Palio - Grand Rapids
Palio is named for the famous horse race that runs through Siena, Italy twice each year. The original Palio Ristorante in Ann Arbor, Michigan, founded in 1991, includes a record of the race's winners on a mural along the back dining room wall. However, Palio is certainly not a chain-restaurant. As a Mainstreet Ventures' distinctive eatery, each Palio brand retains similarities, however, each restaurant is unique in the menu, style, ambiance, food and décor. Palio in Grand Rapids is designed with an intensity that is as wild and colorful as the horse race itself!
Palio is open for both lunch and dinner, and features a happy hour with food and drinks specials.
Friday & Saturday: 11:30am - 11:00pm;
Sunday: 11:00am - 8:00pm
Our group had a seemingly inexperienced waiter who didn't know what one of the ingredients was in a dish we ordered, but made something incorrect up. He also served one of our friends a burnt pizza. Our brussel sprout and calamari appetizers were fantastic and our drinks were good. It wasn't as good an experience as we've had before, but we'll be back to try it again.
We had a fabulous dinner and the chef prepared something not on the menu for my friend with dietary issues. Customer Service was excellent. I’ll be back.
Food was fabulous! Staff was friendly.
My husband and l split the shaved brussel sprout salad. I never had it before and wasn’t too sure I’d like it, but it was phenomenal! Would totally order it again! It was fresh and crisp. There was crushed crutons in it and the dressing was pefect, not overly dressed. Vinaigrette was flavorful as well. We both ordered pizzas. My Popette (?) pizza was very good. Crush was perfectly done, crusty but not burnt. The meatballs on the menu were larger than what l got on mine, but they were still a good size and very savory. My husband had Italian sausage on his, which had very little flavor. That was disappointing as one would expect really good Italian sausage from an Italian restaurant. It almost looked and tasted like it was made from chicken, rather than pork. That was our only minus from the whole evening. Our server, Luke, was pleasant and attentive. It wasn’t too noisy, we could easily converse with each other. Great night overall.
We love this restaurant! Tried the filet tonight and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Service here is always impeccable and the lemon torte is amazing.
Great food and service. Loved it!
We will definitely return soon.
Great food. Will be back soon!
Food was great. Service was exceptional. BUT! We were seated near the bar and there was a loud and disruptive customer that was very intoxicated and we had to listen to him throughout our entire meal. My husband and I were out for a nice evening and it was somewhat ruined by this patrons behavior. He should have been neutralized by management.
I don't usually complain, but I just have to note this, in hopes some things come together. I want all of our local business to do well, so here it goes. Very basic things are needed. When a hosted doesn't smile at all, if puts people off right away. I noticed it was just us, but whom ever she interacted with, you could not get a smile out of that women. Who knows, I always give the benefit of the doubt, things happen. But...... This is a service position, and customers deserve welcoming. Other than that, I could tell our waiter was new at this, but he really tried. I appreciate the effort. The food was good, loved the Bolognese. Almost as good as mine! The strawberry limoncello sangria was wonderful.
Great place to eat for our special occasion. The pizza oven is a must.
Had my Birthday dinner with my adult children last evening, this was my first experience eating here. We had a great time, great food, and great service, we will definitely be back again.
Great food in a great atmosphere. Drinks from the bar were a little slow.
I came for lunch mid week, the restaurant was not busy. However, it took over an hour for a salad and water. Our server was pleasant but very poor service. I will not be back again.
A while ago I posted a not-so-positive review about Palio, I think it was on Google. Anyway, they not only improved but exceeded our expectations for last night's dinner.
This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants, and I reserved a table for us to celebrate her Birthday. Added a note asking for a single rose on the table, and a small card with a message.
They had our table reserved, a beautiful rose, and a gorgeous Happy Birthday card, beautifully handwritten!!
Everyone was kind and attentive. They made every one of us feel as if we were the center of their business that night, and especially my wife, of course.
Our waiter was Kedediah (I hope I spelled it right), he did an amazing job.
Oh, and the food! It was delicious! Any item you choose from their menu, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
For dessert we shared a Tiramisú, it was like a piece of Heaven.
My wife's dinner was on the house. Yes, not only the glass of prosecco for our first toast, or the limoncello with the dessert, but her entire meal was on them. A 30% discount.
We left a tip we thought adequate, calculated on the total, not the final amount.
We'll be back, as often as we can!
Thank you for making everyone happy!
Service was much better than the first time we were here. Food was pretty good, seemed to be freshly prepared. I still hate their "iPad" menus. Difficult to navigate and quickly flip to something you had just looked at. Also very antisocial and screens are bright and distracting. I don't want to stare at a screen when out for dinner with my wife after doing so all day.
We were pleased with the ambiance and the food. The service was good.
