First time at Palmilla and it was great. From the time we arrived until we left. Wonderful service, the food and drinks outstanding... love the fresh tortillas. I will definitely come back. Thank you!
We have eaten at Palmilla Cocina several times over the past few years. This evening our party of 3 had dinner to celebrate a birthday. We made our reservation with Open Table and we were seated immediately on arrival. Our waiter was attentive and informative. We ordered a couple of their Peppina Diablo margaritas and a classic, hand squeezed lime margarita. They were all very good but at $12.50 a piece the Peppina Diablo margaritas are overpriced. Even at $11 the classic margarita is too expensive especially given that all of the drinks were fairly small - a highball glass of mostly ice.
We ordered the short rib taquitos as an appetizer which was quite tasty. For the main we had 2 Playa La Brisas ($31.50/ea) and a Chipotle Pollo y Hongos ($22). All were quite good albeit expensive. We finished with a Flan De Azucar and the waiter very thoughtfully brought a fried ice cream desert for the birthday girl. We all ordered coffee however, quite surprisingly what was served was barely lukewarm and had to be returned which at $4.50 a cup was disappointing.
The tab totalled $192 not including the tip for 3 people and only one round of drinks. I have to say that makes Palmilla decidedly expensive. Many of the main dishes were >$30 and several were in the $40+ range. We limited ourselves to one round of drinks and avoided the more expensive items (>$40) on the menu. I no longer consider Palmilla to be a reasonably priced place to eat. It is also the ONLY place on Pier Plaza to not have a happy hour. It is for this reason that we are likely to not eat there much in the future as it is basically a $75/pp (assuming you add a glass of wine or an additional drink with your meal) making it the most expensive casual mexican restaurant that I know.
Food, margaritas and atmosphere were all awesome here!!
Food and drink enjoyable, crew questionable, hostess particularly abnoxious and rude. Can not recommend anymore.
We checked in 10 mins. Late - hostess immediately tells us we only have the table until 8:30, we asked for a booth and was told if we moved to a booth we would only have 45 min to dine. So we stayed at table next to bar. It was freezing in there. We were there for a birthday and dinner was not cheap. You get the feeling that you are being rushed. When your bill for three people is over $300.00, you would expect to be a left alone to dine in peace. That is not the case. This has been our go to celebration restaurant. Not sure it will be in the future. Nothing is worst than being rushed while dining...
Great food and ambiance
We were there on Tues night to celebrate our 25th anniversary and they had a black out so we had to leave so we didn’t get to have dinner. So we went back Sat night sat outside and had a really great waiter named Eric. We had apps cocktails and dinner. Everything was great but I ordered the chicken enchiladas Suisa for the first time and It was very dry and I wasn’t very happy with it but my husband had the seafood plate and loved it.
Loved this place. However, we said it was my birthday and they forgot to come out. It happens! Just make sure you let them know before hand. Will definitely return. LOVED their Tortillas.
My husband and I came for dinner for our 25th anniversary. We ordered and enjoyed appetizers and special margaritas. Unfortunately, after we put in our dinner order there was a blackout and we had to leave without eating. We were really bummed but we understood it was not not their fault and we will definitely go back.
Palmilla is my favorite Mexican Restaurant and highly recommend it for the quality of it’s deluctable dishes and the vibrant bar scene! They also have the best Skinny Margaritas in town!
I have been here many times, and it is ALWAYS a great experience. I love sitting outside, even when it gets chilly (they have heaters). Their margaritas are absolutely divine. The food is the best I have ever had. The wait staff is great, personable, and attentive. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Great menu from a very talented chef. Excellent service staff.
tacos camaron were great, raspberry mango blended mojito was amazing!
The service was good the food was good but the flies were awful they told us they cannot get rid of the flies so the whole time we were eating we were shooing flies away which I found extremely unhealthy and extremely annoying. Unless they can correct this problem I will never be back
Love this place, always great service and yummy food!!
