Palio is an Italian restaurant and bar featuring authentic chef-inspired Tuscan dishes that include large pizzas made from a top of the line stone pizza oven, fettucine, bolognese, carbonara, lasagna, spaghetti and many other re-invented classics prepared with freshly cut herbs from Palio's own in-house herb garden.
Palio is named for the famous horse race that runs through Siena, Italy twice each year. The original Palio Ristorante in Ann Arbor, Michigan, founded in 1991, includes a record of the race's winners on a mural along the back dining room wall. However, Palio is certainly not a chain-restaurant. As a Mainstreet Ventures' distinctive eatery, each Palio brand retains similarities, however, each restaurant is unique in the menu, style, ambiance, food and décor. Palio in Grand Rapids is designed with an intensity that is as wild and colorful as the horse race itself!
Palio is open for both lunch and dinner, and features a happy hour with food and drinks specials.

Had a great meal for mother's day, so went back for father's day. What a disappointment! the recipes were different, taste was inconsistent, preparation was different: greasy and uncooked under breading... Sauce was completely different, and UNsavory! Not going back...

Great food, but lack of preparation for reservation, had to wait to be seated because in an empty restedaunt, they still forgot to put together tables for 8. Ordered then waited 1 hour for food, specifically asked for bread but never had it brought to us? Server was fun but forgot things and did not give full change from tab when paid with cash. Overall good food poor service.

Another great dinner! You are missing out if you haven’t tried this restaurant. The table side Alfredo is amazing.
We had 7 of us for dinner & sat outside. Great time and great service!

It was nice to sit outside. Glad that they now have parking.

Our waitress was nice, but inexperienced. Forgot silverware. Even after she brought the appetizers. Had to get up and get it from another table.

They were out of the featured Rose wine. Not acceptable on a Friday at 6:00 pm. Indicates bad planning.

They were out of the grappa our friend wanted. Also not acceptable.

Appetizers were good but presentation of calamari was disappointing.

Risotto was bland.

Caesar salad was underwhelming.

Loud, to many hard surfaces. Hostess was horrible, it's like we were bothering her. She did no know how to smile. Tablet menu to big, heavy. Smaller would be better. Not impressed, won't be back.

i like the atmosphere and the food is generally good, but I ordered a 23.00 fish dish and it was way overdone with the end of it close to black and dry. I was disappointed because I had sortof splurged on it thinking it would be good. Another dish, a chicken with goat cheese was good but quite a small serving. We had the brussel sprout appetizer ... good, but a little sweet with the figs or honey. Our drinks were fine and a shared tiramisu dessert was very good, and large enough to share. it was my second time there and I will be back as I like the atmosphere, and it seemed like the other food was good..

I was surprised when I walked into the see the large oven used to cook pizzas. It is a focal point of the restaurant. The food was far better than I anticipated. We were there for Mother's Day and even though we had 5 instead of 4 for our party, they were able to accommodate us easily. We had Paige as our server and she was sweet, helpful, and very efficient. The food was excellent and the value was good. I will come back again.

My children and I had Brunch Reservations at Palio. The first impression left by the hostess was not good. She was not happy to be there and could not have moved slower to prep our table. The menu looked very promising, with many choices that looked delicious. The pizza on the brunch was delicious, very impressed with the complex flavors. I ordered the Eggs Diavalo, which was a smaller portion than expected, but still tasty. My son ordered the spaghetti and meatball off the children’s menu, and it was just ok. We will try Palio again, there were many menu items I’d like to try. Hopefully the Hostess is having a better day next time.

This was our 3rd visit to Palio and the food has always been excellent however the service has been consistently slow. Each time the server apologized for the wait between courses but on one occasion it was 45 minutes between appetizer and the main course. It is clearly an issue with the kitchen because I heard other servers apologizing as well. Don't go there if you are on a schedule or in a rush.

The food at Palio is the reason I keep coming back. I haven’t ever had fantastic service there, but the food makes up for what the service lacks. My go-to place for amazing Italian food!

We were seated very shortly after arriving, which is how a reservation should be so that was great, but after being seated on time, it was over 10 minutes until we were acknowledged by our waitress. Our waitress was a very pretty girl and she knew it and tried to use that to make up for her lack of service. Furthermore, the assistant waiters had no place working in a restaurant, as they had no clue what to do to help their waitress during a busy dinner time.

Food was ok, but didn't make up the for the (lack of) service.

