Our favorite restaurant! We recommend it all the time. So glad it survived the last year and a half.
Beautiful place for events, but I will not be going to dinner there again. The food was just not impressive.
Great tasting food, lots of choices for dietary concerns.
The chicken curry bowl I had was really good. I’d suggest it to someone else.
Unfortunately, our food was once again disappointing, as were our cocktails, while being effortfully served in one of the most beautiful settings in town. I keep coming back for the setting, but the food is never good. I fear that I can trust only the wine going forward...
Great meal outside-slow to get served though. We were patient and rewarded with great meal :)
The initial impression of the restaurant was very dirty, the entrance was full of debris and not well-maintained. The hostess was very nice and gave us options for seating. Once we were seated the service was terrible. Our waitress was very unattentive, slow to take our order and after she finally took our dinner order she never came back. Our were drinks were empty both water and cocktails and we had to flag her down to get our bill. The food was bland, very under seasoned. The drinks were really good. I would not recommend this restaurant. The menu looked fantastic online and I was very excited to try it out, super disappointed.
Delicious food with great service!
Had a reservation for Fathers Day for 1:30. After being seated and waiting a few minutes and ordered a glass of wine and looking at the menu, our waitress (who was very sweet) came over and told us they were completely out of eggs which was about 3/4 of the menu being Father’s Day brunch. Not a huge deal to change up our order. We all ordered something without egg only to be told about 15 minutes later that the kitchen was out of food and they were closing down and told us they were sorry and that they would not be serving us yet charged us for the 1 glass of wine that was ordered. I was completely unimpressed that they just basically thought it was an oh well moment and offered nothing in place of wasting about 35 minutes of our time as we were hungry to celebrate Father’s Day. I felt so bad for our waitress because it wasn’t her fault. Shame on the manager and chef for putting her in that awkward position, they should have at least come and spoken to us.
Amazing! Fantastic server and fun food choices
Beautiful evening in a beautiful setting… excellent food!
Our waitress was training a new hire but still had time to give us a tour after dinner. Drinks and dinner were delicious as always!!!
Ittttttttt waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas gooooooooooooooooooood.
My friend and I decided to try out Paddock place on a Friday night since neither of us had been, and we both love the other Gilmore restaurants. I booked a reservation on Open Table and was thrilled that I could reserve an outdoor table for, but unfortunately we were told when we arrived that their outdoor seating was first come first serve. This was a little disappointing. Our server was new and was johnny on the spot on coming to our table when we first sat down; however, when we informed we would need a couple minutes to look at the menu, it took her a bit to come back to the table. We weren’t in any rush so no big deal there. I got the Mad Hatter cocktail and it was quite good for all the whiskey lovers out there. We ordered their truffle smashed potatoes for the table and they were fantastic. I ordered the smoked salmon tacos, and they were also very good. My friend ordered the Caesar salad and was a little underwhelmed since it came out as one skinny romaine bunch with some dressing and an egg on top. Lastly, they aren’t up and running on their Gregslist reward system for all the Gilmore group diehards which was a bummer, but I was told they should have this capability in the next couple months. All in all, I’d come back but would try to wait for outdoor seating on a beautiful MI night.
Great to be able to come back again.
The ambiance is wonderful and we all have so many great memories of coming to this space for over 30 years.
Wish the menu was more varied and a little larger though.
Danielle was our waitress and was phenomenal! She paced the food just right (after asking our preference), gave excellent menu suggestions and brought out a dessert platter at the end for the birthdays being celebrated.
Food is unique and plenty of modifications can be made for food restrictions. Many seating areas to choose from...bar, terrace, various indoor rooms.
Setting in the library is cozy and would indicate fine dining if it were not for the TV on top of the fireplace (luckily, they were not on) and the loud music piped into the room. High ceilings make it even louder and there was a very energetic (loud) little girl running around the room when we were first seated. Suggestion is to make some of the rooms "quiet" zones (no music, no kids), so that an actual fine dining experience can be had in a portion of the very large house.
I always love coming here as the history and ambience are top notch. Had been dreaming about the Paddock Caesar salad since my last visit and while tonight is was still good, the yoke was overdone and hard but overall tasted great 👍🏼
Danielle was our amazing server and helped make our evening fun and we will definitely be back (hoping Danielle will again be our server)
Great food and great service!
