About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for brunch
  • Great for creative cocktails
In 1992, thrown together on Cape Cod by political circumstances none of them could have predicted, four young Yugoslavs founded Pain D'Avignon.Their goal was to recreate the Old World Traditions using baking techniques and recipes barely changed in centuries. Their founding principle: fine breads deserve to be at the center of the dining experience, not a mere afterthought. At their Hyannis bakery, the timeless art of bread making is both revered and respected. Everyday salt, flour and filtered water are combined – like the bakers themselves – with a distinctly European flavor.

Was disappointed that at 7PM the restaurant was out of several items. No oysters or scallops on Cape Cod at 7PM. Our waiter Bruno was good and helped to make the night satisfiable.

Great night overall. Bread came out before water. First round of water was room temp. I drink straight tonic, my first tonic came out flat. Second tonic was poured from a bottle and perfect. Food was incredible, truly an experience. Servers were delightful. Noise was oppressive. Party on the opposite side of the room were drunk and screaming 2’ from each others faces. I could barely hear my poor server. Overall great. We will def be back.

The food is delicious and the servers were good. We were the first party sat in the empty dining room and given a teeny tiny table for 2 near the bathroom. We did not complain as we assumed the restaurant would fill up. It did not. The 4 top next to us remained empty and they sat a party of 2 at the 4 top on our other side. Very disappointing. We noted it was our anniversary on our reservation and it was never acknowledged by the staff. We wish we had gone somewhere else to celebrate.

The French onion soup and baked oysters were amazing. The lamb chops were a bit disappointing but the service was good.

We have been going to Pain D’Avignon for years, have always enjoyed it.. this experience was sub par… we ordered 2 orders of Wellfleet oysters as appetizers the menu said 1/2 dozen, when we received them there was only 5 oysters, we asked the buss boy to get our waiter .. it was taking a while so we started eating … when someone (other than our waiter) came over and we showed him our order… he explained “oh yes the menu hasn’t been updated, we reduced the number of oysters to 5” and offered no further explanation or solution and walked away. This annoyed me for the remainder of my meal.. when our original waiter came at the end of the dinner and asked how everything was I explained our experience with the appetizers he seemed puzzled by the explanation we received and said leave it with him…when he brought our check they did take one of the orders off the check but the experience was set.. They should have told us when we ordered the menu was wrong. When we asked the buss boy to get our waiter and someone else came, they should of fixed the mistake Also early that day my wife and I went for Breakfast at Pain D’Avignon in Chatham … we ordered our drinks while we reviewed option for breakfast we decided on the same thing Classic Breakfast.. and placed our order… we can overhear some of the employees saying “ we have no eggs”, I called our waiter over to ask did I hear correctly? Are open for breakfast but have no eggs, to which he answered yes, someone is going to the CVS to buy some eggs.. he did offer to bring our bacon and potatoes while we waited??? Anyways it was my wife’s birthday we normally have good experience, it wasn’t meant to be I guess

The flattened crab cakes are the best we’ve ever found because every bite combines crust and crabmeat

This was our second time at this restaurant. Everything was truly lovely, the food, the service and the ambience. I had the Scottish salmon and it was truly delightful. My wife had the chicken mayonnaise which she loved. The service was attentive and friendly, and the ambience was, well, wonderful. This restaurant is truly a delight
