We highly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent and we haven’t had a bad meal after numerous visits.
Food was delicious! Menu offers a lot of diversity and gives you options from soup and salad to delicious main (and vegetarian) entrees and a crepe suzette to die for!
The food and service was excellent.
From the attentive servers, timely delivery of our orders, delicious food, cheerful and accommodating staff, PDA has never disappointed. I loved the beet carpaccio (yes, beet) the most
For a special dinner, Pain d'Avignon is the place. It's also the place for a casual lunch.
We came here for our anniversary dinner last evening. We had planned to go somewhere else a bit further away but decided to stay close to home. We got seated right away. It took a while for our waiter to come over and take our drink order. We decided on a bottle of wine. When he came back 15-20 minutes later he gave us dirty wine glasses that had dried red wine and dark purple spots on them like they had never been cleaned. It was a huge turn off from the start. We both ordered the sirloin which wasn't the best quality. Cooked ok but chewy. The waiter never cleared our pile of bread plates until I was almost done eating. My husband was given a very dull steak knife that didn't cut his steak so he ended up using his butter knife. The waiter came back to check in us about 15-20 minutes after we got our food. My husband at that point asked for a new knife and some ketchup. He got the knife but no ketchup. Over all very disappointing and left us wishing we drove to 30 minutes to our original reservation. Very disappointing almost $300 meal. We cook better at home.
Excellent service. Fresh, local fish & produce. Table seating in front of wine storage is ideal.
Dinner was fine. Nice waitress. But as the evening continued it got so noisy that we ended up shouting to be heard. Also had to wait a long time to get our check.
I would tell them NOT to order the PDA Burger…
Other menu items may be good…love their bread!
We have a delightful meal with our server, Michelle. Our soups ( French Onion and Squash, Soup du jour) were yummy! My PDA Salad was beautifully presented, delicious and definitely large enough for an entree. The Scallops were also good, as long as you are also a fan of risotto. The brownie with ice cream was huge....could have been shared by 2-4! Lol! Classic Creme Brûlée was perfect! Only four stars as dinner for two including tip was $150 and the dining room was a little loud. Food and service are great, and loved being given a loaf of their amazing bread to bring home!
Very good food and service.
If you are going to charge $50 for steak frites, it better be one of the best. That was my expectation! The steak and sauce were extremely disappointing. The steak quality was fair at best. Sauce was disappointing and not recognizable. Great bread, great fries and nice staff. Won’t be in any rush to give this place a second go. French restaurant that serves a poor steak frites and au pouve sauce is a failure.
Even during a busy Sunday brunch period, service was excellent and accommodating of our late-arriving friend
We had a wonderful dinner. Due to weather we had an inside table and it was wonderful: view of the wine cabinet and bakery so we could watch bread being made. Dinner was delicious. Appetizers were mushroom salad, octopus and duck confit. We had scallops with risotto, lobster pasta and fish en papillote. All were good but the first two entrees were the best. Dinner was a chocolate bread pudding which we shared. Bottle of wine. Not an inexpensive dinner but recommend for a special occasion.
We’d looked forward to this birthday dinner — my 61st
— for weeks, with close friends. Seating and service were fine (Theodora), and we ordered three of the evening special, a Campanella pasta with lobster, corn, and other items. I ordered the escargots followed by scallops on a saffron risotto. We’ve been big fans of Pain d’Avignon for years, and have cheered their bakery success as we saw breads travel everywhere we shop.
The food just wasn’t very interesting. With the exception of the escargots, which were terrific, and the orange/butter crepes ordered for dessert, we found the entrees well cooked but flavorless — even the saffron risotto. The specials were mostly under-sauced carbs, with little lobster or other seafood. With a bill of around $200 including tip, for four people, with no alcohol, tap water, one petit plat and two desserts, the price seemed egregious.
I’m afraid that we’ll experience this wonderful bakery exclusively through our local grocery stores in the future.
We were in the back which is sort of dark
Nice for the bar atmosphere but less so for lunch. Service here is usually slow.
Great food and great service and breads were amazing!
Service was very poor…
Servers were friendly. Atmosphere was nice. Main dish Cod was not very good. The waitress and waiter were clueless after I told them I didn’t like the dish. I only eat fish. Salad they forgot the mushrooms which is why I ordered it. Bread was amazing and I over ate it but it was my main meal with the salad because I didn’t eat much of the fish. Before you leave you get a bag of bread which was a nice touch. We hard so much about this French restaurant and we were disappointed.
