coconut ice cream with a gentle lemon sorbet. What a great meal!
We were there for a Winter Restaurant Week lunch. Because of terrible traffic we arrived at 230PM when they close for lunch, but they took pity on us and served us with full courtesy. All the dishes of our 3-course lunches were very good. Our only complaint was their overpriced wines -- $13 for a glass of passable red wine.. two glasses of wine cost more than the special lunch.
We tried the Restaurant Week menu The food was excellent and the service was good too. The cocktails were absoultely superb! Am now a big fan of Richard Sandoval restaurants, having had two excellent meals before at Zengo and now at Pampamo. Can't wait to try Maya next. The standard of food and drinks at his restaurants are just outstanding! The setting is lovely in its simplicity and casual elegance. I would recommend Pampano to anyone who enjoys seafood.
