Ozumo - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
I felt compelled to write a review because so many of the reviews I read before going were not positive. I chose to go anyway due to the convenience next to my hotel and the idea that happy hour would make it better if the food and service were sub par. I had the complete opposite experience. I sat at the bar and ordered sushi rolls and wine. The bartenders were extremely friendly and helpful on the menu, not just one bartender but all. Then the food came and it was delicious. Probably the best California roll I have ever have. I decided to continue with some pork ribs and more wine, excellent choice. I had such a great experience that I went again late-in the week with a co-worker. We had a table this time and had the same great experience. Attentive service, accommodating to gluten free and substitution requests. If you are on the fence, try it out.
A beautiful restaurant that serves good (not great) sushi and sashimi. It’s a bit pricey for the tiny portions, which would be okay if the food was top quality. Our server was rather inattentive, and had a habit of ignoring our attempts to get his attention. Another problem is the noise level. The place was very full, but that doesn’t have to mean a 100 decibel atmosphere.
Ozumo has always been a restaurant we go to for special occasions since it is pricey for our budget. Everything was delicious (and we love their Gindara) except for the Zen dessert which was aesthetically beautiful but did not work for our palette. The mochi dessert was excellent. You can skip their ice creams---too subtle in flavor. The restaurant now attracts the young, wealthy techies which creates a different atmosphere---young people who can casually choose the tasting menu for dinner and sake and drop $250. easily . Not our peeps. But I'm glad the restaurant is doing well.
Came in a group of 4 for ramen on a rainy day. Food is and has always been stellar; however the service was slow as it sometimes is at lunch. For the price you expect more attention from the staff- took 15 minutes to order and 15-20 minutes to receive our beers. Recommend sitting at the bar if you want to keep lunch to close to an hour- took 1.5 for just ramen and 2 beers.
I was rather disappointed. The service lagged slightly (had to wait for tea and for requested additional wasabi), the tables were just a tad too close together to have a good conversation, the sushi pieces were not particularly generous and they tried too hard with the miso soup. The wait staff was friendly, though, and the atmosphere is impressive.
Three stars is a poor review because there are so many great places to eat. Service was excellent. Food was sub par. Ordered new year special skewers 3 meat, tempura and sea bass. Portions were super tiny and cooking was nothing great and not even good. San Francisco street food is better than this place. Will NEVER EVER return. Pricey on top of everything.
This was my first time here and we were very excited and ordered a lot of items. We didn't get a chance to do the tasting menu. Maybe I'll be back to try that, I doubt it though. Overall, I thought all of the food was good and fresh, but not exceptional. For the price that I am paying I am expecting exceptional food. I actually went to eat at Yuzuki the next night and enjoyed the quality of food there more.
The service was horrendous , waiter didn’t pay any attention and brought entree before appetizer and drinks. Edamame was uncooked. Calamari two ways was chewy and unbeatable .
We go to many sushi or Japanese restaurants all over the Bay Area this was by far one of the worst and will never be back, for the quality of the food and service is overly expensive and totally not worth it!
Slow and innatentive service was a major detriment to the evening. The initial drink order took 15 minutes at which time we were told the bar could not make one of the requested cocktails. When the order was finally delivered 10 minutes later a white wine was brought instead of red. The waiter then asked if we wanted appetizers, which we had ordered with the initial drink order. This was typical of the service throughout the evening. We ordered one of the 4 listed specials only to be told later that it was not available. How does a restaurant list a special that is not in stock for a 7:00 pm reservation? The final order of sushi was brought to the table so long after we finished the main courses that we had forgotten we ordered it. Ozumo is priced at the high end of the market. Bad service and lack of coordination between servers & bar, and services & kitchen is really not acceptable for a restaurant of this level. The dinner service was a mess. The food was good; the miso black cod was excellent.
We had a great time. We had a late reservation so that may have been a factor I in our server. He wasn't bad...he just seemed a little disinterested. Did not tell us about specials or ask if we wanted to hear them. The food was amazing! And beautiful! The bar is a bit loud but the dining room is more subdued.