Great food and service. Lobster pasta was outstanding.
Delightful restaurant a favorite of ours
It was ok. A lot of the food lacked seasoning. Would try again though. Great bread.
We have become a big fan off this restaurant and the personnel who served us. Very pleasant and easy to communicate with. Food was outstanding again and we have to go back again to try some of the other items. One recommendation you have all that bread, please make a fabulous Bread Pudding!!
Lou and Pam D.
Have eaten here before, always very good. This time it was OK but not great. Understand service issues with Covid etc. Temperature seemed too cold. We had an obnoxious diner seated near us that was very loud. Always order escargot , but it seemed to be somewhat flat, not much flavor. Good overall but not great this time.
These folks have great potential, but they are experiencing staffing shortages that are severely limiting their ability to realize this potential. Service was very slow, wine glasses had to be sent back because they were dirty. Server is new (2 weeks) and it appears that she has not had any formal training on serving in an upscale restaurant. Certainly wish them the best, but they need to get servers with experience and/or train the new ones.
And that was just the food. The server was attentive, gracious and responsive. The atmosphere was perfect for conversation, but lively.
Go! You won't be disappointed. In fact, you'll be delighted.
Delightful evening of delicious food
My wife had the steak ($ 52), which is absolutely overpriced. The frites were cold. I ordered three appetizers instead of a big meal. It came all at once, because the server thought it had to be so. Next time the server should ask. Besides that, the server should have known that four plates plus wine and water glasses plus bread bowl wouldn't have room on that small bistro table. There were years when PDA was very good and was offering tasty meals at reasonable prices. These times seem to be over.
Great staff, wonderful food (starting with amazing bread), excellent wine recommendation
Great good awful service
Great all around!
The hosting team was competent. We were seated relatively quickly. The service started off fine. Our server offered us water and then took our cocktail order. My wife suggested that we would like to start with an order of the wellfleet oysters, and our server informed us that she would have to put in the entire order at once. So we scrambled a bit and made our choices. The cocktails arrived relatively quickly.
The problem started when our entrees were delivered. Our server did not come back to check on us or to see if we wanted wine to accompany the entrees. After we’d both eaten half of our rapidly-cooling $52 steaks with upcharged subs for the fries, my wife finally managed to flag down a random busser to let them know that we’d like a glass of Malbec. It did not arrive during our meal. Comically, the bartender wandered over with the glass as we were waiting for the check to be taken, nearly 20 minutes after we’d requested it.
We are locals, and we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this evening. We’ve been to PDA many times over the past few years. That shouldn’t confer special status on us, but I mention it because we were disappointed that such an expensive meal at a previously-reliable restaurant did not meet our expectations given past experiences. Maybe it was an off night; maybe the seasonal serving team is inexperienced. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to guess that a guest would probably want a nice glass of wine to accompany a very nice steak though.
When my wife (who has herself worked as a server in high end restaurants back in the day) mentioned our disappointment to our server, she got defensive and made excuses about the bar service. I don’t think I would have bothered with this review if that hadn’t happened. Throwing another team member under the bus and not apologizing or offering to try to make it right reflects poorly on the establishment as a whole. We came away from the experience resolved to stay away during tourist season.
Great food and great service!
Terrible experience. We waited 45 minutes for our food meanwhile the table of 8 next to us who arrived after got their food immediately. The batter used for the fried egg plant tasted spoiled. Water glasses were foggy and water was room temp / tasted off. Will not be going back.
Great experience! Love the vibe inside. Four of us dined and everyone was very happy with their meals. Bibb salad was delicious as well. Bread, of course, is to die for! Nice touch that your offered a complimentary small loaf to take home.
A beautiful slice of France neatly hidden in Hyannis, a true gem. Top 3 on Cape Cod.
Excellent. A little nervous about seagulls overhead. Claire's salad was too salty.
Wonderful food and ambience.
We had a wonderful evening. Food and service were great.
We went for breakfast and the food was amazing. The restaurant itself is very cute and wonderfully designed with the bakery attached. The back of the building is where the bread is actually baked and there are large windows in the restaurant looking into the kitchens. You can sit and watch the bread going into the ovens and cooling on the racks. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
