Pacific Catch - Sunset District Ratings and Reviews
Pacific Catch is a reliable option for Hawaii-inspired cuisine in the Inner Sunset neighborhood. Good food, lots of fish options, albeit a little rich (coconut shrimp is delicious but three shrimp are enough, believe me). The lobster bisque needs to be served hotter. Otherwise no complaints. Service was acceptable. They ran out of my wine selection so they gave the more expensive option for the same price, which is nice. The only downside is that this is a family restaurant so you will run into screaming kids and messy tables most of the time. Plan to return next time I'm in the neighborhood and try to sit at the bar instead.
The drinks and food were very good. The one not so good I have is on service. I made reservations for 8:15 but we arrived 1/2 hour early. They gave us a pager and we sat at the bar for a drink. An hour later when the pager still hadn't gone off we asked the host about timing and found out they forgot about us and could seat us immediately. I originally found it odd that it was taking so long because there were a lot of empty tables. It wouldn't have been so bad but I hadn't eaten anything all day and we were on vacation with a group and they were all waiting to meet up with us after dinner.
We are regulars and we normally order the wasabi bowl. This recent visit was diasappointing because:
- the rice was not seasoned and missing the avocado in the wasabi bowl
- the hawaiian bowl lacked flavor
- the pineapple lemonade really had no pineapple flavor
The highlight was the boston creme malasadas and crab cakes.
This was my second visit to Pacific Catch and I was looking forward to reordering the dish I'd tried the first time. Unfortunately, the udon fell very flat and I didn't even finish a quarter of the meal. The broth was painfully salty and I felt my sodium levels rocket with every bite that I took. There was simply an overdose of soy sauce, and maybe straight up salt too, in that broth, that made it quite an unpleasant experience to eat. The shrimp also did not mesh with the broth at all. On its own, it was very yummy grilled shrimp. With the udon, it was a complete mismatch, with a smoky flavor that completely stood in contrast to the overwhelming saltiness in a strange way. I don't think I'll be visiting Pacific Catch anytime soon again.
On the plus side, the waiter was very nice.
We had a very delicious meal with great service. We have been coming here for several years, and I have to say that the interior of the restaurant appears very tired and could use some refreshing. The accessory dining room in the front of the restaurant also has a a body odor smell - this is the second time we have noted this and have asked to be re-seated. Hoping they are able to spruce things up soon!
The quality of the food has been getting worse with every visit. The server didn't write down our orders, which my husband hates because it causes room for error, which it did. The traditional poke was WAY too salty (too much soy sauce) and there was hair in my food. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The only reason we come back is because our kids love the salmon teriyaki bowl. As for myself, I'm pretty done with this place.
Service was great. Our waiter was super friendly and explained the specials thoroughly. The food was just a bit of a disappointment, especially considering how expensive this place is. Salmon was overcooked. Potatoes were undercooked. The salad was straight out of a spring mix from safeway. For $18 you would expect a higher quality salad. I really wanted to like this place, but alas it just wasn't that good.
The food was great. Unfortunately, our waiter was incredibly slow. It took 45 minutes from the time he took our order and the food arrived. In that time, I only saw him once. Since we had a 5 year old with us for dinner, the long delay was problematic. Our experience was go for the food, not the service.
