Pampano New York Ratings and Reviews
The service was unbelievably slow. The ambience and place was nice, but I am shocked with the service. We had to ask them 10x to get anything done. I swear if we didn't ask for the check, we would still be sitting there. Friend asked for her dish to be prepared differently and they did the exact opposite of what she asked. Moreso I am just shocked how they function so slowly and NEVER checking in on our table or asking us if everything is OK. We had to get up and walk over to ask to have our order to be taken. We were there for 2 and a half hours for a regular brunch with 5 people. It seems as if the waiters who work there, don't know that they are waiters! Also, it was my friends birthday. I asked to have a desert brought over to us after our meal with a candle for her, and not to bring over desert menus. They came over with desert menus! And then never came back! I had to remind them that they agreed to a desert with a candle!
We enjoyed this restaurant. The food was good. The entrance seemed a little muggy though. Like you were in a cave. Also there were a couple of flies in the dining area which didn’t seem to disappear. But overall the food was presented well. But I wouldn’t say we’d rush to return.
This is a very quality place, and is one of the few locations in NYC where you can get non-Tex Mex Mexican food. The food here is very equivalent to what you might eat at a very good restaurant in Mexico City. I had the Red Snapper Veracruz which was very good. The staff tried to be very responsive, however, at least tonight, there was too little help. There appeared to be one waiter for all guests, and one assistant. As a result, even the chef was serving food tonight. For the very high prices Pampano charges, this was unacceptable. Kudos to the staff that tried, however. Management: make sure you are not under-staffed.
After giving us only the options of 7:15 or 7:45, not 7:30 as we wanted. When we arrived for our 7:15 reservation they kept us waiting half an hour. Although they were apologetic, they did not offer us a free after dinner coffee or any other sort of tangible apology. That kind of service does not encourage a return visit. The rest of the service was good, other than the waiter trying to suggest the Dom Perignon Champagne for $350 (he didn't tell us the price).
This beautiful restaurant is a must if you are in New York City! Our experience, friends from Florida and Missouri together for a lovely evening. The staff is outstanding, the food is excellent and dining outside is a must, weather permitting! Thank you Pampano!
You know you are in a good, authentic place when the food literally transports you to your grandmother's house when you were a child. The black bean soup had this fantastic combination of ingredients that I have not found anywhere but in my grandma's kitchen. That soup, by itself, was worth the trip.
The sword fish appetizer was very good and the pisco sour was fantastic (I know, pisco sour is not Mexican, but in any case, it was very refreshing and perfectly mixed).
Price wise, well you are in NYC ... 'nough said.
Pampano Is always excellent. Delicious and creative Mexican seafood in midtown Manhattan, One of my favorite dishes is the shrimp quesadilla--served open face with light salad, amazing sauce and perfectly cooked. It is the perfect choice for lunch. Homemade guacamole and chips, prepared however you desire is fantastic. I enjoy taking business partners here since they are always pleased with their meals. Consistency makes the difference. On nice days, consider sitting outside on the deck--you won't be sorry.
Excellent guacamole and very tasty fish. Sitting outdoors on a hot summer night is also very enjoyable. The food is first rate, but the service is not that good. we waited a long time for the guacamole - by then we had already had 2 drinks each. T
hen the guacamole came and the main course in less than 5 minutes.
This is my second time at Pampano. The staff and service are excellent, super professional attentive without being intrusive or overwhelming. The ingredients are definitely fresh and qualitative. the dishes are tasty and there is some definite creativity to these authentic Mexican recipes. Lunch or Dinner I definitely recommend !
Overall the place was very nice, and clean/pretty decor, it was a little bit warm regarding the temperature of the space. Even though our meals were tasty, I just felt as if me and my guest were being rushed out of the restaurant. The staff just kept staring at us as we sat and asked if we were done. Even when we arrived, there was a look of hesitation in seating us (probably because of the way we were dressed).
At a restaurant like this you have high expectations so when things don't go well it's disappointing. Out of four dishes three were very good to excellent, the last a skirt steak substitution on the fliet mignon should never have left the kitchen. It was served luke warm and tough as shoe leather. The mole sauce and spices were very good. At times it was also difficult to find our waiter. The restaurant did not charge us for the one meal and provided a nice after dinner drink. I liked the dinning room and will put this on the list to try another time, maybe the brunch.
This was my first time to Pampano and I must say it was fantastic. Though I arrived 30minutes late they were very accommodating and sat us at the upstairs terrace which we appreciated for it was a beautiful Spring evening. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. The quinoa salad was divine and enough for a party of 3. We ordered the huaraches, grilled octopus and rock shrimp appetizers. We shared the rice and beans plus the plantains. Overall the food was superb our waiter Hugo was fantastic as was Frank.
Table not ready when we arrived, but others seated before us. Eventually offered a seat at the bar, then offered a table in the bar rather than the restaurant. Food good, but won't be using you again for a business lunch. 20 minute wait for a booked table not good enough.
