Waitress was pleasant. None of our food was hot and all tasted the same. They were out of almost ever non alcoholic drink on the menu. Beautiful restaurant however, won’t be returning.

Nancy our server was great. Menu is confusing and difficult to navigate but here’s to a great and fun venue. People were having fun and enjoying themselves. Thank you.

Our most recent experience with pre-theatre dining at Oyamel did not begin with a good impression. Although 5:30 pm Sunday is seldom considered prime-time for dining, the host area of the restaurant was mobbed when we arrived, and we were not seated for ten minutes. Once we were at a table, however, our service was quite good. As has been the case with our other dinners in recent years, the quality of dishes varies: the tuna ceviche was quite inspired, the pozole and guacamole that I've had on many prior visits were reliably satisfying, but two vegetable dishes we order, while good, were not at the same level as those I've had in the past two months at other nearby Jose Andres restaurants. This is also the sort of place where one is more likely to be satisfied ordering an extra margarita in lieu of the dessert selections, which are seemingly unchanging and not to my taste.

Be careful of reservations on Open Table. We had to wait 30 minutes from booking time until we got seated. Overbook a little. Food was very good. Ask for no ice in your margarita if you want any much of a drink. Mine was mostly taken up by ice.

The hosts no friendly but the servers are more helpful.

Food was unexpectedly bad this night. Every dish with a sauce was overly salted. My entire table agreed on this. All we could taste was salt on every dish. Conveyed issue with wait staff. Wait staff didn’t see to care but said they told a chef about our feedback. I’m hoping this was a one off because other nights in the past were not like this. Drinks were great as always.

Oyamel needs to either increase their portion sizes or lower their prices. It is way too expensive for the food you get. Also, this especially holds true for the alcohol! I will gladly pay $13 for a margarita but it has to be larger than 7oz which is what they serve and it sucks. :/ we went to another bar afterwards to get real drinks.
Cool place but I won’t be going there again.

The guacamole and huevos rancheros are great, ask for over easy eggs though otherwise they will over cook it.

Very noisy resturant, extremely busy and hip. If you want to enjoy a quiet dinner, go somewhere else. If you want to be hip & cool, this is probably the place.

I had a great first experience at Oyamel! I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and come back. I was drawn to this restaurant after reading the wonderful reviews. The ambience made for a good start to the night out in DC for a date. We tried to freshly made Guac which was delicious. The pitcher of Margaritas was also a nice option ;-) I had never been to a "small plate" Mexican restaurant so it was fun to experiment this way but ordering multiple things! Great for a date.

Consistently excellent in all aspects of the business, i.e. atmosphere, art, food and beverage quality, service, handling reservations, etc. + a large variety of dishes. Recently returned from Oaxaca and Oyamel ranks with the best there.

Host staff are always stellar but table service staff and bartenders always leave a lot to be desired. They're curt, rude, and unhelpful. Not sure why Oyamel can't figure this out.

Food is always consistent but prices have been rising, this is disappointing as it's already quite expensive.

I love Jose Andres’ restaurants, but our experience at Oyamel this Sunday was very poor. Dishes came out very slowly - so slowly that we were full and didn’t want anymore. Even our drinks took forever. I had to hunt down our server to get our check.
I was surprised and saddened by the poor experience.

We are two for two for spotting Obamas at Oyamel at our last two visits! That would be enough, but the dishes made the night extra nice. Mushroom tacos, seviche (small serving but wonderful flavors), meatballs, shrimp. The only not so great was the mole dish, which I remember in past visits as a tasty chicken thigh. This time it was more like a sauced bit of breading.

Oyamel did not live up to expectations. We shared the Brussel sprouts as a table—they were much over-salted and too acidic. The waiter constantly seemed distracted. He dropped a chip in a half-full margarita glass and only offered to replace the glass. For the price of the pitcher, you’d think we could’ve gotten a replacement for the drink (or some kind of comp). The bright spot was the tamal de mole poblano. The sauce was smooth and flavorful.

It is not the first time that my husband and I have been to Oyamel. We really like it! The food is very good. It is a fusion of Spanish/Latin cuisine and served as "Tapas". The service is very professional and kind. The ambiance is also very pleasant. We highly recommend to make reservations in advance. Also, sitting at the bar is fun. The drinks are very good. If you are around downtown DC you should give it a try! It is worth the wait if it is not for more than 20 minutes.

We have come to Oyamel several times before. This time, we did not feel the food was as good as previously. Previously was 2 years ago.

Loved the broccoli, cauliflower and squash salad. Others were less impressive. Maybe we just didnt order the right items.

We are great fans of Jose Andre, though.
