Pain D’Avignon

In 1992, thrown together on Cape Cod by political circumstances none of them could have predicted, four young Yugoslavs founded Pain D'Avignon.Their goal was to recreate the Old World Traditions using baking techniques and recipes barely changed in centuries. Their founding principle: fine breads deserve to be at the center of the dining experience, not a mere afterthought. At their Hyannis bakery, the timeless art of bread making is both revered and respected. Everyday salt, flour and filtered water are combined – like the bakers themselves – with a distinctly European flavor.

Most of the experiences was good but the chicken I ordered was bland and too dry to eat. Chicken is something I look forward to in French restaurants so this was a real disappointment. Our first course of grilled octopus was Devine as was the scallop dish my partner had. The service was spotty particularly getting a second glass of wine.
I want this restaurant to be better than it is. Prices have increased like all food everywhere. The burger is now $30.

Great food as always. Service good as well. Had the "Lovely Lady" cocktail which was great. It was a little noise in there, and it wasn't that busy, may have just been one couple that was loud.

They do such a nice job here! From the fresh amazing bread to the interesting and delicious apps to the entrees we were impressed. A little pricey but well worth it. Great wine list and cocktails too!

Fabulous dinner with fresh ingredients. French flair with decor and cuisine is a welcomed choice to Cape Cod.
Service & Cocktails also very good.
We will be back.

Just overall disappointing. Client lunch, no one at the hostess station, tiny table against the wall, chairs too small, grumpy waiters. Ordered: Open Face Steak Sandwich-Shaved filet mignon, brioche pullman, crispy onion, blue cheese fondue, pommes frites 19.00. Received a 2 inch piece of brioche toast, 2 tablespoons of dried, overcooked shaved steak, 2 crispy onions a teaspoon of cheese fondue and a side of semi-warm limp fries. Super dry bread and meat with not nearly enough sauce to compensate. I've loved their bakery but the lunch was extremely disappointing. Perhaps an off day?

Just okay. A little pricey for what we got, and we’re from Seattle so pricing isn’t the issue. It was fine. Just nothing amazing. I likely wouldn’t go back. Also, the most uncomfortable low top tables I’ve ever experienced.

We have eaten at Pain d’Avignon many times. We love to sit/eat at the bar. Unfortunately, the bartender was slammed and we had to wait a long time for a drink and a longer time to order. Why didn’t one of the other staff help him out.

Food was not up to Pd’As usual standards either. Too bad.

Server was not familiar with the menu (unable to provide information about entrees or drinks). The menu was limited. The hamburger was very good but the other entree’s were not to the standard expected of this restaurant.

The dishes were well-executed, fresh, and flavorful, except for the over-salted Cod. The main issue is value — there is none. Portions on the appetizers are half of what they should be goven the price. Dinners are slightly better-portioned, but there is just no value here.

The brunch menu was ample, even for vegetarians, and the eggplant dish was divine. Inside was too noisy to talk or relax, so we moved outside to enjoy a delicious meal under blue skies and red umbrellas.

While located in a difficult to find venue near the airport, the ambiance is warm and welcoming and the food was delicious and of high quality. The room(s) could benefit from some softer surfaces or sound absorbing panels as it was quite loud. Overall, we really enjoyed it and will return.

Everything was great as usual except our waitress. She gave us our menus and asked to take our order immediately. We ordered a glass of wine and said we would look at the menus- she stood and stared at us by the door for about 10 minutes but never brought our wine. It was odd and very unusual for this place. Otherwise everything was great!

We came here for our anniversary dinner last evening. We had planned to go somewhere else a bit further away but decided to stay close to home. We got seated right away. It took a while for our waiter to come over and take our drink order. We decided on a bottle of wine. When he came back 15-20 minutes later he gave us dirty wine glasses that had dried red wine and dark purple spots on them like they had never been cleaned. It was a huge turn off from the start. We both ordered the sirloin which wasn't the best quality. Cooked ok but chewy. The waiter never cleared our pile of bread plates until I was almost done eating. My husband was given a very dull steak knife that didn't cut his steak so he ended up using his butter knife. The waiter came back to check in us about 15-20 minutes after we got our food. My husband at that point asked for a new knife and some ketchup. He got the knife but no ketchup. Over all very disappointing and left us wishing we drove to 30 minutes to our original reservation. Very disappointing almost $300 meal. We cook better at home.

We have a delightful meal with our server, Michelle. Our soups ( French Onion and Squash, Soup du jour) were yummy! My PDA Salad was beautifully presented, delicious and definitely large enough for an entree. The Scallops were also good, as long as you are also a fan of risotto. The brownie with ice cream was huge....could have been shared by 2-4! Lol! Classic Creme Brûlée was perfect! Only four stars as dinner for two including tip was $150 and the dining room was a little loud. Food and service are great, and loved being given a loaf of their amazing bread to bring home!

If you are going to charge $50 for steak frites, it better be one of the best. That was my expectation! The steak and sauce were extremely disappointing. The steak quality was fair at best. Sauce was disappointing and not recognizable. Great bread, great fries and nice staff. Won’t be in any rush to give this place a second go. French restaurant that serves a poor steak frites and au pouve sauce is a failure.

We had a wonderful dinner. Due to weather we had an inside table and it was wonderful: view of the wine cabinet and bakery so we could watch bread being made. Dinner was delicious. Appetizers were mushroom salad, octopus and duck confit. We had scallops with risotto, lobster pasta and fish en papillote. All were good but the first two entrees were the best. Dinner was a chocolate bread pudding which we shared. Bottle of wine. Not an inexpensive dinner but recommend for a special occasion.

We’d looked forward to this birthday dinner — my 61st
— for weeks, with close friends. Seating and service were fine (Theodora), and we ordered three of the evening special, a Campanella pasta with lobster, corn, and other items. I ordered the escargots followed by scallops on a saffron risotto. We’ve been big fans of Pain d’Avignon for years, and have cheered their bakery success as we saw breads travel everywhere we shop.

The food just wasn’t very interesting. With the exception of the escargots, which were terrific, and the orange/butter crepes ordered for dessert, we found the entrees well cooked but flavorless — even the saffron risotto. The specials were mostly under-sauced carbs, with little lobster or other seafood. With a bill of around $200 including tip, for four people, with no alcohol, tap water, one petit plat and two desserts, the price seemed egregious.

I’m afraid that we’ll experience this wonderful bakery exclusively through our local grocery stores in the future.

Servers were friendly. Atmosphere was nice. Main dish Cod was not very good. The waitress and waiter were clueless after I told them I didn’t like the dish. I only eat fish. Salad they forgot the mushrooms which is why I ordered it. Bread was amazing and I over ate it but it was my main meal with the salad because I didn’t eat much of the fish. Before you leave you get a bag of bread which was a nice touch. We hard so much about this French restaurant and we were disappointed.
