Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been here a few times and I absolutely love it. I first had their cauliflower tacos and I fell in love, but they took it off the menu. At my last visit, I asked for the tacos and they made it happen. I will gladly go back and will tell all my friends to check it out! ☺️
Paladar always has good reasonably priced food for the area. Our waiter was attentive and courteous. This place is great for lunch as it is more quiet then and you can talk. If you like it more lively, come on a weekend evening. I been here many times and we've never had any bad food. I recommend as 2 thumbs up.
What a nice surprise!! A group of us ate here before a Strathmore event. No one drank because we all had to drive, but the bar menu is phenomenal and the idea of tasting sizes of rum is brilliant; we'll definitely try that one night because we will be going back here. The food menu read fine, but in fact the dishes arrived with more creativity and flavor than we had anticipated, and nicely presented as well. The restaurant is very large, so there were large booths for families and groups, plus the bar, plus outdoor tables, plus traditional tables. Prices were very reasonable; parking in the garage across the street was easy and free. Looking forward to a return visit and happy to have this nearby.
The wife and I came for our Friday date night and we were very happy with our meal. We got there at 6:30 and enjoyed several happy hour drinks and appetizers. Service was great and we sat outside for our meal. We have been here several times and have always had a great experience.
Food was good! I had the Jamaican jerk chicken with rice and kale. Needed to be a little spicier. Service was decent but waiter was too quick to run off without making sure everything we needed was taken care of, so we had to wait for him to return quite a few times.
Good & varied menu. Can be very uneven service. They bring appetizers without plates, napkins or silverware and are surprised you ask for them. Can wait a long time until they check in on you once served. Some dishes are a home run and others can disappoint, even if you have ordered before. Their kitchen can be uneven.
We went on Mojito Specials night, and enjoyed sampling the various flavors. We came too late to enjoy the Happy Hour food specials, so we ordered Jerk Chicken and Chicken Salad with peanuts from the Chef's Specials. Both were excellent. Our only disappointment was that someone at our end of the bar wanted to watch a poker tournament rather than the baseball All Star Game, so we missed the first half of this once-a-year event.
This was my first visit. I had two margaritas, made exactly as I had requested them, and the ceviche. I'd like to return, and get a better sense of the Latin American food served here. I was with a group, and rarely dine in Montgomery County. However, if I'm in the area again at dinnertime, would gladly return.
I want to really like this place, since server was polite and friendly. Had to send my wife's Cuban sandwich back due to being cold. My skirt steak was average at best; tough and chewy. The joint was about 25% full for Sunday dinner, which surprised me. Disappointed.
I love the neighborhood friendly feel of this place. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the usual dining scene in Bethesda and Rockville. There is also complimentary parking. Best of all, we love the food. There is quite a choice on the menu. The guacamole is our go to appetizer. We hope to visit again in the near future.
I love this place! The food is delicious (especially the plantains!), and I like that they offer more than just tortilla chips with their salsa (they have taro and plantain chips, too!). The restaurant is huge, so you usually don't have to worry about a wait or finding a table/seat. The people who work there are friendly, but the service tends to be somewhat slow. Make sure to download the Thanx app before you go so you can get free guacamole on your first trip!
The food was truly superb. It was beyond fresh and the balance of flavors in everything was remarkable. I rarely leave feedback, but I truly loved the food. They were severely understaffed and we cleared our own table to allow space for the next course. We could hear the manager screaming at her wait staff near the kitchen area, which I found extremely inappropriate. These issues aside, the food was outstanding and I would return.
Not an enjoyable evening at all. The food was really good, but that's about it. Our server, Ronald, might have been the worst waiter I've had in any restaurant, ever. He just couldn't be bothered with our table at all. It was a good five minutes before he showed up to take our drink order, and then he disappeared for 10 minutes before we saw him again, and he didn't have our drinks. Finally the bartender brought them over, still no Ron. We sat and waited while Ron poked his head out from the kitchen, but never even looked in our direction. Another waiter must've seen how anxious we were getting and stopped by to ask if everything was ok, and HE ended up taking our order. Ron continued like that the rest of the night, we'd see him walking around, he wouldn't stop by our table or even look in our direction, and then we wouldn't see him. Our reservation was for 6, we finally got our entrees after 7, more than a FULL HOUR later (with a kid) by a runner, still no Ron, he neither brought our food nor checked on us after. And the restaurant was pretty empty, on Mother's Day, which should've tipped us off. As I mentioned the food was truly delicious, especially the guac, but the meal was kind of expensive for what it was. Drinks were poured with a very heavy hand, which some might appreciate, but it was a little much. To get waters we had already asked Ron for, we had to stop him as he tried to walk past our table. Same with the check, same to get the check corrected, same to get him to pick up the paid bill. We asked him for boxes, other waiters brought their tables boxes and closed them up for diners with stickers, ours were just dropped at our table as he walked past. Hopefully he was just having an off night, or needs a lot more training, but it totally turned us off and ruined the evening. Maybe we'll try their Downtown Crown location, we've heard good things from there; but if I'm going to drop $130 on tacos for 4, I expect the waiter to give a darn.