Very comfortable nicer casual dining with great service.
We dined Saturday night for our anniversary. Very quiet and socially distanced. Food and drinks were very good. I had Lions mane cakes and husband had pork tacos and smashed reds. Service was excellent.
I had expected bar food at Paddock Place, and they offer that, but they have so much more on the menu! The queso appetizer we ordered was great! And my husband had the salmon and I had the special, breaded walleye, which may have been the best walleye I've ever had. And I have always loved the old mansion that houses this restaurant and all its predecessors. We will be back!
The waitress was rude, and they were out most most gluten-free options, which is a big deal to somebody with celiac disease. Apparently, they had a busy day and were unable to keep up with food quantity. The drinks were made unprofessionally, and we did not eat our meal, as we left. The manager was excellent, and compensated us as well as apologized for the service.
Pizzas were incredible and bigger than anticipated!
We were seated right away on the patio. The waitress was very good. The food was excellent. The food took a long time to arrive and the restaurant was not very busy.
All of our entrees were over seasoned. Bar service was slow.
We love dining here. Great food and atmosphere!
A scrumptious and sunlit Sunday Brunch here on April 25! Great service, too.
What a great place! On site parking. Calm and quiet atmosphere. Great service and everything thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to go back.
Music was a little off and when I made the reservation I asked for a high top but that sat us in the main part of the restaurant
The food was fantastic and the employees were incredibly helpful and personable.
What a perfect setting for dinner - loved the decor and the stag couldn’t have been friendlier! Covid precautions were top notch.
Arrived for our reservation and it was closed, no sign on the door, several others pulled into the parking lot as well and turned around when they also realized the place was closed. Website indicated they were open. Called the # on the website, no answer.
Had reservation, showed up at restaurant on time, restaurant closed , no one there. never received email or phone call that the restaurant would be closed! Will NEVER go back again !
We had a great experience, our waitress was excellent. Our food was excellent. I like the idea of restaurants that take reservations. We where meeting another couple for dinner, I probably didn’t need to make a reservation for 5, we where the first to arrive, but if I would have known I would have showed up earlier for happy hour. They have parking which is great for a downtown location.
A lovely dining experience in an over 100 year old mansion. The food and service are equally fantastic!
They use to have the best pizza but the quality went from amazing to poor. Wouldn’t go back again!
We stopped by Paddock Place for a drink and appetizer and were happy to be seated at the bar. The bartender was new and very accommodating. We wanted to buy a gift certificate for a friend and it was immediately taken care of. Since we had less than an hour we opted to get an appetizer - the charcuterie plate with cheeses and meats. We liked it, but think that the presentation could have been better with mustards, honey or figs added to the plate. The meat was corned beef, which although was very good, it wasn't the usual pates and thinly sliced meats that often are on a charcuterie option.
The atmosphere at Paddock Place is outstanding and there's nothing like it in Grand Rapids - definitely a place that we look forward to going to. We are looking forward to their outdoor patio area this summer which they say is expanding.
Our bartender was wonderful, very courteous, personable and someone we will go to see again.
Next time we hope to have more time to spend to have dinner and try some of the tasty sounding items on their menu.
Great service from the host and wait staff. Our meals were excellent. Good to have the dining areas expanded too.
Decent but I won’t be dying to return any time soon. We had drinks and dinner with friends. We had a dining reservation at 6:30 but called the day before to see if we could have a drink in the bar beforehand. They accommodated our request. When we arrived they seated us at a small high top in the bar. We had drinks and then as our reservation time came about we closed our bar tab to head to our dinner table. They then told us our tiny high top is where they intended to keep us for dinner. Mind you the table we were at was barely large enough for 4 people to have drinks. My husband requested twice that they put us at a larger table for dinner and they shot him down. So...I went to talk to the hostess ;) After I asked why we couldn’t at least be moved to a larger table in the bar and me doing some problem solving (for other reservations) they finally agreed to accommodate us. Annoying but whatever.
The food was good and our server was very nice. I’ve worked in several restaurants in my past so I’m willing to give grace but what I detailed above did cast a little negativity on our experience. Overall a decent experience but could have been much better.
Great service. Loved the food. The menu made it very hard to choose.
