One of our dinner guests remarked as we were leaving ... “I wonder what this place will be next?”
Our overall experience as a first visit was average. We arrived for a 6 p.m. reservation knowing that the restaurant had already been open for an hour. When we arrived, we were met by the owners/chef, but neither introduced themselves nor welcomed us as first time visitors, which was disappointing. Chef did stop by the table later during our meal, but seemed a little uncomfortable until my husband asked a pointed question about his dish, after which Chef became more jovial. Upon being seated, the staff was loudly - within 10 feet of our table - still figuring out what tables they had, which seemed odd, given that the restaurant had been open for a while. Our server, Michael, was sweet & very friendly, but seemed to hover at times, & had a tendency to over-share, making us a little uncomfortable. We ordered the arinchini as an appetizer, & it was yummy! That said, we had barely begun enjoying the appetizer when Michael stopped by to say he had checked on our entre order & it should be out momentarily ~ again , a little off-putting. The food overall was good, but not the best Italian food we've had. We are sincerely offering these comments as constructive criticism & hope they will be taken as such.
We chose this new restaurant to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary because we just traveled to Italy and were hoping to find some authentic Italian food in Louisville finally. The food did not disappoint but the service was terrible. We had a reservation at 7:30 and when making it were asked if it was a special occasion, so they new it was our anniversary. We were seated immediately but did not get water or anything for at least 20 minutes. Our food order was not taken until our wine bottle was almost empty 40 minutes later. They apologized and said they would give us a free dessert but when we still didn’t have food 30 minutes later we asked for the manager. They ended up not charging us for anything but our wine but it certainly did not make up for ruining our anniversary evening that we had planned.
Made reservation for my husband and daughter and myself. I have to say the food was terrible. My chicken Parmesan was so tough I could not cut into it, like cardboard and it was served with some type of curly pasta which was inedible and had no sauce of any kind, very undercooked and dry. My husband had bologese served with a wide thick pasta with no sauce. My daughter had scallops which were ok but served over dark grey pasta. We will never return because of food quality. The server was excellent though and wine was reasonably priced.
Young untrained waiter, 3 out of 5 dishes had no flavor, bolonaise had 2 tablespoons of Sauder the scallops were ok and the black pasta had no taste snd room temperature. Very disappointing! Sent an email to GM and no response which is even more disappointing. Won’t go back!
Very classy and enjoyable service and ambiance. Food was delicious but in small portions. Would definitely recommend for the experience.
This is a mixed review! The food at Palatuccis is wonderful. Everything was well prepared and tasty. The salmon was the best I have ever had. The service was among the worst I have ever seen. Our server was not conversant on the menu, was disorganized and annoying. Our food and drinks came out erratically if at all. Bread offered only after we had all started out entrees. The couple next to us left in a huff after asking multiple times for the dessert menu which never appeared.
The ambiance-It was a hot day however the restaurant was uncomfortably cold and air blew hard on all four of us and it was a relief to get outside in the heat again. The decor was okay however all of the blinds on the windows were closing giving the restaurant the impression of a cave!
The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly!
Unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant and won't visit again until their service is majorly improved.
I took my mother there for her birthday which was in the reservation. It was never mentioned. We were one of 3 tables in the restaurant. We seemed at times to be forgotten or at best an afterthought. We ordered an appetizer and ate it. And waited and waited. The server came and cleared the appetizer dishes and we asked if our entrees were about ready. The server replied" um um O I'll go check on those." And we waited and waited some more. It seemed like she had forgot to put them in. When we got the entrees they were just Luke warm and not much sauce. My mother's pasta dish was pretty dry and had very little meat that was listed in the menu description. When the food came we asked for some parm. The server gave us a few swipes with the grater above each plate and was off. We didn't see her again till she brought the check. We left very disappointed.
We came to send off our youngest child to the service. We had a very nice dinner in a quiet upstairs room. We certainly appreciated it all.
Megan(the bartender) was wonderful. She took great care of us. If not for her, we most definitely would have left. The food was mediocre. Not bad, but certainly not worth the price. We had a reservation at 5:45. Got there at 5:47. We were stopped at the door by the male owner and asked if we had a reservation or were sitting in the bar. Immediately we felt judged. He then asked us to go upstairs and get a drink while he tried to get us a table(mind you there were MANY open tables). We never heard another word from him. He never apologized for not having a table. Nothing. Finally Megan just told us she would take care of us and we ate in the bar. Very disappointing interaction with the male owner. The female(I believe her name was Tamara) was very friendly. Overall very disappointed. Will not be back. Megan was absolutely wonderful, however and wish her the ABSOLUTE best!!!
