Paco's Tacos Cantina - Poipu
This is probably the worse dinning experience my wife and I have had on the island. The food quality is "ok" , but definitely more expensive for authentic Mexican food (which was expected). No complimentary chips and salsa (not a deal breaker, but it's an authentic Mexican restaurant ) The service is less than adequate , they predominantly have two ladies working all of the tables, agree with other reviews in which ladies not as welcoming as other waitresses at other restaurants. That being said they do their job, but do not expect anything beyond getting your first beverage and your food arrival. You will need flag them down otherwise. All in all, the thing that made it a bad experience was the heat (pretty much feels like being outside in the shade, no circulation ) and the FLIES! We have been eating at many Kauai restaurants in similar environments and did not experience this. We were fighting off multiple flies throughout the whole meal, until the point my wife and I cut our losses and took food to go. I definitely to not recommend and will not be back.
Service was fast. Food was delicious and they have vegan options.
The salsa picosa was all wrong. I was brought a clear reddish oil. I only smelled it and had it taken back
I had the salsa verde, the port was like 1/3 inch cubes; quite unlike at other places. The Verde sauce was good/
Everyone's dishes were good.
The food was great, the service was slow even for Hawaii.
Not impressed with the food. Very simple and doesn’t include much for the pricing.
This was our first trip there and we were greatly surprised...the food was great and the presentation appealing. It's not exactly like the restaurants we have in Calif, but good in it's own fashion-we almost like it better! I had the Chile Verde salad and my husband had the Chile Verde burrito and our friends had the carne asada tacos and fish burrito....we were all happy with our choices and are eager to return for more.
Reviews were very mixed so we had to see for ourselves. We had been here before when it was Joes on the Green and were sad that had changed. But Paco’s delivered with a good happy hour and we were pleasantly surprised by the dinners. Drinks were a good bargain at happy hour and there were multiple servers making sure we had what we needed. There was an ok band playing which always adds the spirit of aloha. Kind of expensive for Mexican but between us, we had 4 Cadillac Margs, an appetizer and 2 dinners. We would likely go back on our next trip to the island and I would like to try for breakfast.
Everything was good!
Had to ask for our food twice. Waitress seem half asleep. Asked for sides and got something else. Had to ask for refills
Reception at front desk was gruff and sour. No tables were clean and ready even though the room was half full. Got seated relatively quickly - at a grossly messy table that they came to clean after they tried to seat us at it.
Took forever for server to come to our table. Ordered cocktails and chips/salsa, and also a shared first course and two mains. Cocktails eventually came. No chips. When I asked about chips, they brought them out plus our first course plus our main courses all at the same time.
My enchiladas were ok, not great. My companion’s burrito was literally cold inside.
Got very loud with an over-amplified performer on stage. Don’t really understand why they try to have loud live music. Not that sort of place.
Never a smile or warn word from any staff member. It seemed like the whole staff was angry at the world. There is a lack of good Mexican food on the South shore, and we had high hopes. But this is a restaurant best avoided.
Great al pastor tacos
We showed up for our reservation and we were told that they were super busy and that we would need to be put on a wait list for 45 minutes. No apologies, just a very rude host. When we tried to argue that we had a confirmed reservation the host brushed us off and told us “too bad” and “we were wasting his time”. Terrible. We would never go back.
Terrible. 2 people working an entire restaurant. Food blah.
When we arrived, they didn't have our reservation (made on Open Table) because they hadn't looked at their computer. We showed them the confirmation and they offered us a table on the patio or by the stage. We asked then to show us the potato and it was rather windy so we ordered fire the state. They had to clean the table and asked to wait by the entrance. Another young man promptly gave our signed table to another group. When we told him he said that they other group had reservations. We told him we also had reservations (he must have already known this because he was standing there when we showed our confirmation to the first young man) . He then proceeded to argue over seating on the patio versus near the stage. When I suggested to my wife that perhaps we're shouldn't eat there, he said "ok" and went to sweat another patron. We left. Never have we had such a rude reception at any restaurant. There are many places on the south shore of Kauai that value customers more than "Paco's Tacos".
We discovered Paco's Tacos on our first trip to Kauai and enjoyed it. Then we took our entire family there for dinner and for breakfast. They all thought it was great.
We had 6 adults and 4 children with us and we all enjoyed the open air seating and the food
Great Mexican breakfast. Chorizo scramble was superb. Everything fresh. The beans and rice were some of the best we’ve had. Good value for money. Highly recommend
Great service & excellent views of the golf course. Mai Tai’s were good, food was only so-so.
Music was way too loud & my Carne Asada Burrito had absolutely NO taste! Disappointing.
Pricy for the quality and not a whole lot of flavor. Ordered margaritas because it was happy hour but our waitress did not inform us that the frozen ones were not happy hour specials. So when our bill came we were quite surprised. Other taco options on the island seem to be much better. Live music was VERY loud and even though I was sitting right next to my wife, we had to practically yell at one another to have a conversation.
Enjoyed sunset meal outside overlooking the golf course. Beautiful location and great service - Love this place!
Great food, very authentic and fantastic enviroment. Family owned and run the staff is fantastic. Had the Ono Taco plate. Being from Texas we have great Mexican food, but this place has ruined me, will have to come back here to get a fix of amazing fish tacos.
Great place and fantastic food
They did not honor our open table reservations! They initially told us no tables available but tables open at far end! The service was terrible! More attention give to table of 10+ than table of four ordering food. The food was really good but insufficient staffing!!! After long wait for bill, we took the statement up to the front desk. Get you act together and you might be successful!!!
Four of us took a friend there for his birthday dinner. The food was very good, no complaints. The music was way too LOUD. We could not enjoy quiet, pleasant conversation. On the plus side, we asked them to turn it down and they did. One minor complaint is they do not give you any complimentary chips and salsa. This is the ONLY Mexican restaurant that I have been to that doesn't give you chips and salsa when you first sit down at the table.
Great food, great service, live music, a pretty sunset.
Had the Ono ceviche and the Ono burrito. They were awesome!
Food was not that great and service was really slow. We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer and it came out after our food. Not worth the wait to sit down even though no one was there.
Where do I start? We had tacos and they were the worst tacos I’ve ever eaten. The restaurant had one young woman who seated you, took your order, delivered the food, got your drinks and took care of tour bill. We felt sorry for her but she was the best part of the restaurant. She has a great work ethic and a wonderful personality but she was overworked and probably underpaid. The owners need to get more help and improve the quality of the food.
Excellent food and service!
First time trying Paco’s Tacos. Carne Asada Burrito and Tacos are both “keepers” as is the restaurant.
