Food was good. Not great. For $55 the sashimi platter was not great. Fish cut into very thick slabs which I don’t love.
Service was terrible. Ordered the edamame with garlic and soy. Didn’t get it. So asked about it. And they finally delivered the regular salted. When I asked the gal for what we ordered she said “but this was what was on the ticket” So had to ask again. Finally got it towards end of meal. Also ordered waters. We also had to ask for those and they arrived at the end.
I asked for more wasabi as just a tiny bit on the plate. They forgot to bring that too. So I asked again.
Overall we spent a lot of time looking to catch the eye of the waitress who didn’t like to look over. Strange as the restaurant wasn’t that busy.
She never even asked us if we had what we needed after the entree came. Strange because if you charge $55 for one very unimpressive entree I would think you’d try to make up for it with great service.
She was kind enough not to charge us for the edamame. Which is good as it was brought at the end.
I’ve been there a number of times and generally love this place. So hoping this was just an off day.
It was great except it was super overpriced and we still weren’t full after the meal
Overpriced. Under delivered. Just not spectacular, esp. for the $200 bill for 2.
Let me start by saying that I am a local San Francisco native and worked in the area for years. This restaurant has seriously degraded, wasn't always that way. The food isn't all that good and the portions minuscule for the price. Invited 5 co-workers and all of them got the same measly small portions. C'mon Ozumo, a cod benton box for $28 and all I get is less than an appetizer. Won't be returning or recommending....
We dined during Restaurant Week when the 3-course dinner was advertised for $40/person. It was actually $65/person and not worth the price. The first course of yellowtail and avocado in ponzu sauce was tasty and the fish was fresh. The sushi set was average at best. My wife had the shiozake, which was OK but no rice was provided as part of the set menu. The dessert of matcha panacotta had no matcha taste but lots of roasted sesame on top, which is OK if you like sesame. We are small eaters, but the overall quantity was too little even for us.
Went for the restaurant week. Ordered a restaurant week special dinner, a Omakase dinner and a grill duck appetizer special for two of us. The food portion are so little. Sushi is small (much smaller than other upscale Japanese restaurant). Food quality is above average. Ambiance is nice with limited view to the bay and bridge through windows.
Very nice and fancy restaurant, however, quite overpriced for the quality you get (eg the Omakaze)
The sushi is perhaps the best in the city, and this meal was more of the same. We had a duck appetizer that was a daily special, and I mentioned to the waiter that it was "a little disappointing" (it was a little on the dry side), and the next thing I knew, the manager was coming by, and said they'd take it off the bill, which was above and beyond.
I do a lot of entertaining for work and I always bring people to Ozuma. The food and the service is always top rate. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it.
Service wasn’t great, but the sushi made up for it. Amazing sushi!
Food was great, service was miserable, waiter disappeared after 15 minutes.
The ambiance is outstanding. We sat by the window overlooking the Bay bridge which made for a great picture. The staff is very fast and professional. Sushi and food was tremendous. You must try the red bean icecream after dinner.... incredible!!! Thank you Uzumo staff for a great night out.
Ended up going here for New Year’s Eve and the food, the ambience and our waiter, Danny, were all great.
Came for NYE and had a great time. We were sat at he bar with a great view of the bridge. They didn't have a prix fixe menu like all the restaurants here did, which was nice. Food here is always amazing -- fresh & delicious! I was surprised that the kitchen still closed early (11pm) I would think for NYE, it would stay open longer. I was also hoping to ring in the new year at the bar so we could watch the fireworks but we were kinda rushed off to the lobby area where they gave us champagne. (Great except no view) We downed our champagne and rushed off outside to watch the fireworks & ring in the new year. They did have a geisha but she left before we could take more pictures. It was a great nite but would've been better if they did something more special to ring in the new year. The lobby was pretty empty and was expecting to be more people. The cocktails were something I would definitely come back for, especially the giddy geisha!!
Great for a nice dinner or special occasion
Nice food and friendly service although took a while for our drinks to arrive. Overall ambience is very nice but mixture of people dressed smart and others dressed down.
Food was phenomenal. Waitress who took our order was not helpful. As this was our first time there and the menu was unfamiliar to us, we needed to take our time. She said she had to take all of our order all at once because it was a high-volume night (New Year’s Eve). We understood the issue, but with a $300 bill, it would have been nice not to be rushed.
We went here for two family birthdays and were greeted warmly at the door by friendly and attentive staff. Our table was in a beautiful dining area centered by the sushi station. There is a full bar and extensive sake menu. We all enjoyed the whisky, sake and unique cocktails. My daughters loved the non alcoholic passion fruit drink. The brussel sprout appetizer and beet salad were flavorful. Our favorite main dishes included the Gindara (grilled black cod) and Tokyo Gyu (wagyu rib eye steak). I still dream about the choco-chan dessert which is a flourless chocolate cake with a matcha-ganache filling & matcha ice cream - such a perfect combination of flavors. We also had the house handcrafted ice cream which included 3 flavors that were all wonderful. I have also been to Ozumo for a large work lunch in a private room and would recommend that as well.
We had a great server but the portions are very small. The food is very good but way too overpriced!
The hospitality director (Mel) and the staff were amazing - fantastic service and the food was great! Highly recommend this restaurant! Will be back when in SFO again!
Muy Excellente !
Great food, cool design — lovely drinks... was most excellente ✨
This place was amazing – – quite expensive, but outstanding. At the level of the sushi den, Denver, if you know what I mean.
The portions are small but well made. They are creative with interesting tastes. Everything was cooked/prepared well. However some of the sauces did not seem to go with the dish. The sushi was definitely the best dish we had. In addition, the service was slow. This might have been because we went on Christmas Eve, not sure.
This is one of my favorite places in the city. If you happen to be there a night with a special course offering, do it. The service is exceptional and we will continue coming here.
Really good. Really expensive but amazing food!
Perfect special occasion place. From appetizers to dessert it was a 10!
Absolutely phenomenal. As soon as you walk in you are overwhelmed with how beautiful the decor and ambiance is. They welcome you as if you’re VIP and the food just exemplifies it all. Completely outstanding meal. 10/10 and I never say that
The reservation was for 1:30, and I would have gone elsewhere if I’d known the kitchen closed at 2 pm. Server was busy and I had to call him over to our table to order drinks and something to share then waited a long time for those to arrive. Eventually the server came by to let us know we had to order quickly because the kitchen was closing. Then the appetizer arrived after the shared entree and we felt pressure to eat quickly and leave.
Food was good but definitely not the best experience.
Decided to eat in the bar as the great food on the bar menu is only served there. Impeccable service. Scallops and Cod on dinner menu are absolutely amazing.
The service staff was special- from the waiter, the chefs, and the manager - made my wife’s 74th birthday party unforgettable! Thank you for the memory.
Good place for business lunch meetings or a semi-special occasion. I've been a few times, but this past dinner with four people had horrible service. I know they can do better.
Great place for a social meal. Lively ambiance.
It’s was a Ladies night out. We can before going to the Cirque du Soleil show. And my girls friends treated me to a belated birthday dinner. Our waiter was great with his suggestions of food and sake. We has a great time!
Hip and happening, delicious sushi, great location.
Ozumo Is consistently delicious and wonderfully reliable for business lunches and date nights!
We had a great experience here.
Welcoming was great., they have a nice coat check service. The ambiance was great.
When it came to food, we ordered few rolls and few side dishes. All fresh and tasty.
Enjoyed our dinner here and drinks.
Would go back again :)
We just love it all! It’s been our favorite japanese downtown for years
