Palio - Grand Rapids
Palio is named for the famous horse race that runs through Siena, Italy twice each year. The original Palio Ristorante in Ann Arbor, Michigan, founded in 1991, includes a record of the race's winners on a mural along the back dining room wall. However, Palio is certainly not a chain-restaurant. As a Mainstreet Ventures' distinctive eatery, each Palio brand retains similarities, however, each restaurant is unique in the menu, style, ambiance, food and décor. Palio in Grand Rapids is designed with an intensity that is as wild and colorful as the horse race itself!
Palio is open for both lunch and dinner, and features a happy hour with food and drinks specials.
Friday & Saturday: 11:30am - 11:00pm;
Sunday: 11:00am - 8:00pm
BARELY Average at best!
I really wanted to like Palio as we could use a new good restaurant. Prices were as to be expected for an excellent restaurant but the food was FAR from excellent. The chicken parm was cooked to a rubbery texture and tasted as if it were a leftover from the night before and reheated. The portions were half the size one would get at any comperable restaurant. I usually eat less than half my meal at most places but the portion here was just barely enough to call a serving. Pretty disappointed
Also so greedy, bread was not even offered. Pretty unusual these days
Much better value to eat at their sister restaurant “The Chop House” yes, our bill is over $200 eating there but is fantastic everytime
Second time there...first time was very bad experience. This time, food & service was better. However, I was way overcharged on my credit card as compared to my bill! I called and spoke with the manager and he stated he would “take care of it”, but it is highly inconvenient to have that amount of money taken out of my checking account! We will not be back.
The food was authentic and very fresh with excellent creativity and flavor! Will return again and would love to sit in the outdoor patio area next time!
The service we received was above excellent and they were super tentative on all of our needs and questions about the menu.
I was really excited to try to table side Alfredo but my pasta, chicken and sauce arrived cold and it could have used more sauce. We enjoyed the meat and cheese board! My husbands food came out warm. Wine tasting was good and waitress was nice and knowledgeable . Just have had tastier Italian before. It was nice they gave us limoncello shots at the end and take home dessert for our anniversary for free.
Our waitress was slow to respond to us. We told her we wanted to have dessert later after our dinner. Instead, she brings us the check. We took that to mean she wanted us to leave. So, we did. She didn't seem to know much about the menu.
Great time, good food. Jeanette was knowledgeable and friendly.
Great time, will look forward to getting back there with the rest of our family.
Palio was awesome! We chose this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary and we were VERY pleased. The food was delicious, unique and well priced. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. Reservations online make it quick and convenient. Didn't have to hassle with downtown parking as there was a lot right next door. We will definitely be recommending Palio to family and friends and will be going back to dine again soon!
Good food with fresh ingredients. Calamari appetizer was very good. My wife's table side Fettuccine Alfredo was simple, rich and delicious. Our son's Chicken Parm. was well prepared and tasty as well as my Bolongese dish. However, our daughter didn't enjoy the Shrimp Scampi because the wine in the sauce was overbearing for her. Maybe the wine could have been cooked off a little more or a little less added? Didn't really care for the Caesar Salad because they added arugula and a non-typical lighter dressing. We we're told the pasta comes in fresh daily and it was cooked al dente. Overall, it was a good experience and I don't think you'll be disappointed here.
Our dishes were very good -- especially the deserts! Our main knock was that the service was very slow. We were there at 12:30 for lunch and there were only four tables with people at them. However, we did not feel our servers were very attentive and consequently it took over and hour for lunch, not including eating our desserts as we had to take them to go since we ran long. I'd try it again and see if it was just a fluke.
We went for restaurant week. Our server was friendly and helpful. Since we sat outside, there was a little noise from Michigan Street. The food was very good and well priced. I would go again.
Our waitress Andrea was amazing! She had wonderful suggestions and we throughly enjoyed our dinner. The meatballs and Brussel sprout appetizers were delicious as was the chicken Caesar salad and Parmesan crusted white fish!
We love the food....love the reservations portion makes it easy to schedule dinner with several couples. The waitress was very nice but we could tell she was new. We did not let if affect our tip though she worked very hard.
Great place to celebrate my bday! Ending with some sweet Limoncello toast was the best!
Paige, our server was so sweet... al the staff there was very friendly!
Went tonight with my friends and had an excellent time. The food was delicious, service was great, and I love the ambience of the restaurant. Highly recommend!
Awsome service and food ! Place is beautiful inside
Food and service was outstanding. A hidden gem of Grand Rapids.
We were greeted at the door almost instantly. Our table is ready and they accommodated us in a booth that we were quested. Service was wonderful food was delicious it’s a great atmosphere to go to with her to sit at the bar of sit at a booth in the bar area or the dining room. We will be back to visit again. Never disappointed . This visit was with an out-of-town relative and she enjoyed it very much. She is gluten free and they accommodated her very nicely.
Palio was great!!! The food and service was amazing. We had a later reservation and did not feel rushed what so ever. We actually had reservations somewhere else and decided to change them last minute to try this place and we were very happy with that decision. Definitely coming back here in October when I return to GR.
