The service was excellent. Meg was great. She even remembered us from a prior visit. The hot food came out hot, and the cold food was cold. There were five of us and an example of how good the food was, we cleaned all the plates thoroughly. It was delicious.
Our server was very nice and attentive. It was our first time at this restaurant and we enjoyed it. The French onion soup was good, and not too much before the main meal. I had the pot roast, which was delicious, tender and with good veggies over mashed potatoes. Hubby had the bison meatloaf, which he also enjoyed. We were too full for dessert but maybe next time, the chocolate bread pudding sounded good.
Pack's Tavern was a pleasant surprise. We wanted a simple meal after being "on the go" for about a week. Pack's was perfect. We shared some warm tortilla chips with guacamole and pica over drinks followed by both of us having the noted meatloaf dinner. Terrific!
This was a large tavern with lots of tables and a patio. We had six people but probably would have not needed a reservation on a weeknight. Food was good for a tavern and lots of beer options. Service was OK but not too speedy. It is a fun place and I would recommend.
Pack's was a great option for our first night in Asheville. The location was an easy walk from our downtown hotel, service was quick, and we had a great table near the window. The beer list was extensive, my pizza was delicious (love the wood fired oven!), & I definitely recommend the wood-fired cauliflower side. My wife enjoyed the fish tacos & my daughter gobbled up the burger. Overall - a very decent meal at a reasonable price.
We loved the vibe at Pack's Tavern and the food was very good, but we had a major problem with food delivery which should not have happened. As it turns out, the pizza (which was excellent) arrived 30 minutes before my husband's dinner because "it was made in another building." Therefore we each ate alone which put a damper on the evening.
This was our second visit and it's been great both times. While very much a tavern the food is high quality.
My wife had the trout, I had the Bison meatloaf and we cleaned our plates
Plus their beer list is fantastic with many North Carolina brews.
Pricing is reasonable. We don't live in Asheville and wish we had one at home.
I am truly amazed and disapointed in the level of service and the fact that we had recommended this establishment to a supplier -- I was so embarressed ! We visited here based on recommendation of the food.
We had a party of 6 and we waited over 15 min just for the waitress to come to the table after being seated with reservations. This should have been our first sign. Then once the server did come to the table she asked " do you need a few minutes? " We ordered drinks and once she did make it back with them she poured one of the drinks over on the table.. never apologizing ,,, just stating "well I have never done that before" -- she did rake the ice from the table and left to get a towel ... we ended up using our napkins to clean up the running liquid! she does replace the drink and then after another wait we had to ask for refills, and if we could order our dinner..... once again another person brings the food out and it is done perfectly, as she came by to see if all was well we asked for some drink refills and horseradish (that was never brought) our waitress did not return for an extended period. The manager comes to the table and asks if all is okay? We replied that the food was great, to his reply that the "waitress had not returned because she was fearful that because someone in our party was disatisfied because they had not eaten their steak. "Strange, thought that would be a great reason to check on one of my serving tables" amazing !!! So very dissapointed in both the server and the managment !
Kitchen needs a leader or a reader. Jake was our waiter and he did a great job even tho it was his first day on his own. He knew the food and the drinks. He did a great job.
I ordered a mushroom and swiss burger, NO ONION, MEDIUM WELL.
What i got was medium rare in most restaurants, and onion hidden under the cheese and mushrooms.
I had so much confidence in Jake that I knew he wrote it down correct. I never said a thing
to Jake because I just didn't want him to be the new guy going back in the kitchen, telling them they didin't prepare my food correctly. They didn't get the burger right at all. They should have pictures showing the centers of burgers then giving them each a number as to the level of doneness. It really didn't matter to me but if it happens again I will send it back. No onions really means no onions I can't explain that any more.
Not only did all 4 at our table get food at different times, first 2 almost done as finally started as good was getting cold-when other 2 got their fish without the fries-by time got fries fish almost gone. Not a pleasant way to eat!!!
Whenever we are in Asheville, and now we go often, I stop in for the stellar pecan crusted trout, and to die for peanut butter pie. My husband always has something different as he can't decide among so many delicious options at good prices and he has never been disappointed. My girlfriends are in rut with me snapping up the pecan crusted trout with butter sauce, fresh asparagus spears and the mom never made crushed mashed potatoes. We garnish this with gallons of unsweet iced tea as we groan, yum, and roll our eyes over the fabulous fare. The peanut butter pie could easily be used for espionage purposes. I'd wax your car to crawl across the street for a piece.
On weekends, the owner and son are nearby and never miss a chance to give you a welcome handshake, a memorizing smile starting deep in the eyes--like farther like son, and a thank you for stopping. If you foolishly haven't eaten at Pack's Tavern when in Asheville, you need to elevate your game.
