Since 1990, Palio d’Asti has thrived as San Francisco’s favorite downtown Italian Restaurant by offering a seasonally changing menu, professional European service, a Wine Spectator recognized wine list and a premium bar. Private Dining Options for groups of 8-350.
View Private Dining DetailsFood was fabulous! Martino, the owner, is attentive and charming. You will love this place!
This is one of my favorite places to eat when I’m In SFO.
The food is excellent. Staff are very engaging and helpful.
They have a very good wine selection.
Went with the whole family including grandkids. Staff were welcoming and patient with kids. The food was fine. The Friti and pea ravioli were outstanding. Looking forward to the next visit.
Good place for big groups. Very attentive. Bread and water were refilled often. Good assortment for vegetarians and they were accommodating with dietary restrictions.
I've enjoyed Palio d'Asti over the years for well-prepared, authentic Italian food, but my last visit was disappointing, as the spaghetti carbonara was over-cooked and anything but al dente. Service was still responsive and friendly and the location attractive, but the kitchen needs some attention.
We were hoping for a romantic Italian dinner. Unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed in this place, with both the food and the wine by the glass selections. If you don’t mind ridiculously small portions of food that tastes like it came out of the freezer or a can (his “large” portion of ravioli was about 8 shriveled squares, and my “large” pasta came in a portion the size of my fist...I actually asked if it was the large portion), or if you don’t mind the clientele wearing baseball caps backwards, or if you don’t mind a restaurant that’s nearly completely empty at 8pm on a Saturday night (which means everyone but you knows you shouldn’t be there), then by all means, enjoy. It’s certainly not a place for foodies, so you’d better REALLY love the company.
Their meat sauce tastes the same as my native Italian grandmother's receipe! Fabulous! The veal meatballs are flavorful & moist. If you want something decadent, try the walnut pesto gnocchi. The gnocchi melts in your mouth.
This is an exceptional dining experience without pretensions. You can conduct business meals and gatherings of friends with both comfort and enjoyment.
Two hour plus service, and we didn’t order dessert- on a Tuesday night. 6:45 reservation and we didn’t get out til after 9.
Food was so-so.
Spuntini platter not particularly worth the price.
Pastas were very good, entrees only meh. Again, all was overpriced.
Wine selection mediocre. Kept trying to up-sell us.
Food was cold. Terrible lobster ravioli and a margarita pizza is a thick cheese pizza.
My boyfriend and I celebrated our Valentine’s dinner at Palio d’Asti and were left immensely satisfied! My boyfriend is a bit on the picky side (all he wanted that night was some good old fashioned spaghetti) and our server was able to deliver EXACTLY what he wanted, without any fusses or restrictions. The ambience was calm, the aesthetics were beautiful, and the service exceeded our expectations. We will definitely keep Palio on our Date Night Restaurant List!
Very mediocre food. I was not particularly impressed by the food.
Do not order vegetarian dish. Bland, unimaginative.
Went here for a business dinner because I remembered this restaurant to be good. I don't know if it's the day or what, but the service was not on par as what it used to be. The food was meh to bad. Our pasta was undercooked. The other entrees ordered was overcooked. The restaurant wasn't packed, but it was near impossible to get service becaue our waiter was MIA. Will not be coming back.
We went because of Sf Restaurant week. They had an amazing three course meal with lots of choices and our waiter was just the best. We shall return!
The service was super slow and the restaurant was not busy. He seemed to be completely uninterested in us. The food was nothing special and frankly bland. I would not recommend nor will I return.
Nice nigh and nice food
Celebrated the New Year with family. The food was excellent, the staff and service was fantastic as well.
I have dined at Palio d´Asti quite a few times in the past. I am disappointed to see that the quality of some plates has declined: very thick pork chop was cooked through without much flavor. The large white beans that accompanied it were, to my taste, uninteresting in both taste and appearance. The kale salad was tasty. The mortadella pizza was the best dish we had. The pannetone bread pudding and its miniature scoop of ice cream was nothing special. I will have to search for a more satisfying restaurant.
Meal for 3 was 500.00!!! Moderately priced wine. Felt like a cafeteria line of food. Had exceptional meals in san Francisco for 1/2 this cost.
Feast Of The Seven Fishes was a delicious and festive Christmas Eve dinner
Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes was amazing!
Positives:
-Great authentic Italian food
-Good wine and cheese
-Good service, responsive waiters
Only negative: Noisy (though we did not try the more enclosed section)
Stopped by for some pizza and a break from the Christmas shopping. Excellent service, great thin crust pizza and a lovely bottle of Italian red.
Great service ensuring that our twelve people and two babies had a relaxing evening of food and drink. Don't expect michelin stars, but my Branzino was as good and I only heard happy eating sounds from the foodies in the crowd. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised with the bill. Great place for family get togethers in the heart of the financial district.
Food was great. Service good. Much too noisy for me.
Palio d'Asti never disappoints! Good food, great service.
Excellent. Found the place on open table. Very pleased.
Perfect place for a large group party w a beautiful setting. Warm professional and patent staff ... Our group was buzy catching up ... Wait staff was understanding. Food was pretty good as usual. We had 3 holiday parties here becuase ... Capacity, food, ambiance, noise level (mature low key adults ... Rare these days).
I had the split pea soup, and it was marvelous. Like the pastas and salads Waiters are friendly, place was crowded, lots of energy.
Lovely room. Dignified service. Solid standard Italian fare.
This is a wonderful restaurant in the financial district of San Francisco. I've been going to Palio's for 17 years. Great food and wonderful staff.
Food was VERY cold - beef gravy on turkey. Service was slow. Don’t know what their usual Italian food is like but DON’T GO FOR THANKSGIVING - it was a bust !!
Horrible Food.
Very slow service on thanksgiving day. Food was just okay. We should of tried Italian food on normal day.
We frequently go here because you will always be happy with the restaurant!
Great atmosphere and Martino is an amazing host. We had a large group which made it difficult for 1 waiter to manage but great job all round and very good food.
Always a great place to take clients. The food is fantastic and the service is top notch! Palio d'Asti is my go to spot for sure.
Not flashy. Not hip. Rather, a very solid Italian restaurant where the everyone will leave well fed and happy.
Have been enjoying dinner here since 1990. Great Italian food. Wonderful, friendly service. We love Palio.
