Palio is becoming our “go to” place before Grand Rapids Symphony concerts. The menu is awesome and the service is always great. Chef Ryan has designed a fresh, local menu and prepares it to perfection. Love this place!
Service was a bit slow, but the place was very busy when there. Food was worth the wait. Very good.
Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience this time. Palio is very hit-and-miss. When they are on their game, the food and service is out of this world. I would recommend it up and down. However, about every other time we visit we have a poor experience. Cold food, bad service. This was one of the bad nights.
Had a wonderful meal with friends. Our server was great- friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Would definitely go back!
Love this place! Never a bad meal and everyone friendly and efficient!
Great tasting food in a Italian atmosphere!! Andrea was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back!!
What a nice surprise! Great food and service. Great advice from waitress.
The service we received was absolutely top notch, the standard for service.
We had a great time at this restaraunt. The food was incredible. From appetizers through to desserts. I'm pretty picky about desserts and the monkey bread was AMAZING! We even had one of the chefs visit the table to check on how we liked the food. Our waitress Lauren was great! Incredibly friendly, but also knowledgeable about the menu. We tried several of her suggestions and loved them. The whole evening was great. Loved all the unique "extras" in the decor. If I had to say anything negative it would only be that it was pretty loud and one of our friends had a hard time hearing the whole conversation but the restaraunt was full and it wasn't unbearably loud by any means, just not a quiet atmosphere if that is what you are looking for. I'd highly recommend for a fun night out with amazing food!
We were visiting the area, walked from the hotel next door. Upon arrival the hostess told us they were reservation only ... not mentioning if they had openings or how to make a “reservation “.
Our group was talking in the entrance when another guest stated that they had just made reservations using open table. I downloaded the app and made a reservation for 10 minutes later.
Why wouldn’t the hostess just fill those times at her kiosk? Why almost lose customers because you’re a rude woman who can’t offer any options. The second hostess who seated us was much more pleasurable with an attitude of wanting to be there.
It’s taken me a few days to decide to leave a review about our experience at Palio. First of all, I loved the food!!! Great menu with rustic Italian touches, creative recipes.
Our server, Lauren, disappeared after taking our order and reappeared only sporadically. We sat with empty wine glasses, water glasses and water carafe for at least 15 minutes. That was after one glass of wine. Finally, the hostess noticed and brought us another water carafe.
Once finished, our plates sat on the table for another 20 minutes until the hostess once again helped us out by clearing the plates.
We asked to order dessert when our server finally appeared, and we asked for a menu. About 5-10 minutes later she came back for our dessert order, we told her we still needed the menu and she said her manager was supposed to give it to us.
I don’t really care what happens in a restaurant, I don’t want to hear excuses. She never apologized once, never even seemed to notice how we were doing.
We have been to many restaurants in this price range ($100 for 2 plus tip) and have never been treated so poorly.
I’m now trying to decide if the food was so great that it’s worth the poor service to return.
PS - kudos to the hostess!!!!!
Went for a date night... great restaurant! Would definitely go again!
This was our first visit. The server didn’t seem knowledgeable about the menu or wine and had to “go ask” often. The server was kind but was at our table often and tended to just keep talking making it hard for us to have our own conversation . The risotto special was very bland and a disappointment. I wanted it to be so much better based on other reviews of the restaurant. My date’s chicken Marsala was good.
atmosphere was a bit noisy made conversation hard. food was good but on the expensive side Since it was a special occasion this was all right, but not for everyday. it was fun and the server treated us well.
The chicken Marsala was quite possibly the worst I have ever had. The chicken was not cooked all the way and the the Marsala and mushrooms had zero flavor. The spaghetti with the eggplant Parmesan was so dry.
We were there to enjoy an evening on Vday and much needed time from the kids. We didn’t complain, we didn’t feel like it. Also, the host couldn’t find my reservation and I had to prove that I made it by showing our confirmed open table reservation through my email. At one point while I pulled my phone out, she rolled her eyes to go get the manager, as If she didn want to deal with us. It was 8:30 and we didn’t see another person walk in the door after us, but for some reason it was a big deal.
The baked Asiago was great! The ceasar salads were tasty, but entrees came a minute after salads. We enough the Tiramissu as well.
Just overall not a place I would like to visit again.
This was our second or third visit to Palio. We were alone for a Valentines Day evening out. Everything about the dinner & service was outstanding. Palio is perfect for couples as well as larger groups. We never felt rushed like you do in some restaurants on a typically busy holiday.
