PABU - Boston

One of my absolute favorite places in the city. Every time people come to visit, we take them here. The food is just incredibly delicious every time. The ambiance and decor are beautiful. There's honestly only one thing that is inconsistent and it's the service. It's been a hit or miss the last few times we've gone. When it's good, it's great. When it's not, it's because it's SO SLOW. The last time I went, we pretty much felt like our waiter forgot about us. Otherwise, this place is pretty perfect.
Sushi and sashimi were very fresh and presented nicley
Great place. My second time here.
I went with a group of girlfriends. And we each ordered the luxury omakase.!The food was spectacular, and our server was so helpful and provided amazing service! Overall, we had a wonderful experience.
Loved the food! Friendly waiters. Miso soup was unique with clams and mushrooms, and delicious. Fried chichen kaarage was my favorite. Service was a tad on the slow side but we weren’t in a hurry so it was still enjoyable.
We were there to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday night - the bartender was wonderful and gave us some complimentary bubbles to celebrate, which was lovely. Our waitress, however, was terrible. My single drink came after the bottle of wine, we ordered appetizers including a octopus salad that we kept waiting for and after 35 minutes she told us they were all sold out.
We had to flag her down for many things -- it just ruined our experience. I had read other reviews saying the service wasn't great, but went despite them. There is tremendous competition in the sushi marketplace and Pabu needs to work on their service before we go back.
Loved it! Had dinner before going to a show in the theater District. Servers were great in making sure we were taken care of within our time constraints. Food was fabulous. Very fresh. Very traditional Japanese. Grilled squid was a treat and the unagi sushi was possibly the best I’ve ever had. Looking forward to a return visit.
Was looking forward to Pabu, but unfortunately found that style triumphed over substance. The sushi was fresh and good, but the maki was uninspired. Side dishes were limited and just so-so. Wine list was pricey and didn’t seem tailored to the food. Service was attentive, but impersonal. Some work to do here.
The food was good, but not amazing. For the price, I expected more.
The food was mediocre for the price. The sushi was not fresh , the roll was just so-so. the 5 course omakase was nothing to write home about and it took too long even though it was a slow night with lots of empty tables. It they brought out everything at once, you could finish the whole meal in 5 minutes. Ther service is just OK for an expensive and fancy restaurant. We paid close to $300 ($75/person) after the $85 Travaelzoo discount and it was totally not worth it. I don't think we will be back, that is sad considering it's only a 5 minutes walk from our apartment.
It is a gorgeous place for friends to get together. Food is delicate.
The quality of the food is beyond amazing. The service is excellent. The attention to detail is perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anybody for any occasion.
Beautiful space with a great energy. We really enjoyed the food and drinks, and the service was inviting and perfectly paced.
I continue to love this place. We don’t eat sushi which is a big draw to many but the what we do eat here is quite good. It’s not a big space and it can get loud sometimes but overall it’s still thumbs up.
Food and service were outstanding. Great experience and would recommend to anyone in the Boston area.
Would have been fabulous as usual except for noisy bar party and our mistake of ordering bar food peekytoe crab pancake for one of the dishes
Everything else was the best this side of Tokyo as usual!
Not enough staff. Food sequence took too long. Waited over 20min between plates. It’s unfortunate because the food is great but just needs a staff that can deliver
Overrated. Rolls and sashimi are food court quality but three times the price. There are some fancies items like ‘happy spoon’ didn’t taste fancy. Most dishes people were raving about on Yelp are no longer on the menu. What’s left now is just typical rolls and they were under par
High quality fish, definitely best sushi I’ve had on the east coast. Fried chicken starter is amazing as well.
Not good. Did the omakase menu, and my husband and I were totally disappointed. $400 later, I still can’t believe it. Uninspired, bland, and boring courses. 3 courses of nigiri and a cold pear dessert was the finale. No creativity at all. And, my water glass and wine glass smelled like fish. My hands still smell like fish as I write this. Do not get the omakase menu. What a rip off.
If you have the time, and funds, try the chef menu. Amazing! 8 courses of highly selective Japanese seafood. Taste, preparation and service were exceptional. Beat meal by far I’ve had - EVER.
I LOVE Pabu!
I wish I had discovered it earlier- I would have eaten there more often!
I sat at the sushi bar so I could watch meals being prepared
The chef there talked and answered sushi/fish questions between crafting different dishes
Pabu is now on my list of places to go- and not just for Dine Out Boston events!!
Good food as always but we hoped they could update their menu more frequently.
Great Sushi and Fish selection. The Clams and Mussels were exquisite. The aji, Toro, Hamachi, squid, wagyu, kurobuta were top notch. Very good options available for vegetarians. The shishito, Mushroom tempura, the corn, the lotus root and mushroom, the Cucumber & Squash maki were very good. The wine and sake menu are extensive. Very knowledgeable staff. Keep up the Good work!!
Portion is way too small. Not quite worth the price tbh. The service is excellent tho.
Food was very sub-par for price. I would not recommend it at all. Went during restaurant week.
Quite noisy. The food is reasonably good but v overpriced.
outstanding food and service that exceeded all expectations Not rushed so we could eat at our own pace. Who knew how good potato puree and fried chicken could taste
Just a shout out on the service. I had mentioned we were celebrating a 30th birthday when I booked the reservation through OpenTable, and the attention to that detail by staff was incredible. Every person we interacted with knew it was my friend's birthday. In addition to the awareness of his birthday, there was a happy birthday card and a dessert. Really amazing night and thank you so much!
Everything is great about this place except the portion. This is the only place that offers omakase that I feel did not have enough. But individual course is of very high quality. I will have to consider whether I will visit again because the meal does not justify the price.
Extremely high end sushi, Japanese skewers, and steak. We had a wonderful experience. Priced for special occasions rather than casual dining.
We had wonderful service and all the dishes were amazing.
Celebrated our first anniversary here. Staff went above and beyond to make it special, but we all know it’s all about the food. It was perfect. Delicate gyoza, perfect barrel fish nigiri, amazing foie gras, but nothing beats the cherry wood smoked a5 wagyu. I look forward to celebrating my next anniversary here as well.
PABU is great, the food, the service and environment. It may be the best Japanese place in Boston. I went there on my birthday, and they wrote me a birthday card!
However, it's a little pricey.
A lovely meal. Fresh ingredients, seasoned excellently and awesome sake list. The pace if serving was more European style rather than American, a welcomed feature. Future visits ahead are in the horizon
Overall was great experience. The tofu dish was really good. Tofu is my favorite. They did good job. The dessert that we ordered was donut puff. Really really good. Very light. Freshly made. Recommend to order.
I am a Japanese. The foods taste really nice and same as original Japanese foods.