Everything was great from appetizers to dessert. I was particularly fond of the fresh pasta, the serving size was actually enough to fill me up. The owner/chef stopped by and made everyone feel very welcome. This fills a needed spot in Louisville for a great neighborhood Italian restaurant.
Meal was good but not great. Prices were reasonable, service was friendly. I might give it one more try to see
We were excited to try this new Italian restaurant. We got off to a rocky start when we waited for nearly 15 minutes (and had to flag down a server) to get water and initial contact with someone. The service really didn't get much better from there with our server being unfamiliar with the menu and not seeming to care.
The food was hit and miss. The Caesar salad promised Little Gem lettuce...it was standard romaine. The arancini was really good, though. My pasta, the simple Maccheroni alla Chitarra, was sub-par....really bland. Once I added red pepper flakes, salt, and grated Parmesan cheese it was okay. The homemade pasta, itself, was good.
We were offered limoncello by the chef but that never came. While some around us seemed to be getting good service, our party of four did not. I don't see a need to return.
Oh, and to pay $5 for valet when there is ample parking right behind the restaurant is a little annoying.
Service was not good. Had to ask for water several times. Watched the owner hand a bottle of wine to a customer to open. Didn’t instill much confidence. Meal was ok but not up to standards of price charged.
Really enjoyed the food and experience!
Chef/ owner greeted us and was very nice. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. One of the best Italian restuarants in Louisville
We enjoyed our evening! The owner/chef comped us with a free dessert due to delays with one of our entrees.
Our food was excellent. The crostini Tuscano was wonderful. My wife and I shared a wonderful Caesar salad. We both had pasta dishes that were well prepared and the fresh pasta was wonderful. For dessert we had the house special Budino which is well worth the trip to try.
Our only drawback was the service. While it was competent we felt hurried and rushed. Our salad arrived just ahead of our appetizer and we still had not received the bottle of wine we asked for. Next time I think I would order one course at a time to slow things down to truly enjoy the wonderful meal.
The ambience and food was amazing. We can’t wait to come back. We had the cheese board to start and was one of the best we’ve had. My wife had the veal and I had the meatballs. We finished with the boudin dessert. Can’t say enough about this place.
This was our second visit and we tried the house made pastas this time—excellent! Service was attentive but not intrusive. Table visit by owner/chef, explaining the family history of the recipes was a nice touch. Looking forward to trying the new menu tweaks on a future visit. (Keep the butterscotch pudding with salted caramel—it was awesome!)
The food is just amazing!
Food was quite good but the service is not ready for prime time. The greeter was confused, drinks went to wrong people and had to wait a long time for ours, server would disappear for some time. On the plus side, everyone was friendly, delicious focaccia was brought out right away and the pasta was hot and delicious. Valet parking is annoying, because they’ve reserved their entire parking lot for it. I would give the place another try after they have time to resolve the service issues.
We really wanted to like this restaurant. Our server was friendly - but very slow. The drinks were late - came after the salads - one of which she forgot. Plates weren’t cleared. Entrees took a long, long time. The to go box never arrived. The food was fine - but it really was the slow, uneven service that was a disappointment. We were on the upper deck and she said they were slammed in the main restaurant- but when we left it was not even half filled.
Palatucci’s is pretty new, so go with the knowledge that they’re still figuring things out. If you do, you’ll be rewarded with a lovely time. The food was very good and the staff is very personable. Don’t skip dessert, particularly the Budino. We are looking forward to going back!
Service was very slow , with numerous excuses that there were not enough servers or kitchen workers. My pasta was chewy and not fully cooked but the sauce was excellent. Servings were on the skimpy side, considering the price. A free dessert was offered "for our trouble" and that's what we got-one dessert for three people to share. Altogether, our experience was one of dealing with amateurs. In a city full of excellent Italian restaurants I don't expect Palatucci's to last long.
Our second time here! Wanted our friends to experience the wonderful food and friendliness.
Spoke with Chef Richard quite a bit. Our sever Justice was wonderful. A few little glitches as things got busier but nothing serious. You could tell everyone was working hard to make the evening work.
The appetizers are wonderful, the bread, the olives the rice balls. Their version of chicken parm is my husband’s favorite in town. The homemade pasta is cooked al dente (Maybe a tad too hard), the sauce and the meatballs delicious.
Great wine selection, nice pour. Fun cocktails.