Our first time there. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server suggested an alternative to the wine we were intending to get and her opinion was spot on! The antipasti was original and tasty (burrata). We only had a small pizza (margherita) after that but it was terrific ( great flavor and a thin but chewy crust). Can't wait to go back and try an entre and dessert.
We sat out on the patio and it was totally in the shade, which was good as it was a very hot day. Also it was quiet enough for good conversation. Everyone had something different. I thoroughly enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan. Very crispy on the out side, tender inside. The spaghetti it came with was perfectly al dente. The sauce was very tasty, but I would have liked a little more of it. My son ordered an Oberon, which was warm, so we brought that to our server’s attention. She was apologetic and got him something else. He was satisfied with that. His salmon was excellent, as well as the gnocchi it came with. My daughter ordered the filet, which she said was very good. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, but the server had let her know before placing the order that it now came with potato wedges, which was good to know. Would definitely go back again.
Currently the best Italian food in town. Basics like spaghetti and meat balls and chicken parmigiana are great. Haven't tried much else. Nice wine list
Had a great meal for mother's day, so went back for father's day. What a disappointment! the recipes were different, taste was inconsistent, preparation was different: greasy and uncooked under breading... Sauce was completely different, and UNsavory! Not going back...
Great food, but lack of preparation for reservation, had to wait to be seated because in an empty restedaunt, they still forgot to put together tables for 8. Ordered then waited 1 hour for food, specifically asked for bread but never had it brought to us? Server was fun but forgot things and did not give full change from tab when paid with cash. Overall good food poor service.
Another great dinner! You are missing out if you haven’t tried this restaurant. The table side Alfredo is amazing.
We had 7 of us for dinner & sat outside. Great time and great service!
It was nice to sit outside. Glad that they now have parking.
Our waitress was nice, but inexperienced. Forgot silverware. Even after she brought the appetizers. Had to get up and get it from another table.
They were out of the featured Rose wine. Not acceptable on a Friday at 6:00 pm. Indicates bad planning.
They were out of the grappa our friend wanted. Also not acceptable.
Appetizers were good but presentation of calamari was disappointing.
Risotto was bland.
Caesar salad was underwhelming.
Excellent dinner - food and service was great for an evening out,
Great service by Andrea. Food was delicious, but steak was not cooked as ordered. Nice ambiance. Will definitely go back!
We LOVE this place! Food is great, amazing service
Loud, to many hard surfaces. Hostess was horrible, it's like we were bothering her. She did no know how to smile. Tablet menu to big, heavy. Smaller would be better. Not impressed, won't be back.
i like the atmosphere and the food is generally good, but I ordered a 23.00 fish dish and it was way overdone with the end of it close to black and dry. I was disappointed because I had sortof splurged on it thinking it would be good. Another dish, a chicken with goat cheese was good but quite a small serving. We had the brussel sprout appetizer ... good, but a little sweet with the figs or honey. Our drinks were fine and a shared tiramisu dessert was very good, and large enough to share. it was my second time there and I will be back as I like the atmosphere, and it seemed like the other food was good..
Great meal with always great service
Each time has been a great experience, from the service to the food. Love the atmosphere as well!
Great meal, great service!
I was surprised when I walked into the see the large oven used to cook pizzas. It is a focal point of the restaurant. The food was far better than I anticipated. We were there for Mother's Day and even though we had 5 instead of 4 for our party, they were able to accommodate us easily. We had Paige as our server and she was sweet, helpful, and very efficient. The food was excellent and the value was good. I will come back again.
My children and I had Brunch Reservations at Palio. The first impression left by the hostess was not good. She was not happy to be there and could not have moved slower to prep our table. The menu looked very promising, with many choices that looked delicious. The pizza on the brunch was delicious, very impressed with the complex flavors. I ordered the Eggs Diavalo, which was a smaller portion than expected, but still tasty. My son ordered the spaghetti and meatball off the children’s menu, and it was just ok. We will try Palio again, there were many menu items I’d like to try. Hopefully the Hostess is having a better day next time.
This was our 3rd visit to Palio and the food has always been excellent however the service has been consistently slow. Each time the server apologized for the wait between courses but on one occasion it was 45 minutes between appetizer and the main course. It is clearly an issue with the kitchen because I heard other servers apologizing as well. Don't go there if you are on a schedule or in a rush.
The food at Palio is the reason I keep coming back. I haven’t ever had fantastic service there, but the food makes up for what the service lacks. My go-to place for amazing Italian food!
We were seated very shortly after arriving, which is how a reservation should be so that was great, but after being seated on time, it was over 10 minutes until we were acknowledged by our waitress. Our waitress was a very pretty girl and she knew it and tried to use that to make up for her lack of service. Furthermore, the assistant waiters had no place working in a restaurant, as they had no clue what to do to help their waitress during a busy dinner time.
Food was ok, but didn't make up the for the (lack of) service.
