Very busy---very loud---but good energy. A "fun" place. Handmade guac was excellent. Meatballs were spicy and good. Enchilada was above average. The tacos were a big greasy (esp the meat tacos). Tacos are also quite small. It's an expensive place. $65 for a pitcher of margaritas (which were very tasty)---not hard for two people to spend $150 total (with a tip).

We love the place for years, but churros disappointing and table next to us thought so too. Great service and authentic Mexican cuisine.

The waiter was pretty rude to us, rushing us out as soon as we sat down. The food was decent but not a good value.

Great margaritas, mexican food that's upscale and fun, good for after work with friends - just the right amount of noise that you can talk but still feel great energy.

Great food. The small plates are more filling than the server advertised so don't over-order Save room for dessert.

This was not my first trip to Oyamel, and it won’t be my last! Great food, awesome margs, and good service. Can be very busy, and sometimes loud, but it’s always at the top of my list for a mid-week dinner date

Oyamel is one of the two or three best restaurants in DC. It is always a delight. The noise level does tend to be high, but the food and ambiance are worth it.

This place always hits it out of the ball park with food and drinks. I always highly recommend the salt air margarita. The tuna ceviche was really great and the Brussels sprouts were the highlight of our meal. The chorizo quesadillas are also always very good.

There was a little bit of confusion when the waitress ran our cards and she accidentally charged my friend full amount on her card when it should have been half but the manager promptly came to explain that it would be fixed.

We were seated right away, and our server was knowledgeable and helpful about the menu, ready to recommend favorite dishes that matched our preferences. Their standard chips & salsa are outstanding, and the guacamole was a big serving for 2 people.

It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't too bad by DC standards--even with three cocktails and pleeenty of food, our bill came to about $100 (before tip), and we could have ordered differently and still been satisfied.

It was a nice spot for a date, but it would also be good for a group. Great choice if you're seeing something at the Lansburgh down the street. We'll be back!

Hadn't been in awhile. Not going back. Jaleo is way superior (yes, both have same wonderful parent company/owner). Some tapas were dry; others too salty. Service and setting were fine; it was a midweek date so it was quiet. Wanted to have another place to go before theater but not here.

Sent my wife and one of her friends there as a Christmas gift. I had called in advance to give them a credit card number to pay their tab, and ordered wine to be brought to their table as soon as they sat down. No wine when they arrived, and the waiter brought them the check. My wife had to tell them herself that they should have my card number. Also tellingly, when I sent the restaurant an email afterward asking what happened, I never heard back.

Otherwise my wife seemed to have a good time and liked the food.

Not what it used to be...ingredients are not as high quality as when the restaurant opened years back. Meat and vegetables and condiments and toppings seemed lower quality, more like fast food tacos (we tried 8 different types of tacos, and also side dishes). For $15 guacamole, would expect to see fresh(er) avocados, guac prepped table side - but not the case.
Table was dirty when we were seated, had to ask them to clean it. Agree with other reviews that the best thing they have going are their chips and salsa.

Oyamel was fantastic as always. They now offer a chef's tasting menu, which was great to see as an option. Our favorite dish is the shrimp with peppers, shallots, and blackened garlic.

Another great meal at an Andres restaurant. We all had tacos for lunch. I had the Mahi Mahi, pork with pickled red onions and the potato with Swiss chard. They were all delicious. The fish taco had a spicy slaw that paired well with the fish, the onions gave a nice vinegar zip to the pork, and the potato Swiss chard wound up being my favorite. We all had to try the margarita with salt foam which gave the drink a fun twist and we shared a wonderfully moist tres leches dessert with caramel ice cream and rum flavored whipped cream. Everyone loved everything they ate. The restaurant was fairly slow so we were able to take our time, relax and visit with one another. The music was a bit loud, but the slapstick film playing silently in the background was a fun diversion.

My fave place to go downtown for a bite. Some items still amazing. A few not so good. Churros ok, chocolate sauce is weak thin cocoa, and coffee was just bad.

Drinks still good but sloooooow to arrive even when place isn't packed. A basic margarita should be fast.
