Great job by Tia. Food was terrific, chicken soup, salad and guacamole.

Oyamel needs to either increase their portion sizes or lower their prices. It is way too expensive for the food you get. Also, this especially holds true for the alcohol! I will gladly pay $13 for a margarita but it has to be larger than 7oz which is what they serve and it sucks. :/ we went to another bar afterwards to get real drinks.
Cool place but I won’t be going there again.

The guacamole and huevos rancheros are great, ask for over easy eggs though otherwise they will over cook it.

I had a great first experience at Oyamel! I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and come back. I was drawn to this restaurant after reading the wonderful reviews. The ambience made for a good start to the night out in DC for a date. We tried to freshly made Guac which was delicious. The pitcher of Margaritas was also a nice option ;-) I had never been to a "small plate" Mexican restaurant so it was fun to experiment this way but ordering multiple things! Great for a date.

Consistently excellent in all aspects of the business, i.e. atmosphere, art, food and beverage quality, service, handling reservations, etc. + a large variety of dishes. Recently returned from Oaxaca and Oyamel ranks with the best there.

Host staff are always stellar but table service staff and bartenders always leave a lot to be desired. They're curt, rude, and unhelpful. Not sure why Oyamel can't figure this out.

Food is always consistent but prices have been rising, this is disappointing as it's already quite expensive.

I love Jose Andres’ restaurants, but our experience at Oyamel this Sunday was very poor. Dishes came out very slowly - so slowly that we were full and didn’t want anymore. Even our drinks took forever. I had to hunt down our server to get our check.
I was surprised and saddened by the poor experience.

We are two for two for spotting Obamas at Oyamel at our last two visits! That would be enough, but the dishes made the night extra nice. Mushroom tacos, seviche (small serving but wonderful flavors), meatballs, shrimp. The only not so great was the mole dish, which I remember in past visits as a tasty chicken thigh. This time it was more like a sauced bit of breading.

Oyamel did not live up to expectations. We shared the Brussel sprouts as a table—they were much over-salted and too acidic. The waiter constantly seemed distracted. He dropped a chip in a half-full margarita glass and only offered to replace the glass. For the price of the pitcher, you’d think we could’ve gotten a replacement for the drink (or some kind of comp). The bright spot was the tamal de mole poblano. The sauce was smooth and flavorful.

It is not the first time that my husband and I have been to Oyamel. We really like it! The food is very good. It is a fusion of Spanish/Latin cuisine and served as "Tapas". The service is very professional and kind. The ambiance is also very pleasant. We highly recommend to make reservations in advance. Also, sitting at the bar is fun. The drinks are very good. If you are around downtown DC you should give it a try! It is worth the wait if it is not for more than 20 minutes.

We have come to Oyamel several times before. This time, we did not feel the food was as good as previously. Previously was 2 years ago.

Loved the broccoli, cauliflower and squash salad. Others were less impressive. Maybe we just didnt order the right items.

We are great fans of Jose Andre, though.

We met friends there for brunch/lunch and it was awesome. The staff was attentive without being in our way. Our waiter was really good at understanding dietary needs - in this case, gluten free and vegetarian. And the best part - the food was outstanding!

Our waiter was FANTASTIC. She had the perfect balance of being warm, responsive, and helpful without being obtrusive. She struck the right tone; she was there when we needed her and steered us in the right direction on the menu. She is exactly the person Oyamel should have on its staff. Our last few outings at Oyamel, the servers have seems rushed/ disinsterested/ not great. This is a huge improvement!

I wrote about a previous visit to Oyamel and the manager emailed to invite me to try it again.
I should say that everyone (especially Andres and Amir) went out of their ways to make our visit really enjoyable. The food was excellent and we got more we ordered- make sure to try the Brussel sprouts!!!! The margaritas beats any we have had in the district and the desserts were extremely taste.
Thank you Oyamel; it is always good to give someone a second chance!

We almost always eat here when in DC. Tapas oriented restaurant that offers new menu items often enough to stay on the cutting edge yet retain its identity. The crowd is always energetic. The food always wonderful and the service 5-Star and friendly. Some of the best quacamole anywhere.

I came in super bowl evening for dinner during a business trip. They had a Restaurant Week special that was very tasty and generously portioned. The atmosphere was relaxed and service was very attentive.
I would recommend to anyone who loves Mexican style small plates and drinks.

I am from Mexico, the food is good but nothing special, probably is more authentic than other places, but if you go to Mexico, you can find the same food, on the street food places.

Something that annoyed me that I saw somebody got small quesadillas, but when I tried to order the same thing, the waitress didn't understand, which was pretty frustrated, I said "I saw you serve a plate with small quesadillas like 5 or 6", but she gave me 1 big quesadilla cut in four, and I repeat and repeat again and she didn't understand the different between small quesadillas and one big quesadilla cutting in small pieces.

Oyamel never fails to WOW...a changing, diverse menu offers plenty to choose from...i frequent at least once a month--the lunch menu offerings are a very good value. Service always upbeat, but not intrusive. Unabashedly, I'll admit it's one of my DC favorites

It was our first time dining there and tried their Restaurant Week menu. Overall, everything was good except a shrimp dish. Shrimps we're over coocked and tough... They have amazing ceviche! We'll definitely go back there to try other things.

We ate here a few years ago and remembered it as better than it was on Saturday night, or maybe we just didn't choose our dishes as well. Some of the dishes were good and some just ok, cerviche was skimpy on the fish (very small pieces), a few things not warm enough, and the servers could use more finesse. We'll give it another try sometime but it will be awhile.

We were at Oyamel for Restaurant Week, so they had a 5 course menu for $35. I assume most of the dishes were staples. The food was all very tasty and well prepared. Best were the ceviche, smoked fish empanadas, and camarones. Nothing was a disappointment. Service was quick, the mezcal margaritas delicious (!), and the evening delightful. Tables are close together, and it’s noisy. We couldn’t really hear our soft spoken waitress, but we got by. Despite the noise (which seems to be unavoidable these days), we had a really nice meal and are looking forward to coming back on a regular night.
