The food was great as expected from one of Jose Andreas’ s restaurant. The bean spread was surprising and flavorful. The meat succulent!

We went for a birthday lunch and it was made special with a complimentary dessert from the restaurant.

This and Jaleo are my two favorite Jose Andres restaurants. The Ceviche is as good as it gets, the Mole was amazing, and the selection of Tequila & Mezcal cannot be beat.

Colorful fun energetic ambience food was lacking. Guacamole was bland, tacos were ok. Good drinks. Would not return.

I had heard a lot of great things about Oyamel and was excited to try my first Jose Andres restaurant, but I was a little underwhelmed. The drinks (we got the house margarita and the mojito) were delicious and the ahi tuna ceviche was AMAZING, but everything else we had was just so-so. The guacamole was not flavorful at all, and the other plates we got (fritters, chicken tamale, and albondigas) were okay, but not great. I would definitely come back for the ceviche and a drink, but would probably skip this place for a special dinner out.

This isn't your abuela's Mexican restaurant, but I bet she would approve! Start with the guacamole and a margarita. The shellfish ceviche was the best I've ever had but you can't go wrong on this menu. And it's worth leaving room for dessert too!

Amazing food and service. Love how casual it is. We were tourists in DC and felt comfortable in jeans and sneakers. Margaritas, guacamole, ceviche and tacos were all exceptional. I also loved that they had a special menu for diners with food allergies. The dessert and special coffee were both delicious!
I also appreciate when restaurants serving high quality food are accommodating to children. My daughter loved her cheese quesadilla and cherry Agua Fresca!

The first time I ate at oyamel I was blown away by the experience, and am less and less impressed with each return trip. We made a reservation on open table and requested a "quiet, comfortable table" in the dining area (because if you get sat near the bar you'll go deaf. We got sat at the world's tiniest 2 top near the ceviche bar between a xenophobic couple where the man hated everything and two women gabbing it up about divorce. I requested to move to a booth that had just come available, and the second of two rude hosts said "that booth was requested." (so not sure what open table reservations are worth)

The menu periodically changes, and not for the better. The better vegetarian dishes (like street corn) are gone - leaving everything basically in quesadilla form or mushroom tacos. It's a heavy & disappointing assortment now. Since I can no longer drink, I was looking forward to dessert - a nice warm chocolate cake with chili powder or churros or anything really. They offered various ice creams and flan. We got the cafe de olla and it was okay - mostly cold and goopy.

Our server was great, but out of the last five times I've been to oyamel I would say I come away progressively more disappointed and it's not worth the price or the hype anymore.

We loved it. Not your typical Mexican restaurant where u leave bloated and full. This was excellent fulfilling dishes that tantalized your palate. Enjoyed by 4 picky women above 50 ( barely) lol. Go if you can you won’t be disappointed.

Took my team of 6 there for lunch on a Monday. Service was excellent - very knowledgeable server who was also attentive without being intrusive. Food was very good, though I thought it was a little expensive for the portion sizes. I realize it is a tapas-like place, but since you need to order 2 or 3 items to feel satisfied, it would be nice if each item was a little less expensive. Overall, we enjoyed it and would come back.

Food was good but the wait service left something to be desired. We were seated for at least 15 minutes before our server was interested in taking any information from us. He immediately asked if we were ready to order our meals. No eye contact. We hadn’t even had a chance to give a drink order. Either he was having a bad day or was annoyed that two people at our table were under 10. I was looking forward to eating at a Jose Andres restaurant for the first time.

I love Oyamel and have been here many times, but on this particular trip I felt that the service was a little off. We weren’t very needy, but when we were ready to order something we always had to flag down our waitress. It wasn’t the busiest I’ve seen it, either. The food is always delicious, and never disappoints! Love the tacos and the guacamole the some of the best I have ever had.

Suggested dinner here for some out-of-town friends recently. The place was busy at 4:00 PM, so I was glad we had a reservation. We ordered tapas-style and drinks, which was enough food for a couple of hours but I was hungry again later, and unfortunately several of the "mild" options were spicy. The experience was fine — certainly the service was excellent — but I probably wouldn't make a point of returning.

As someone with a taste for good Mexican food, I thought Oyamel was terrific. I judge my Mexican restaurants first on salsa and second on mole. Both were wonderful, especially the salsa with a slightly smokey flavor.

This was my first time at Oyamel in several years. I recalled the food being very good in the past, but this time I was quite disappointed. The grilled cactus paddles were soggy and unappealing, the albondigas were bland, and the multiple tacos I had were tiny, greasy and unremarkable. The service was the saving grace -- the staff were very attentive to my fiance's nut allergy and in general very responsive and swift.

Overall I really enjoyed Oyamel. The waitress suggested three or four small plate each. I would say if you get the guacamole, which is really good by the way, you really only need three or four small plates total per couple. I thought the fundido queso was very good but the meatballs and plantains not so much. The meatballs were very dry and The sauce that comes with the plan teens looks and smells like tar and does not taste much better. I will go back for the chips and salsa and guacamole and margaritas though

The food was wonderful and never disappoints. After not having been there for a year or so, it did strike me that the restaurant needs some serious maintenance. Bathrooms old and not very clean; top of wood cabinet in bath water damaged; decal on back of dining chair half peeled off, walls scuffed, etc.

We visited Oyamel after a play at the Lansburgh Theater. The restaurant is right down the block and very convenient. MAKE A RESERVATION! It is critical to make a reservation on weekends. The wait was 1 1/2 hours without one.

The food was good. We had a variety of tacos which were between $4.00 and $5.00. The guacamole appetizer was $15.00. It was very good. We ate for about $40.00 for two people in downtown DC, not a bad price.

It is noisy and busy, so if you are looking for a quite dinner this is not the place. However, if you want to be in a vibrant environment you will love this place.

Loved the Oyamel Experience menu--and especially the pleasant, helpful server, who despite a huge, noisy, cherry blossom crowd, never seemed rushed or hectic. And special thanks, from these two seniors, for the spacious corner booth that gave a semblance of quiet! We loved it.