This time we sat upstairs, it got a bit warm as the evening went on. But lately even our cars are having a hard time keeping up!!😉
Everyone here is really trying and are eager to please. Be patient, sit back and enjoy!
This is a new Italian restaurant. The food is wonderful and authentic. Our server, Michael was new and checked on us a little too often but he was very kind and accommodating. Initially, the room was quite chilly but the chef/owner came out to greet tables and had the AC turned off. A good experience and we will give it another go as the menu is getting ready to undergo some additions.
The night got off to a rough start when we were seated by the owner who then inexplicably did not assign a server to our table. As our party of four sat and looked at each other, we saw other tables being seated and served with menus and water. After I flagged down a server, the rest of the night proceeded much better. The wine list was fairly short but luckily included one gem, a Rosso di Montalcino from a most excellent Tuscan producer, Donatella Cinelli Colombini, and reasonably priced at $50.
The olive and focaccia appetizer was delicious and a bargain. The Caesar salad was well prepared. Entrees enjoyed by others at our table included the tagliatelle alla Bolognese, the Paglia Fieno Straw and Hay, and the Tagliata beef tenderloin. I ordered the Sugo al’Amatriciana. I felt the pasta needed to be cooked a bit longer to even reach al dente, but the sauce was flavorful and spicy with a little heat.
We all agreed that we would be willing to return.
We tried Palatucci's after meeting the chef out one evening. He promised authentic Italian cuisine from his family's recipes including fresh pasta every day. It was outstanding! From the appetizers to the divine desserts. We tried almost all the appetizers...don't miss the meatballs... and all the pastas. Every dish was superbly prepared and the fresh pasta was on point! Don't miss this restaurant!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Palatucci's Italian American Ristorante Friday night! We ate on the upstairs patio - PERFECT weather. Amazing live singer. And the food!!!
* Polpi Meatballs
* Crostino Toscana
* Paglia e Fieno "Straw & Hay"
* Sugo All Amatraciana
Fresh made pasta. Family recipes - some going back 3 generations. Amazing atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend!!!
Loved the atmosphere. Menu changed from what was online. Wait staff responsive and friendly. New..... didn’t know the menu. Seems in organized.... 3 hours. Looking for simple menu flat bread, pizza. A little fussy.
Second time eating at this place and it was so much better. The sauce with my pasta was perfect. They did however have a shortage on wine. So we had to sub with a more expensive bottle to pair but it was tasty too.
We had an excellent dinner. The environment was nice, the staff was friendly and helpful. Great food and the chef came ti visit wearing a Dr. John reminiscent psychedelic jacket. Just a few kinks from learning a new site and new staff. We will be back!
Wonderful from start to finish! Had a phone call from Rick confirming our reservation. Loved the ambiance and feel of the entire restaurant.
Our service started out slow, but then was perfect. We had cocktails and two appetizers. Highly recommend the cheese board and the olives.
Our meals (spaghetti and meatballs, salmon, pasta with asparagus, and chicken parmigiana) were all excellent.
We will return. Pleasure to meet chef Richard and his lovely wife. Thanks to Richard’s brother for telling us about this place!
The food ambience and service was good . However I was disappointed with the limited choices on the menu. I suspect this will only improve with time .
Delicious homemade pasta was enjoyed by our party of three. We tried all of the pastas on the limited menu (due to recent opening) and thought they were cooked to perfection and have wonderful flavors.
Food was excellent. First night open so servers still learning. Look forward to giving them another shot.
The decor and ambiance were outstanding--equally wonderful for a romantic dinner for two or a fun evening with friends. Upscale feel with very reasonable prices and a good wine list. The crostini and arancini appetizers we shared were both delicious, and the caesar salad was really good. Hubby would have preferred a more robust dressing than the lemony vinaigrette on his salad, but the greens were very fresh and crisp (we'll switch next time). His chicken parmigiana was wonderful and a very generous portion. My chicken piccata was very flavorful, but a tiny bit overdone. Service was attentive, though a tad slow, but it was grand opening night, so understandable as things settle into a groove. A huge "grazie" to Chef Britney for taking the time on this grand opening evening to create a fabulous birthday dessert for hubby!
I've already recommended Palatucci's to several friends and we'll definitely be back--there's a huge array of pasta dishes that need to be tried!
Opening night Kentucky Oaks special dinner - food was superb, chef/owner made rounds telling his story , directly from the Grisati family, looking forward to discovering their regular menu as they settle in, highly recommend a visit.