Usually perfect from start to finish. This time, the much anticipated Pollo Moustarda was disappointing. A genius combination of flavors could not hide the very dry, chewy chicken. Friend's shrimp pasta was perfectly prepared. A very busy server didn't swing by in time for me to send dish back. When she did find out chicken was overcooked (the sear marks looked like it had been heated on the flat top - maybe reheated?), she informed the manager and he graciously comped dessert. Would have preferred tender, juicy chicken, but have had so many excellent meals, we will return.
Another fabulous meal at Palio. Andrea, our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Our friends like it a lot and we will be going back soon.
Service was great. Food was delicious! Loved everything about this place!
Andrea was great! Second time we had her and she remembered us from before. Very personable and friendly. Love the table side Alfredo!
We ate here before broadway Grand Rapids. We had a wonderful meal and service.
We really enjoyed our meal at Palio. It was a bit noisy. It's hard to find quiet restaurants anymore, but we were with someone with hearing problems, and it was challenging for them. The chairs are SUPER noisy when you pull them out. You may want to put some felt or something under them. Even for me, who is not hearing impaired, it was very challenging.
Excellent food. Service was good. Excellent presentation and great location!
I will go back.
Requested high top seating in reservation. Instead, was sat in a back room away from the main restaurant and bar. Service EXTREMELY slow from start to finish. Server and overall restaurant seemed overwhelmed.
BARELY Average at best!
I really wanted to like Palio as we could use a new good restaurant. Prices were as to be expected for an excellent restaurant but the food was FAR from excellent. The chicken parm was cooked to a rubbery texture and tasted as if it were a leftover from the night before and reheated. The portions were half the size one would get at any comperable restaurant. I usually eat less than half my meal at most places but the portion here was just barely enough to call a serving. Pretty disappointed
Also so greedy, bread was not even offered. Pretty unusual these days
Much better value to eat at their sister restaurant “The Chop House” yes, our bill is over $200 eating there but is fantastic everytime
Second time there...first time was very bad experience. This time, food & service was better. However, I was way overcharged on my credit card as compared to my bill! I called and spoke with the manager and he stated he would “take care of it”, but it is highly inconvenient to have that amount of money taken out of my checking account! We will not be back.
The food was authentic and very fresh with excellent creativity and flavor! Will return again and would love to sit in the outdoor patio area next time!
The service we received was above excellent and they were super tentative on all of our needs and questions about the menu.
I was really excited to try to table side Alfredo but my pasta, chicken and sauce arrived cold and it could have used more sauce. We enjoyed the meat and cheese board! My husbands food came out warm. Wine tasting was good and waitress was nice and knowledgeable . Just have had tastier Italian before. It was nice they gave us limoncello shots at the end and take home dessert for our anniversary for free.
Our waitress was slow to respond to us. We told her we wanted to have dessert later after our dinner. Instead, she brings us the check. We took that to mean she wanted us to leave. So, we did. She didn't seem to know much about the menu.
Great time, good food. Jeanette was knowledgeable and friendly.
Great time, will look forward to getting back there with the rest of our family.
Palio was awesome! We chose this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary and we were VERY pleased. The food was delicious, unique and well priced. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. Reservations online make it quick and convenient. Didn't have to hassle with downtown parking as there was a lot right next door. We will definitely be recommending Palio to family and friends and will be going back to dine again soon!
Good food with fresh ingredients. Calamari appetizer was very good. My wife's table side Fettuccine Alfredo was simple, rich and delicious. Our son's Chicken Parm. was well prepared and tasty as well as my Bolongese dish. However, our daughter didn't enjoy the Shrimp Scampi because the wine in the sauce was overbearing for her. Maybe the wine could have been cooked off a little more or a little less added? Didn't really care for the Caesar Salad because they added arugula and a non-typical lighter dressing. We we're told the pasta comes in fresh daily and it was cooked al dente. Overall, it was a good experience and I don't think you'll be disappointed here.
Our dishes were very good -- especially the deserts! Our main knock was that the service was very slow. We were there at 12:30 for lunch and there were only four tables with people at them. However, we did not feel our servers were very attentive and consequently it took over and hour for lunch, not including eating our desserts as we had to take them to go since we ran long. I'd try it again and see if it was just a fluke.
We went for restaurant week. Our server was friendly and helpful. Since we sat outside, there was a little noise from Michigan Street. The food was very good and well priced. I would go again.
Our waitress Andrea was amazing! She had wonderful suggestions and we throughly enjoyed our dinner. The meatballs and Brussel sprout appetizers were delicious as was the chicken Caesar salad and Parmesan crusted white fish!
We love the food....love the reservations portion makes it easy to schedule dinner with several couples. The waitress was very nice but we could tell she was new. We did not let if affect our tip though she worked very hard.
Great place to celebrate my bday! Ending with some sweet Limoncello toast was the best!
Paige, our server was so sweet... al the staff there was very friendly!
Went tonight with my friends and had an excellent time. The food was delicious, service was great, and I love the ambience of the restaurant. Highly recommend!
Awsome service and food ! Place is beautiful inside
Food and service was outstanding. A hidden gem of Grand Rapids.