The menu looked so promising, yet the experience was bitterly disappointing. Our waiter, Christian, was enthusiastic, but waiting tables is not his calling. He had issues from minute one, not knowing the sangria drink specials and having difficulties explaining items on the menu. We ordered salads and entrees and waited....and waited....and waited! What made it even worse than the ONE HOUR wait was that there were maybe six tables occupied in the entire restaurant and it appeared there were three waiters working! It took a good 20 minutes just to get drinks on the table and then the ONE HOUR between ordering and getting our meal...SALAD and ENTREE coming out together! They were brought out on two different trays by different servers. This after Christian had stopped by our table 10 MINUTES before to state our salads were "being arranged in the kitchen and should be out in TWO SECONDS". When I sarcastically mentioned that the salad and entree were coming out together and there wasn't room on the table for all the dishes, the hostess (or maybe she was the owner, hard to tell) quickly took the tray away and said she'd take care of getting the entrees to us later. Christian then had the gall to say he thought we wanted the salad and entree out together. The salads were good but the entrees a totally different story...but what could we expect when they had been sitting under a heat lamp for the 20 MINUTES in which we ate the salads. The eggplant was like shoe leather -- really one of the most awful dishes I've ever had. The beef dishes were lukewarm and the brown sauce was gelatinous after the heat lamp treatment.

After this snafu with the timing of the salad and dinner, you'd think the owner/manager/waiter would have tried to make up for it, right? Hmm, Christian came by and said he'd deducted a coffee ($2.50) and a half-salad ($3.99) from our meal. This place won't last through the summer - really a horrible experience.

It was easy to lock in a reservation and they were able to sit us immediately (we were a party of 3) which was stellar. Promising start, got our drink orders in and delivered approximately 15 minutes into our visit. We also ordered an app to share as a start and also placed our entree order (we ordered some garlic bread to share). We didn't receive our bread until an 1:15 minutes into our stay and at that point, we were so hungry that we decided to ignore the fact that the garlic bread was cold in the center and ate it anyway (Seems a little ludicrous to wait an hour for 4 pieces of garlic toast). During this time we had only seen our server once asking if we wanted to refill the pitcher of alcohol we has ordered for the table (this was around 40 minutes in). The rest of the time we saw her running around making drink orders and servicing other tables (Our initial introduction had indicated that she was swamped/super busy. Not sure if it was due to insufficient staff requiring that she had to handle more tables/drink orders or something else, but we did see her make an immense amount of drink orders, and we weren't sure if they lacked a bar tender to handle the orders for her). Move ahead about another 30 minutes and our entrees finally arrive (1:45 minutes into our visit). The food was good, albeit a little cool, but not as cool as the bread we had. We decided to opt out of getting a dessert out of fear of how long we could have been left waiting for those to come out. Our sever has now returned with the checks, the first time we have seen her since we placed our orders for the entrees). Was quick to run our cards. Overall she was pleasant when she was actually present to check in on us, but those wait times we unrealistic. Not an establishment I would consider revisiting or recommending after that experience.

Not sure why an Open Table reservation seems to get me the worst table in the place - both times I visited. (Happens often at GR restaurants...?). Had to ask to be seated at one of many available better tables. Sat in bar - great staff, fun time. Food was just ok this time (we all had pasta). Will definitely go back for bar, apps, pizza & staff!

When we walked in, we were very pleased with our seating and the ambiance. Drink/wine selections were pretty great and I loved the idea of a wine flight. However, the food was a different story. Or appetizer came out on time, but it took almost two hours to get our food (even our salads) after some of the tables around us had gotten their food and left. Some second tables even got their food before us. There was no explanation and no accommodation for this inconvenience. The food was okay, but honestly not something to write home about, especially for the price. Our experience was very confusing, especially for how busy the place was. Not sure we'll be back.

The Carbonara was very good, but putting something in a jar and shaking it doesn´t quite seem like table-side peparation, and a bit expensive for pasta.

Service from most everyone was spot on and very enthusiastic! Table service was a bit random and slow- but quality of food and fun bar booth environment made up for it. Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts apps - both spectacular! Pizzas were fantastic- can’t wait to go back to experience more.

Hate the clumsy digital menus!

Our dinner was wonderful! We ordered a lot of different types of dishes - pizza, pasta, fish - and everyone loved their meal. We had good service too. We were almost the only table in the restaurant on a Sunday at 5pm which seemed odd, especially since there was a concert at VanAndel that evening.

This was our third time coming to this restaurant. I really like the ambiance. And the way their menu is (interactive on an iPad) Every meal I've had here is good but not terrific. I think there's a lot of room for improvement in the kitchen. The atmosphere is what brings us back. Parking is limited but there's a hotel next door that allows patrons to park in their ramp. I'd definitely try this place for yourself as everyone has different tastes and expectations when it comes to food.

My friends and I enjoyed a fun dinner together with amazing food. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The Eggplant Parmesan that I ordered was the best I have ever had.
The only reason I don't give an outstanding rating is because there was a large, very loud party a few tables over that sometimes made it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere.
I prefer it quieter when I am enjoying a meal.