Service was the best part of this experience. The menu's are all digital with pics and descriptions. The only soup they offered was good. Appetizer was quite gross but managed to eat most of it because it's cheesy garlic bread and oil. Cheese was too hard and too much garlic was added. Founders Azecca was delicious and happy hour was an added bonus. I had the carbonara, and was excited by the table side preparation, but I believe there was an issue here. The guy who brought our food out (not our waitress) went to the wrong table first, and ended up letting the food cool to the point where it was unable to cook the raw egg (my opinion). There was an odd taste and texture to the dish you wouldn't normally have in delicious carbonara. The chicken tasted like school cafeteria food. The broccoli was also under cooked, and the sauce was bland. My girlfriend had chicken Marsala and it was also quite bad. We had to get a steak knife to cut her chicken. Because I did not eat more than a few bites of my meal it was taken off the check. We were also given a complementary piece of chocolate flour-less cake, it was OK. Beware of the new service. Groups of people on either side of us had drinks spilled on them. Heard four dropped glasses within 30 min. Much too expensive for the low quality ingredients. Save $70 and cook for yourself, it will be a much better experience.
Great value! Great manager!
Great place for a birthday dinner.
The service was great. Our waiter was awesome and attentive without being intrusive. Nice interior and good food. Portion sizes were moderate and a la carte was useful.
Amazing food. Restaurant environment is not representative of the food as it definitely understates the quality and experience. It's a great place.
This is not our first time at Palio and will not be the last. By far my favorite restaurant.
Our server was amazing! The food mirrored the service. Great experience
I thought the menu was great, the food was tasty, though not over the top. Prices were on the high end, particularly for the amount of food served. No bread was brought with the entree, however a house made limoncello was served at the end of the meal. Having been to Sorrento where Limoncello is made, this didn’t compare, but was a nice touch.
The service was very slow, even though the place wasn’t crowded. Our server was friendly, just not very attentive. Food was just average. Very overpriced for the the quality. Not horrible, just no reason to return.
And then forgot to check us in on the Open Table site, so we had to deal with getting our points because Open Table was notified that we weren’t there.
Great food and great service. The staff was very friendly and the food tasted wonderful. Will definitely be back.
Good food, excellent service, liked the calamari good wine selection.
Fabulous fresh food, something for everyone, beautiful desserts, excellent service! Love the iPad light up menus too!
The server, Penny, was really nice
Loved the complimentary limoncello!
Loved it so much that we went back two nights in a row....brought friends back. Each patron gets a tablet instead of a physical menu w/photos. The photos on the menu look exactly like the food. It was amazing! You also get a free homemade limoncello shot after your meal. It's the best limoncello I've had. The shrimp are huge on a scampi, the dough on the pizza is great, the short rib pasta was tasty, lemon dessert was fresh, and much more. We were visiting Grand Rapids for the first time for a sports tournament. We cannot wait to come back so we can eat at Palio. Finally, both night, the servers were outstanding and friendly. See you again soon!
We tried Palio for the first time the other night. We have eaten in many of Grand Rapids' Italian restaurants, and this one meets the competition. Interesting menu and wine list, friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff, cheerful atmosphere. Great dinner!
Great service. Very flavorful dishes. Easy to enjoy a group or a private occasion
We found the food to be outstanding and the service even better. This is the second time we've been here and we'll be back again . . .we won't be waiting for a special occasion, either.
Fresh, never frozen, seafood. Fresh pasta. Need I say more? Excellent Italian food.
Overall, we enjoyed our time at Palio. It was a little more modern and casual than we expected, after having been to Palio in Ann Arbor a few years ago. The menu is nothing like what it used to be in Ann Arbor (though that may have changed quite a bit since we were last there). Our server was attentive and very nice, but the food quality didn’t consistently meet the mark for the price we paid. The house and Caesar salads were very good. My husband had the chicken mostarda, which was very good and flavorful. The eggplant Parmesan was more breading than eggplant, lacked seasoning, and sorely lacked marinara sauce; the pasta underneath was completely without sauce. Another person in our party ordered the cavatappi chicken which also lacked flavor and sauce. The dessert was quite good, though (limoncello bar). We may check it out again in the future, but it doesn’t rank highly on the date night restaurant list for us. We were disappointed.
We went for a pre-symphony dinner. Great food and service!
We had a great time with family celebrating a birthday. Appreciate the free birthday dinner. Most thought the food was good. Staff was friendly. Would have liked it a bit warmer in the restaurant.
Food was good, but not special. I was expecting better Italian food from an Italian restaurant. Meatballs, sauce and noodles lacked flavor. I enjoyed the wine flights and lemon dessert was excellent.
