I was slightly disappointed by this restaurant. We ordered several ceviches and while most were good one was very fishy. In addition the service felt slightly rushed. The staff kept removing/asking us to hand over plates while we were still eating. Also while we were still eating our meal, for example one person in our party was literally mid taco bite, we were being asked if we wanted dessert and when we said no we were told they would get us the check.

Food was fantastic. Love the different ceviches, and two of the specials, the enchiladas and the queso hongo should be on the regular menu. Great. Service was spot on, we did not feel rushed and the dishes were space out appropriately. Great job by Kenary G. Highly recommend everything about this restaurant.

Oyamel is another triumph for Jose Andres. My go-to is the blood orange margarita. The ceviches are must-try, and the tacos are crowd favorites. Last but not least, their made to order guacamole is obligatory. Definitely check out Oyamel!

As regular visitors to the Shakespeare Theatre we have been going to Jaleo since it opened. This time we decided to go to Oyamel. Everything was up to expectations EXCEPT the noise level was intolerable. Well, maybe there was an unusually large crowd on a Monday evening because there was an upcoming hockey game at the Cap One Center. We might give Oyamel another try, just to see. But if the noise level is normally that bad we will not return.

ps: the recommendation is conditional on the acceptability of the noise level.

The lunch special of two apps and a taco or an app, taco, and dessert for $20 was great. I had the Shrimp app with poblano mole and black garlic - delicious! The pork taco with pickled onions was small but enough. The tres leches dessert was simply amazing and I know tres leches! My friend had the shrimp torta which she enjoyed. The side salad looked uninspiring - romaine with lots of white cheese on top -- a bit of avocado, tomato or some topping would have been better. The guacamole was also very good, fresh-made.

Will go again - next time ceviche! I've also heard Happy Hour is great. I'll be back!

Wonderful! A great dining experience with attentive service. Perfect ore-concert dinner with friends. Small plates mean you can sample a variety of items that are creative and prepared beautifully!

The chips and guacamole are very tasty, and we liked the tacos, too. The restaurant is very crowded and noisy, and feels a bit chaotic and messy to me.

We've always enjoyed our time at Oyamel. The food is typically outstanding, and it has a great drink list. Last weekend we went to Oyamel for brunch and were unfortunately disappointed with the quality and timing of the food. Our eggs and one taco turned up to our table no less than 5 minutes after we ordered it, and it was cold. Almost 20 minutes later some dishes from the remaining part of our order were delivered to our table, warmer, but at that point our experience was already a bit of a miss.

I’ve been to Oyamel many times and always enjoy it. This time we were seated at a booth in the back, which was perfect since it tends to get really loud!

Oyamel is packed tables, small plates, expensive drinks, and hit or miss menu items. The tacos are the reason I keep coming back - The crispy pork belly taco was the star of our last dinner. I would come back, once I forget again how pricey it is for so little.

Best dishes we had were the Brussel Sprouts and Dry-Aged Beef Ribs. Cocktails - especially the blood orange and pomegranate margarita (with the Salt Air) were excellent. Will go back soon and try some other dishes, but will be ordering the Ribs and Brussel Sprouts again!

I would come back here for the Ceviche bar and their amazing churros. No, I would RUN back for their Ceviche bar. But the so called "best" Margaritas in DC, and the tasting menu...not even kinda worth it.

Great service, fantastic food, noisy restaurant (not in a bad way). Their cocktails are good, not amazing, but it’s s one of the better programs in the city I️ think. Mezcal/agave oriented drinks can be tough to come by, and that’s a plus. Absolutely reccomend this place.

Oyamel is always fun and lively. Enjoyed dinner this eve. The food was GREAT, and Amir provided excellent service. Not thrilled with sitting down at 7:05, with a 6:45 reservation. But that's really the only complaint. Will go back for sure.

The food and service was very good. The food is traditional Mexican food which was new to my wife and I. My choices were great - my wife was not as pleased with her meal - so it is a bit of a gamble if you are not familiar with the cuisine. Also, the service was very quick, so it is a good spot for a quick lunch.

Generally the food is excellent, we ordered 4 dishes to share, however this time 3 dishes were very good and one dish had hardly any discernible tastes at all, which was very disappointing. We both tried it and left it after one taste.
The service was excellent and the ambiance ideal.

This place was great! The food was phenomenal and the drinks were delicious. Our server was a little distracted and preoccupied, but the pacing of the meal was good. Every taco is completely absorbingly delicious and the desserts were unique and incredible. Would go again, but you must make a reservation.

My wife and I were in Baltimore for a conference and drove down to DC to have dinner with our daughter and son, both of whom live in the DC area. None of us had been to Oyamel before, although my wife and I have been to Jaleo. The evening was wonderful. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. My wife is from Mexico City but she was very pleased with the cuisine and said it was very authentic. We would definitely return to Oyamel in the future.

This was a fantastic evening! We ate at 9:30, which was a great time but could have been even later- still bustling up until 11, when we left. The food is heavenly. I've been there for brunch but never dinner before, and both are absolutely worth it.

Oyamel serves fantastic, imaginative Mexican cuisine at surprisingly low prices (for everything but the guacamole, which is terrific but pricey, as it seems to be at every Mexican restaurant). I’ve eaten here maybe fifty times over the past five years and have never been disappointed.

Amazing food and service! The place is a little loud - we had a super screamy table right behind us but the ceilings just let the noise bounce right down on top of us. But we had a fantastic meal. The quesadillas and cerveza were the highlights. We would definitely go back.

Oyamel has an excellent lunch special. One had the brisket, one had the beef tongue--both were accompanied by a ceaser salad. The complimentary chips and salsa never last long--particularly when you get their freshly made guacamole. Excellent service and moderately priced.
