They need to cut down on their salt. I ordered the Parpadelle
Bolognese beef ragu with sundried tomatoes and parmigiano cheese. It was so salty I couldn't finish it. I also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts ..... so salty again, let the ingredients speak for themselves.
Pala has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I've celebrated birthdays, girls night out, and even my engagement there. I've been struggling with Pala the last two trips, and honestly, this was my last dinner there. The gluten free pizza crust is delicious, and that has definitely gotten better. But other than the service, which was outstanding, it was all very subpar. The calamari appetizer was good, but lacked flavor. The tomato sauce used to be noticeably homemade and delicious. This time, it seemed to be straight out of a jar. I ordered a GF vegan eggplant pizza. It was so saturated in oil, that the whole crust and my hands were covered in it. The eggplant was supposed to be sautéed but it seemed deep fried and super oily. My friend enjoyed her regular crust buffalo mozzarella pizza, but she also said it was a bit mushy. Lastly the signature cocktails are insanely small, and way overpriced. $14 for a couple of sips, not worth it. This place has gradually gotten more and more expensive I've noticed, yet the quality has been sacrificed. My friend enjoyed her dessert, but my vegan carrot cake was not good. Very weird texture and the frosting tasted like it was commercially made about a week ago. For $130+ bill (for two), it definitely wasn't worth it. The server whose name I wish I remembered was once again amazing. Other than that, very disappointed In Pala, I won't be returning.
The first time I went here, I had just wandered in off the street, and ever since I can't get enough! This is the first place I've found that does Gluten Free Fried Calamari, and it's absolutely delicious. Not to mention the pizza, which they are very good with making sure things stay Gluten Free. The cocktails are decent, and I don't really have any complaints!
Food was ok but some of the dishes like the pasta and starters were definitely not value for money. Pizza and desert was good.
Took ages to get served (ended up being served by the bar man who was lovely); but the other main waiter was very rude and didnt seem to want to associate with us at all.
Good gluten free options but don't think I'd go back.
Classic Dishes done right. We took out our daughter and had pizza margarita with ham and spaghetti meatballs. That may sound simple but it doesn't do justice to how fresh and well done this was. There are more adventurous dishes so we'll try those when it's just my wife and I.
While I will say my friends and I very much enjoyed the food here, the service was TERRIBLE. I'm not one to usually ever write a bad review unless it requires. We didn't have to wait long for our table and were quickly seated and we liked the area of our table, however, our waiter was a douchebag. For example, we asked if they provided complimentary bread with the meal (like MOST Italian restaurants do) and he looked at us and said the pizza has enough bread we don't serve additional bread (with an attitude). We were only asking so we know what sort of appetizers to order. We go on to order the food (again food was delicious) and we ordered the sprouts and potato chips. After receiving our order of chips, we enjoyed them so much we asked for another order and they never brought it...night goes on and our check comes and the waiter says oh by the way sorry our credit card machine isn't working we're cash only and you should've seen the 2 signs on the door, THIS IS SOMETHING they should've told us before seating us....we never wouldn't came here....absolutely ridiculous service and he (again with his douchebag attitude) says oh there's an ATM a block away. My friend and I got the cash came back and paid. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone, i'm sorry as much as I enjoyed your food, the service was SO SO bad and there are way more restaurants in NYC for my friends and I to dine at, thanks but I'm not okay with being treated in a disrespectful manner while out with friends.
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in New York! We original found this gem through searching for safe gluten free food for our kids who have celiac disease, but the atmosphere, friendly staff and deliciously different pizzas keep us coming back and bringing new friend. Everybody can eat well here whether you have no dietary restrictions and just love good pizza, or you need a place that can cope with food allergies, celiac disease, vegan or vegetarian ... everyone will be happy.
This restaurant makes me so happy. I don't have gluten issues, but I have friends who do. The gluten-free pizza is amazing--you'd never know it was gluten-free. I'm also not usually a fan of kale, but the kale salad was delicious. Finished off the night with a really tasty gluten-free carrot cake--again, it was so good, I don't know how they do it without wheat. Sadly, the AC was broken on a super-hot day, but they compensated with a free glass of prosecco, and the staff, who had to have been incredibly uncomfortable, could not have been any nicer. This was my third or fourth visit, and I haven't been disappointed yet.