Very cool spot where everyone looks beautiful! The lighting and decor are forgiving and fabulous!
Its a bit loud so don't expect an intimate conversation, but after a few delicious margaritas, who cares.
I love the cool vibe and fun outdoor patio. The food was great and the spicy margaritas are fantastic. We had the ceviche sampler and shrimp enchiladas and both were excellent. We eat here every couple of months.
Food was good but not great- servers were friendly and attentive.
The food and drinks were excellent and the table and seating were comfortable and lovely atmosphere. HOWEVER, as much as I admire this restaurant, the noise from the bar crowd was deafening. The decimal meter was off the charts. So, either go for lunch or definitely have an outdoor table unless you are with people whom you would rather not converse with. Noise canceling headphones would be useless here.
Delicious cocktails and food, great view from the patio, attentive waiters, beautiful people!
This is my favorite go-to in Hermosa! I live in San Diego and found out about this place when my best friend used to live in the area. The past weekend my boyfriend and I drove up to Long Beach to visit her but before we did, we stayed the night in redondo and made our way to the reservations here. He loved it like I knew he would. You seriously cannot go wrong with this place for food or drinks!
Sat at the bar window. Rocky was our server. He is awesome! Always friendly and on top of things. Makes amazing drinks and keeps them coming! He rocked! Ps loved the tortillas and honey butter!
Amazing service and a fun array of cocktail selections and the food is delicious too!
Great food. Will come back again.
Sudden arrival of a few too many flies to relax and enjoy our lunch. The place was busy and there were not enough servers. This doesn't happen often. Service was very slow and not attentive. We didn't get the service we are used to at this establishment.
A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. as always. Celebrated anniversaries with dear out of town friends. Best spicy margaritas
Waiter argued with how to make a margarita without agave syrup and then charged $25. Food was Average at best and expensive compared to most restaurants in the area. We are local, our out of town friends suggested the place and were equally disappointed.
We come for our anniversary every year and the manager and servers always make sure it’s special! Wonderful meal and evening.
Great food and great service! Drinks are overpriced.
We had both breakfasts and lunches. Great and delicious. Very friendly atmosphere. Quantity was plentiful.
Bar tables need new chairs. The chairs tilt . Noise is very loud !
Great upscale Mexican dining spot in Hermosa. Service was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Food was excellent and drinks were even better! Definitely coming back soon.
Food was average; drink selection was excellent ; great service; nice ambiance
Love this place the other dozen times I came and brought friends....tonight we got jammed in the back of the restaurant, with tables of mixed height, blocking the waiters path to food pickup. When I asked to be reseated I was told everything I did wrong in making my reservation(?)....”you booked for 4 then changed to 6”, he was correct, I did that because on Open Table I couldn’t book a party larger than 4, so we spoke on the phone and I was told the patio was too full but inside would be fine. I was never told we’d be squeezed into the back. The gentleman who seated us should have steered clear of “blame the customer” and simply looked into what he could do and just apologize and perhaps gratis us an appetizer.
Our waiter really stepped up and gave us the great usual attention. The drinks are always good as it the food!
Chris our server saved our experience. Top notch service and excellent food
I've always enjoyed dining here for the beach-side location, the complimentary home made tortillas and other delicious offerings but recently, the service has been pretty bad, quality of food has decreased and no fresh tortillas when you sit down. One time they tried to pass store bought ones as their home made ones. Margaritas are still the best, but other than that I have no desire to come back.
The food was delicious! The service was great, and the ambience was pleasant.
The corn and chicken tamale was very very good. I enjoyed the whole dining experience.
They are truly accommodating at Palmilla. They get busy sometimes but always aim to please, and the beverages and food are excellent.
Extensive, creative menu. To die for warm flour tortillas to start and amazing cocktail choices.
The food is so delicious and satisfying. The best taquitos ever, light and no trace of greasiness. Can't wait to go back.
