Unbearably noisy. Pity.
Way too loud!
It was fun.....even when the fire truck came!!!
Fun atmosphere. Fresh and delicious food. Able to accommodate larger parties nicely.
MUCH too noisy--and I will say this until I reach the 50-character requirement
Everything is fine overall, service is good. But inside is too much noisy and the portions are smaller than it should be.
Everything we ate was delicious and our waitress was superb! The only downside is the size of the servings. They tell you that before you order.
Great food and great service in a casual setting
Great food overall with very few misses (mole sauce on fries was a not so happy Mexican version of poutine and the Ahi tuna was cooked rather than raw in the salad, giving it a very fishy taste). Would recommend the guacamole, margaritas (great balance of flavor) and the chicken tamale and fish tacos. A few hiccups with delivery of our food but the waiter was really good about it and very friendly. Very noisy.
Comida y servicio genial. El precio es alrededor de 40$ por persona para salir bien. Los cócteles buenísimos. Lo peor el ruido, que te obliga a pasarte la cena gritando para hablar con el que tienes al lado.
Oyamel is charming. I've been for lunch and prefer it for lower noise level. Guacamole is delicious. We had 2 bowls with hot taco chips. Also had garlic shrimp, 2 brussel sprouts, ff, red snapper fish, pork tamale, caesar salad, and mixed fish dish. This was for four people. They recommend 2-3 dishes person. We were happy with our selection and the amount and quality.
My husband and I were in town visiting friends and were able to make a last-minute reservation for an early dinner. The hostess was less friendly but the wait staff was incredible — punctual with all dishes without bombarding us, knowledgeable, clearly enjoyed their work, and didn’t rush us out. All dishes were delicious as were the drinks. We would absolutely return!
Birthday dinner for hubby but never offered dessert and we had our daughter with us and asked if they would move us to a quiet corner seat that was open but they would not. So we sat in a high traffic area at a uncomfortable table feeling like we were always in the way and it was so loud we had to rush to eat so we could leave. So disappointing and will never go back... they claim kid friendly but they are not.
This is a great place, with great food, and very well located. Unfortunately, it must be one of the noisiest restaurants in DC (my decide app registered up to 94.6 dB).
Service was amazing. All food was tasty... the guacamole is a must!
Chapulines were too too lime-y (tart) and quite salty. The pescado taco was solid and the lengua guisado taco was doooope. Ceviche con cítricos was good too.
I have been to Oyamel many times and love the food. The Service was very slow this time but an otherwise enjoyable meal.
We were very excited to try a “Mexican tapas” restaurant and were very disappointed. Our server may have been having a bad day but he seemed very disengaged and did not say “you’re welcome” or even smile. With my first conversation asking about cocktails, he seemed to disregard our attempts to understand their menu.
We ordered the “no spice” guacamole and it was very spicy. I realize I am no expert but we could see certain peppers and taste the spice.
This may have been an “off” day for this server but would caution anyone who has a lower spice tolerance.
It was unbelievably enjoyable, a lively atmosphere with incredible service.
Not great for kids
Expensive for the amount of food.
My kids left hungry.
Great food as always, but so loud we were unable to have a conversation or even hear our waitress.
Too noisy. The waitresses’s recommendation that we have 3 to 5 “small plates“ was wrong. One small plate would have been sufficient. I didn’t like the food very much either, but that’s because it was too spicy. Also the tamale with ~mole sauce was not very good. This may be because I really don’t like authentic Mexican food. Would not go there again.
We had the lunch special and it was an excellent choice! Vibrant flavors, beautifully presented, fabulous variety. The tongue tacos were rich and delicious. The mole tamal blended so perfectly with the pickled onions it was served with. My husband loved his shrimp. He got the chocolate dessert; I got the tres leches dessert - both inventive with lots of bursting flavors. We loved it!!
Food was not good especially for vegetarians. Drinks were watered down and there was a lot of noise.
Young and loud. Don’t go for a peaceful date if you want to talk to your partner.
Best Mexican food ever, including in Mexico!
Excellent guac. Some new flavors. Just really noisy.
Good food, and very good service.
But the volume - on a Monday night - is deafening. I had to read the lips of the people across the table from me. If I want to stand in jet engine-level noise, I'll go the airport. It's not something I'm looking for in a dinner outing.
Probably wouldn't go again as the noise colored the entire experience.
The food and service are inconsistent. For example, some times I received avocados with the delicious chicken rice soup and some times they will tell me that there are or are not avocados. And the chips and salsa come at different times- some times right away after the order and other time I must request it. There many many examples of this inconsistent service and food. The bar is the best.
We had a great time for Father’s Day dinner...food and service were very good...
Best Mexican cuisine in DC! Beautiful art work and super friendly staff
Our first time at Oyamel! The ambience was perfect for our date night! The food was great as well as the drinks! Our server was very attentive as well and even gave us recommendations since we were first time guest. I would definitely go back for the Nopal asado con salsa molcajete(grilled cactus). It was very good I was shocked!
I was lucky to be able to make reservation on Saturday 5PM. I loved cactus salad.
Enjoyed the ambiance and the food.
Had a great time with our son! My girlfriend and I enjoyed all of our food.
We waited an extra 20 minutes after the hour of our reservation. The women in the reception weren't nice. The food is only ok, the drinks are really good. Be prepare to wait a lot of time to get your food.
A friend and I went for lunch, and enjoyed the special where you choose one taco and two small plates. The Brussel sprouts were awesome!!
Awesome as usual.
