Pampano New York Ratings and Reviews
The food was terrible. The gazpacho tasteless, as was the marinated chicken. The ceviche was probably the best item along with sorbet. The salsa was unsalted tomatoes that accompanied a tasteless chicken. Better enchiladas are available in food trucks at way lower prices. The guacamole was mashed avocado. So all in all a 100$ disastrous lunch.
4 of us went for Restaurant Week lunch. There was a nice set of food options and the food was very good. Unfortunately, the service was incredibly slow. Although it was busy (1PM lunch on a Wednesday), given that we ordered from the special menu I would have expected lunch to take less than 90 minutes.
I love this restaurant. It is very pretty, quite clean and the food is delicious! I ate lunch there with friends two Tuesdays in a row. My friends all loved the restaurant as well. Each visit we celebrated someone's birthday. I especially loved the gauzpacho. I cannot wait to go back!
very nice decor - loved the rooftop seating overlooking 49th St. The staff was friendly and attentive. Taking advantage of restaurant week, I started with a refreshing glass of rose, then tried the ensalada quinoa salad which was a bit flavorless, the robalo placido was pretty tasty and ended with a nice pastel de elote. o
I used to love this place. It's changed a lot.
I went to order the octopus and the waiter told me most people don't like it because it comes in a broth. Weird he told me that (in those words) but I appreciated his honesty. I asked for it the exact same way minus the broth. When it came out, it was one piece of octopus. When he put the plate in front of me, I asked, doesn't this come w chick peas and vegetables? And he said yes....ha, very confused. He apologies and brought out asparagus.
We had to chase the waiter down for drinks and I kept asking for margaritas w no salt and the rim was always salted. It's a pretty pricey place to literally have everything you order messed up.
The food and service at Pampano are always excellent. We went this time during restaurant week and were very happy with the menu choices. I loved the ceviche, it is particularly good here, but we enjoyed everything we ordered. The only down-side of going during restaurant week is that the place was crowded with a few large and very noisy groups. I'll go back again, but maybe on a quieter night.
The service was unbelievably slow. The ambience and place was nice, but I am shocked with the service. We had to ask them 10x to get anything done. I swear if we didn't ask for the check, we would still be sitting there. Friend asked for her dish to be prepared differently and they did the exact opposite of what she asked. Moreso I am just shocked how they function so slowly and NEVER checking in on our table or asking us if everything is OK. We had to get up and walk over to ask to have our order to be taken. We were there for 2 and a half hours for a regular brunch with 5 people. It seems as if the waiters who work there, don't know that they are waiters! Also, it was my friends birthday. I asked to have a desert brought over to us after our meal with a candle for her, and not to bring over desert menus. They came over with desert menus! And then never came back! I had to remind them that they agreed to a desert with a candle!
We enjoyed this restaurant. The food was good. The entrance seemed a little muggy though. Like you were in a cave. Also there were a couple of flies in the dining area which didn’t seem to disappear. But overall the food was presented well. But I wouldn’t say we’d rush to return.
This is a very quality place, and is one of the few locations in NYC where you can get non-Tex Mex Mexican food. The food here is very equivalent to what you might eat at a very good restaurant in Mexico City. I had the Red Snapper Veracruz which was very good. The staff tried to be very responsive, however, at least tonight, there was too little help. There appeared to be one waiter for all guests, and one assistant. As a result, even the chef was serving food tonight. For the very high prices Pampano charges, this was unacceptable. Kudos to the staff that tried, however. Management: make sure you are not under-staffed.
