Pacifica Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
We were celebrating a friends birthday. Cory, our waiter, was knowledgeable and attentive. We all ordered the salmon...amazing. The greens in the salad were fresh and burst with flavor. The complimentary creme brûlée Birthday surprise was delightful as was the mocha creme dessert. We sat outside and enjoyed the ocean view.
We had a lovely time. We had never been to Pacifica Del Mar. Our son gave us a gift card at Christmas so we used it. Dinner was fabulous, the view was outstanding and we loved our waiter, Scott. We will definitely go back. It was worth the drive from East County.
The food was great. My advice is don't go near closing time. Wouldn't expect to have to get up and get my own glass of ice at this type of restaurant. Felt since we were the last table we were left alone. It wasn't until I had to get up and get my own glass of ice that we were checked on.
Took my wife for her birthday and had a wonderful. Asked them through Open Table to card her when she ordered wine. They played it up which was very funny. She turned 60. The food was delicious and a great value if you get there before 6pm. Two course under thirty dollars. As always, a wonderful way to end the day with a beautiful sunset into the Pacific.
The food is excellent! We have been here many times and it is always consistent and delicious. My husband and I are vegetarians, although I will treat myself to salmon or scallops on rare special occasions. The chef always makes a coconut curry vegetarian meal for my husband when we go that is very nice. Great ambiance as well.
My husband and I were there for Friday night sunset dinner. We were sitting outside with the beautiful view right before the sunset. The wine my husband wanted to order from iPad wasn't available.:( The second choice wasn't either. I wonder if restaurant even looks in to updating inventory or the wine list on the website . They brought our appetizers shortly and then we were looking at our empty plates for quite some time. The other servants were passing by but no one picked up dirty plates.:( I felt bad for the guy who brought our entrees... there were no place to put it. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious but service needs improvement big time!
We come here often because we like the menu and the casual ambiance. However, on this visit both our entrees (catfish, shrimp & grits) seemed unusually bland. Also, the restaurant has replaced their signature Japanese clam chowder with a spicier, "creole" style chowder which was not very good. If you go and also miss their original chowder, make sure you tell them to bring it back!
First, the location and view is excellent. I wanted this place to be so good but
it wasn't. The service was harried and spotty. The shrimp appetizer was not
presented well and was warm. Shrimp cocktail is to be iced to the max...
The fish was fair and not hot so they messed that up and the chicken was
buried in some sauce that covered up the taste of the chicken - so they
messed that up as well. Let's face it - it's a Del Mar place to be seen and the food
is marginal at best. Will be going elsewhere for seafood.
This is NOT an inexpensive restaurant.
We were celebrating a birthday as I notated in my reservation.None of the staff made any reference or expressed any wishes. We had a terrible service experience. From requesting bread, lemon with our water & not getting any, requesting balsamic vinegar & oil & not getting any, getting our salad with dressing on the side when it was not order that way, served the Pacifica signature entree of Sugar-Spiced Salmon dry without any sauce & no one refilling our watering glasses when they were empty.
Although there were many servers and bus staff around, we had to get the attention of multiple staff before errors were corrected and requests were fulfilled. This was extremely disappointing.
My wife and I had enjoyed a relaxing day at the spa and hoped to have a nice dinner with sunset views as we celebrated our anniversary. We were surprised how lively, yet romantic the outdoor terrace was. Perfect place for date night. The food was plentiful and tasty. We each had different dishes and were very satisfied. The waiter was friendly, but left you space without having to wait for service. Well done.
We've been many times over the years and I'm surprised they never change their menu. It's a good deal and fun if you eat/drink in the bar or have the Sunset Menu. A couple in our party did have the Sunset Menu and were happy with their choices since they had a app and entree for $25.75 . I really wanted the Sea Bass so I ordered off the regular menu. I started with the green salad. Very tasty but a very small portion for $8. Then the Sea Bass, again tasty but a very small portion for $36.50. It was also very hot because we were there before sunset. So my recommendation is stick to the bar since they have some great specials.
Great craft cocktails.
However, tables in the patio area are placed way too close together, which in of itself, wouldn't have been a problem had our two top table not been sat next to a very large party of 25 - 30 people. Three tables with at least 10 people at each table who did not sit down and lingered and blocked aisle ways and walk ways for other patrons and servers.
Fortunately we were at the end of our meal and rushed out of there because the noise level once that party arrived was difficult to hold a conversation with my guest, who was just seated across from me. It was pretty obnoxious. The table we were sat at should never have been seated with that large party's impending arrival.
We were seated on the patio. I had requested a window table with a view and even though we were not on the window it was a very beautiful table. We ordered the fried green tomato w burrata and Calamari. The Calamari was sent back because of how salty it was but was probably a mistake and normally very good. The Burrata was an awkward dish and a little disjointed, would not order it again. For dinner we ordered the Halibut, Salmon & NY steak. WOW the Halibut & Salmon were amazing dishes!! I sent back the steak for being too tough but the seafood was ON POINT!! Our server brought our B- day girl a beautiful and yummy dessert with a candle and that made her night very special. Would love to return and our server was very attentive and pleasant.
I have been to this wonderful place a number of times over the years and it's always consistent. The service is fantastic (which is the main reason I go back). The food is pretty decent, but not over the top. The ambiance and setting is delicious and in a perfect location in Del Mar.
