While usually we love this spot, the service on this occasion was sub par. We were only a group of 6 and were not attended to in a timely manner. We ended up having to take our food to go because after 45 minutes were were not served. When we tried to speak to the manager he was rude and did not take care of us in a professional manner. A group of six was seated after us and got their order taken and their food before us and in a very normal, timely manner. Not sure why all this occurred, but left with a very bad taste in our mouth.
Consistently excellent Italian cuisine with a professional staff that can execute a solid service. One way you know you're in a good restaurant is when the menu is small enough to indicate that the kitchen knows exactly what they are doing and, as you return, the specials keep changing in response to what the chefs find fresh at their suppliers each morning. That's Palio---such a solid business lunch place for me.
Happy to be back and will back many more times.
This was the first time I have eaten here since it reopened after the renovation. This restaurant is great for all occasions or just because you’re in the mood for Italian. Service was excellent from the time we were greeted by the host, Martino , and throughout the dinner. Our waiter, Martin, was attentive, friendly, and careful with dietary restrictions in the food he brought out to our party. We will definitely be back.
Superb bread, pastas, service. Quiet enough for a good business conversation, stylish remodeled interior, but same excellent chefs and serving staff. The only drawback is the parking lot that used be across the street is gone---but local parking is still within 1.5 blocks. Enjoy having downtown business lunches here and will be back many more times.
My friend an I went to Palio on Thanksgiving. Service staff were attentive and kind. Food quality was exceptional.
I have eaten at Palio many times, typically at lunch. It's a great place, the staff and food are great.
We had the thanksgiving dinner turkey was dry, gravy and stuffing were insipid. The steak was lackluster as well as dessert
Food was mostly very tasty, the one exception was that the side dishes were not hot. Good, quiet table, and excellent service. Price a bit high, but overall good experience.
Pleasant personnel, great service. Food is good, solid, just no wow factor. Overall good for a big company.
Food is always great delicious and healthy! Wonderful staff!
Delicious food, piping hot! The staff is very friendly and professional
One of 4 dishes was very tasty. The others were not. They call a shrimp a prawn and that should tell you about value and execution. The half size pasta serving was very small and the flavor was bland although the pasta itself was expertly made. A shame to put poor sauce on lovely pasta. They have been much better at lunch.
Unbelievable white truffle dinner!
I loved the menu of this restaurant. I thought it is one of the farm based sustainable restaurants that crafts their meals, like an artist. I got ravioli with squash. The ravioli dough was hard and chewy, and the amounts of squash was so small that it was basically pasta drenched in oil (for some reason there was a lot of oil at the bottom of the plate). There was occasional brussel sprout in a plate, some parmesan on the top. Meeh. My friend had an ink squid pasta with salmon. She so disliked the purple pasta, that I shared my ravioli with her. The people were super nice, the service and ambient, but if food is not good, what is the point of dining?
This was my first time at this restaurant. The smoked chicken risotto was outstanding and so was the halibut. Our server was attentive and we had a lovely evening.
Loved this place so much. The food was amazing and we enjoyed everything we ordered
Nice as always. Consistently great food and service.
The maître d greeted me with a smile but since I was the first one there for a party of three I waited in the lounge area in front of the bar. Very pleasant.
When everyone arrived he then showed us our table. The staff brought us water and the waiter brought the menus and told us the specials.
The food, staff and ambience was excellent. I will be back.
Great food in a wonderful atmosphere with great service.
Delicious food! The service was so attentive and hospitable! We'll definitely return to Palio!
Classic northern Italian cuisine plus wood-fired pizza. We come for dinner several times a year and it is always a treat—seasonal favorites, beautifully prepared and served. Excellent wines by the glass and cocktails. I had the eggplant parmesan. My husband had the pasta with wild boar ragu. Both were perfect. Want to enjoy a conversation at dinner? This is the place!
I like how spacious the seating is by SF standards. The cocktail menu could be larger. The Amalfi Spritz was much better than the Gold Mirror, if you’re drinking gin. Our prosciutto-wrapped shrimp starter was way, way too salty. My pork shank with polenta was delicious. But I wish it came with more polenta. Like four times as much.
Great place, highly recommend and the owner is very kind.
Great food and service!
The food is exceptional and the service superb. It's truly a hidden gem. The restaurant had been here for many years and now has a more modern look.
This restaurant is a great choice for a business lunch, which I use it for a lot. They have a nice selection of salads, pasta and great pizza. Its relatively quick and priced reasonably. Service has always been good.
Friendly & authentic
There was a piece of hair in our food. Otherwise was good.
Delicious food with attentive service. The food was piping hot, which is unusual today!
Tried Palio for the first time since they remodeled. The food is still very high quality. Still have their signature crab pasta, and have added lobster ravioli, which was also very good. Also tried eggplant parmigiano (very tasty) and fritto misto, which is always well done. Portions on the small side. Prices of wine have increased but quality hasn't. Very friendly management and waiter, who provided good service.
Had the private room for our group of 24. The food was great. Service was a little slow though. Our entire party had to leave before dessert came out as it was getting late.
Other than that, everyone really enjoyed everything and we had a great night!
Amazing food, cool interior design, pleasant service and nice atmosphere. Would definitely come again if I lived in San Francisco :)
I love the remodel very modern and appealing. The food has always been good and this time was not exception. Service was great for a party of 7 they were very accommodating. I will come back
We have been to Palio (and its predecessor Palio d'Asti) many many times, for special occasions, holidays and just because we like it. Martino is a wonderful host and will choose a nice Italian wine to accompany your dinner if you ask him. He, his wife and all the staff are courteous and helpful as needed. And -- most importantly -- the food is always excellent and the prices are very very reasonable for the quality. Highest recommendation for one of our favorite places.
we were on our way to the theatre so we did not have time to have dessert or coffee.
Love this restaurant. The food is consistently excellent, creative and interesting. It's also great for happy hour -- maybe the best "bar food" in the city.
This recently remodeled restaurant in the financial district is now open for dinner on weekends. It has an elegant contemporary decor and a delicious menu. We also enjoyed attentive service. We don’t live near San Francisco, but like to visit so this is on our list.
