Pacific Catch San Mateo Ratings and Reviews
There was no parking available for my party of 3 anywhere in San Mateo. My daughter drove for over one hour visiting every garage but could not park. We wasted one hour of a special evening waiting for her join us. Our waitress told us that this happens all of the time. Take an Uber. You can't take your own vehicle to this location if you want to enjoy a relaxed dinner.
We had dinner here on a Thursday evening as a last minute spot for my husband's birthday. Was able to make a reservation within 30 minutes of expected time. Our server, Vinnie, was so attentive, patient and kind. The food overall was amazing. Every single dish we ordered, you could immediately taste the freshness. Would dine here again and again.
We had dined at Pacific Catch previously, and were pleased. This visit sorely disappointed. Two of us had dishes with chicken. The chicken was so rubbery that I could not cut it with the non-serated knife that was provided. The texture and taste were awful. Both of us with the chicken removed it from our meals and set it on an extra plate at the table. There was a large pile of chicken, and our server never inquired about it or asked how our meal was. The restaurant was filled with families with small children and was very loud. It was an unpleasant experience all the way around.
I enjoy Pacific Catch. It's a kid favorite with edamame and pretzel goldfish provided to snack on while you wait for entrees. The pokes are tasty, and I usually enjoy the salmon special. Good cocktails and for daytime unsweetened passion fruit iced tea. Service can be spotty.
To be fair. My ratings are low because I didn't make it to my reservation due to the nightmarish parking situation in that area at that time. There was no parking in any of the area garages or in the street. Very frustrating. Drove away when I was 30 min late for my reservation.
Our server was not good at all, but I would return because the food was delicious and I would ask for Vinnie to be our server. He was not our server that evening but he was kind enough to attend to us when our server was MIA.
Everyone has a bad day/night so I am not sure if she had to many tables or it was a bad evening for her.
One of my favorite restaurants in San Mateo, eat there frequently. I also love restaurants that use open table for reservations, so easy and convenient. Pacific Catch does a great job, has something for everyone, very interesting bar specials. Shouldn't be missed.
It was our second visit there since our old favorite (the fish market restaurant) went off the rails. We especially like the poke and the fish tacos, although the dishes including the trout entree tend to be a little 'oversauced' imho. Service was a gold star as it was last time, so definitely a feature that prompts a return visit for us. It can be noisy there on a busy night but when any restaurant is full, its something to expect. Tends to be a little pricey for the amount of food, but fresh fish is not a cheap commodity. I recommend you try it.
I'm a regular here and usually it's pretty good but this time we went for dinner with some friends and the most expensive item rib eye steak was thin and overdone we asked for medium rare and it came out well and tough , the kimchi rice was too salty couldn't eat after 2 bites.
we will only go here for happy hour.
Love Pacific Catch. Great drinks selection with delicious food. It's right across the theater. It's a great place to grab a bite before or after the movie. Favorite drink is Pisco Sour. Favorite food is mix catch basket as well as the poke chirashi. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed!
Our waitress was very attentive and very friendly. She was patient in answering all the questions I had on some of the dishes. What she didn't know, she found the answers and relayed them to me. I forgot her name, sorry. But, I remember her well. She was tall with short hair that was pink! Please relay my thank you to her for me. Parking complex was conveniently close to the restaurant, which makes it a plus to return to dine again at this San Mateo Pacific Catch.
We made reservation for after the movie (Arrival was great) and were seated immediately. My manhattan was really good and the food was great. It was a bit noisy for me, but it was tolerable. Not conducive for discussing the movie, but fun people watching.
We like the food and it so convenient to the theater.
I have gone here just a few times. Liked it as a late lunch because more quiet then. Hostess attentive. Wait staff pleasant. Fish and chips good but small pieces of fish. Sweet potato fries yum as was their dessert. Appreciate they have Thanx loyalty program.
I requested a table on the back patio for a birthday surprise on a weeknight, and the staff were great and seated a group of four before myself and the birthday boy showed up, and he was totally surprised! The food here is healthy, tasty, creative, and a good value. Love Pacific Catch!
