Great food and good recommendations from the waitstaff. A little loud and moments of inattentive service, but I would recommend Oyamel and go back.

Where do I begin... I have never tasted such flavor in Mexican food!!! You can literally order anything here and it will taste great. The atmosphere is fun and lively, the servers are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, and the food came out in a timely manner. Only problem I had was when the waiter pressured us to order drinks when we didn't want to do so, it was too early and we weren't ready. He seemed dry for the rest of the night because of it. Otherwise, fantastic! Would recommend

The food here is great. However, the guacamole is not good and not worth the money. Also, I have eaten here many times and the waiters are VERY pushy. Over selling the guacamole and pushing us to buy more drinks - even when we clearly express we do not seek to drink anymore. The staff should back off a little bit. However, the food is worth it!

We can't visit DC and not visit a Jose Andres restaurant. This one is so vibrant...fun decor, friendly and helpful staff and most importantly, delicious food. The two of us enjoyed five small plates and left completely stuffed. The Papas al mole was our favorite. Although the pork belly quesadilla was also great. The Oyamel Margarita with the "salt air" was really good. We really appreciated the great service too.

The food was so obviously made in house. You could taste the fresh ingredients on every bite. The presentation was so inviting and beautiful. The ceviche bar was wonderful.

I've been to Oyamel several times before and thought it was fine, but the new menu is really a step up. Very much enjoyed the new options and dessert was divine. Only complaint was the noise level which was enough to break the sound barrier. Really impossible to have a civilized conversation.

Nice place, good ambience, great vibe. Service was good with a knowledgeable waiter. Tapas (single tapa for $4-5 each) were very good, especially the goat filled one. Guacamole was good but scallop ceviche was disappointing, marinade was nice & Limey but scallops were small and wimpy soft. Do not miss the Oyamel margarita which was outstanding.

This was my second visit to Oyamel and this visit was a bit of a disappointment. the service was flat and the guacamole was week and not prepared at the table.
Seems to be lacking what it used to hove.

All dishes were perfectly prepared (tacos, various vegetables, ceviche, desert...) The seasoning was spectacular - spicy enough, but not overwhelming. A little loud for me. I will be back.

The food was amazing and so were the drinks. We had their signature Margarita with the lime foam and it was really good.

The service could have been improved. Our waitress didn't check on us often and we wanted to order several more rounds of drinks but didn't because time was becoming an issue. It also took a long time to get drinks and appetizers - to the point where it almost seemed like an oversight, not just a busy kitchen. Our table of 5 ordered about 16 small plates and two items were never brought out and neither was one person's drink.

My mom is Mexican and really wanted to go, clearly both of us hoping for really spectacular foods. I fear people go for José Andrés and prestige... Also, the lunch menu where one can select two "antojitos" and a taco-- far too much food. I left albondigas because I was full and left my taco because it was bland. I wish we had gone to Jaleo.

The portions are small for the price and some of the dishes are too spicy - in that the spice overwhelms the taste of the food itself, particularly the ceviches which feature very fresh fish, which you can't taste. The place is great and the servers excellent but it is a pricey experience for not much food - or drink!

We have dined and lunched at Oyamel multiple times over the past five (six?) years. Fantastic every time. My wife eats gluten free, and that can be boring or a hardship at many restaurants, but not at Oyamel. Plan your reservations in advance - this is a spot that continues to have fans and newbies flowing in at all hours, lunch or dinner - you wouldn't want to find yourself on the outside looking in at all the fun and food!

A group of us went here for dinner, post-theater. It was great. The homemade chips, salsa and guacamole was outstanding. The ceviche was great, our cocktails were delicious and we enjoyed all five plates that we ordered and shared. It was busy at 5:30 on a Friday night and there was already a wait for a table or to get a seat at the bar, so I would highly recommend making a reservation. It was our first time to the restaurant, but won't be our last.

I was slightly disappointed by this restaurant. We ordered several ceviches and while most were good one was very fishy. In addition the service felt slightly rushed. The staff kept removing/asking us to hand over plates while we were still eating. Also while we were still eating our meal, for example one person in our party was literally mid taco bite, we were being asked if we wanted dessert and when we said no we were told they would get us the check.

Second visit to Oyamel was disappointing. Seated in bad location in seating area to the right (near busing area) despite plentiful tables elsewhere (dining partner did not want to make a fuss). Too much busing traffic probably means table should be taken out of service. Chips and salsa were stars. Plantain fritters, chicken tamal just ok- presentation meh. Ceviche reported by partner to be good. Drinks very good.

Sat at the bar last time & had much better experience. It's hard to get a seat at Oyamel, reservations didn't help, now wondering if it's even worth the effort considering mediocre food this time around.

Food was fantastic. Love the different ceviches, and two of the specials, the enchiladas and the queso hongo should be on the regular menu. Great. Service was spot on, we did not feel rushed and the dishes were space out appropriately. Great job by Kenary G. Highly recommend everything about this restaurant.

Oyamel is another triumph for Jose Andres. My go-to is the blood orange margarita. The ceviches are must-try, and the tacos are crowd favorites. Last but not least, their made to order guacamole is obligatory. Definitely check out Oyamel!

As regular visitors to the Shakespeare Theatre we have been going to Jaleo since it opened. This time we decided to go to Oyamel. Everything was up to expectations EXCEPT the noise level was intolerable. Well, maybe there was an unusually large crowd on a Monday evening because there was an upcoming hockey game at the Cap One Center. We might give Oyamel another try, just to see. But if the noise level is normally that bad we will not return.

ps: the recommendation is conditional on the acceptability of the noise level.

The lunch special of two apps and a taco or an app, taco, and dessert for $20 was great. I had the Shrimp app with poblano mole and black garlic - delicious! The pork taco with pickled onions was small but enough. The tres leches dessert was simply amazing and I know tres leches! My friend had the shrimp torta which she enjoyed. The side salad looked uninspiring - romaine with lots of white cheese on top -- a bit of avocado, tomato or some topping would have been better. The guacamole was also very good, fresh-made.

Will go again - next time ceviche! I've also heard Happy Hour is great. I'll be back!

We've always enjoyed our time at Oyamel. The food is typically outstanding, and it has a great drink list. Last weekend we went to Oyamel for brunch and were unfortunately disappointed with the quality and timing of the food. Our eggs and one taco turned up to our table no less than 5 minutes after we ordered it, and it was cold. Almost 20 minutes later some dishes from the remaining part of our order were delivered to our table, warmer, but at that point our experience was already a bit of a miss.

Oyamel is packed tables, small plates, expensive drinks, and hit or miss menu items. The tacos are the reason I keep coming back - The crispy pork belly taco was the star of our last dinner. I would come back, once I forget again how pricey it is for so little.
