Palmilla Cocina Y Tequila Ratings and Reviews
My all-time-favorite. The service is always stellar. Never too pushy, always perfect. I can't say enough about the food. Try everything. Drinks are delish. Got a bottle of wine on my b-day. Very reasonable and quite good. Love the patio but the inside is just gorgeous and sexy. Eye-candy everywhere. This place remains my special-occasion place but also my favorite daytime/ drinks / people watching on patio. From start to finish, always exceptional.
Our first visit - after reading previous reviews we elected to sit outside in the patio. Inside seemed boisterous but didn’t bother us on the patio. Service was excellent and attentive but not pushy. My wife’s meal seemed a little over priced but it was one of the specials of the house. I dropped the value rating from 4 to 3 stars due to this. We will definitely be back.
Hostess was extremely cold which is a shame because that's the first person you see walking into a restaurant. We were weary about staying after that. Waiter was very nice...he seemed a little busy even though there were a lot of empty tables. People by the bar were really loud and it looked like they were regulars because a lot of the waiters seemed to know them. The food for me was the best part.
The best thing about this restaurant was the drinks. The food was terrible. The guacamole tasted like it came from a tub from Walmart (couldn't eat it). Salsa terrible served with homemade flour tortillas that were raw in the middle. The food overall was flavorless and not cooked very well. There were too many tables packed into a small space. A horrible dining experience!
This restaurant has nothing to do with how it's advertised. We had expected an elegant place and a fine-dining experience. Instead, we got a loud bar, drunk diners dancing at the bar, and food & drinks that were those befitting a mediocre Americanized version of Mexican food.
Upon arrival seated immediately per our reservation; settled in our booth, however, had to just sit and ground ourselves for a little bit - we thought maybe there was a "fire" in the kitchen or something as the wait staff was running -- and I do mean RUNNING -- as if they were attempting to serve 5000 patrons with a staff of three!?!? We were mystified by the kinetic energy, very un-nerving and uncomfortable, making it hard to relax and look at menu. And then it took almost 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged - no hello, no water, nothing. Thankfully we hung in there and finally our very charming waiter arrived and took good care of us. The menu is expansive with some wonderfully creative dishes, as well as the typical Mexican food fare -- we opted for creative (waiter assisted) and neither of us were disappointed. Our respective steaks were perfect, seafood (prawns) excellent, roasted veggies delightful. And oh yes, our appetizer (Tostadaditas Ahi Ceviche) could have been a meal -- two orders of that, a salad or soup, and a few drinks would do very nicely. I hesitated to order dinner when we ordered appetizers and I should have listened to myself because dinner came way too fast -- on top of the ceviche, no time to savor and enjoy. Won't do that again. The kinetic energy by the waiters finally calmed down after about an hour -- still don't get the why of that. Our waiter treated us to dessert -- fried ice cream -- which we shared and was just enough to end a wonderful meal. Will we go again? If we can find a quiet, less busy time, yes ... otherwise probably not. Upon leaving, the hostess cut us off at the doorway (without a word) so we had to wait on five patrons to walk through; so rude, an annoyance that wasn't necessary. More training of staff in order maybe? Friendlier hostesses (no eye contact ever); and 'calm down' waiters, is it really a race to feed us and get us out the door? If so, then definitely won't be back.
I love this place so much it will be my go to whenever I'm in town! Everything couldn't be more perfect. Go for the food... go for the fun... go for the atmosphere! They work hard, the service is top notch... and they mix it all up with a lot of fun! Love you JD and John!
I had to ask for a server after being seated for 10-15 minutes with servers walking right past us. But after we got attention from our server, everything was great! Food was delicious, bottomless mimosas were the best deal. They really filled them up to the top of the glass and often! Sitting outside was a really nice treat. I would definitely come back if I were to visit Hermosa Beach again.
Wanted something local but special for our wedding anniversary and went to Palmilla. My husband hadn't tried it and he was very happy with our choice. We loved our dinner and drinks!
What sets it apart from the many restaurants in the South Bay is the cool chic ambiance, the friendly and attentive service and the delicious tortillas and cocktails.
Great Mexican/Yucatán type food right on the Pier in Hermosa Beach. I requested to be seated outdoors and was lucky to get it...they are always busy. And for good reason. Their food is delicious. My favorite is the Short rib taquitos and their quacamole ! Their tortillas are all made on site and really fresh. Our waiter was really considerate of my hearing issues and took fantastic care of my sister and I and her kids. Make reservations if possible, because it is a busy place!
Had a 5 PM reservation with my husband and very well behaved nine-month. Had called the restaurant ahead of time to make sure that they were OK with us bringing a baby, and would supply a high chair, they said of course! Once we got there they seemed to rush the entire dining experience. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer and our entrées at the same time. Five minutes after we received our appetizer and hadn't taken a bite yet our entrées came out and the server asked if he could clear our appetizer. We hadn't taken one bite! They repeatedly kept checking on us once we Started eating to see if we were finished and needed a check. In looking around at the other tables their service was at a comfortable pace.
Would clearly not recommend if you have children because they will run you out of there. Start to finish from the time we sat down to the time that we started the car was one hour!! Hands-down the most disappointing dining experience we've ever had in LA- will not return and will not recommend.
We picked this restaurant for lunch/brunch based on reviews but were very disappointed. I have to be gluten free and was told there was not many options, nothing is called out on the menu so can't recommend to the GF community. The wait staff don't know what is GF.
We ordered Mojitos that were way too sweet so had to return them. We've have plenty of good Mojitos so know what good tastes like :)
Then the food..my wife's, the Huevos Verde Scramble, was VERY salty and mine, the Palmilla omelette, was bland and the shredded chicken (machaca,) dry. There were also lots of jalapenos and the chimichurri sauce was hot (requested on the side) which is great if you like that but we asked for mild so I wouldn't expect cut jalapenos added.
The server was nice but the place wasn't busy and he just left us on our own for long periods. We then had to wait 10 mins+ to pay the bill and we just wanted to leave.
We don't get out much as a couple because we have young kids at home and have to organize a babysitter so this was a really disappointing experience. We won't go back especially as we felt pretty sick afterwards.
For reference, we do love Mexican food, especially our local, Calimex, which we go to regularly with the kids.
The first time I went I was amazed. Great grade of people - fun - food was outstanding - service was outstanding. This time - horrible! Stupid crowd, people who work there calling customers "Brah" - I mean, really? There are some great waiters, bartenders, but news flash -they aren't that important! If your pants are too tight and you really your gorgeous - buy a mirror. Sorry, really disappointed in the food as well. Made me embarrassed to talk it up so much to the people I came with - they were like - what were you thinking?
We had a nice evening, however, our server was a little scatter-brained and I probably had the worst seat in the whole restaurant (last table located at the back where servers and diners walk past to go to the restrooms). I think every server and every diner bumped into my seat since there is very little room to walk around! As you can imagine, very annoying and upsetting.
