Really bad service. The food was either salty or no flavor at all. Not recommending it for the value.
Food was excellent, service attentive
Everything was great start to finish
First, the food was outstanding. What put a mark on the experience was that it was
too loud to hold a conversation. Also the booth we were seated in was pretty
uncomfortable. Felt like we were sitting on rocks and was very low, too low, to the table.
Had a great time - great food and great service. Bonus points for calling me because I left my credit card in the payment folder
We make sure to come each time we’re in DC.
Oyamel has consistently excellent and creative Mexican food. This time, for example, I had a sweet potato “tamale” with guajillo sauce and black beans, along with a more traditional (superbly made) guacamole. And the agua frescas are refreshing and not too sweet. I come here nearly every time I return to DC (where I went to Oyamel weekly). Highly recommended.
We have been coming here for years and depending on what you order, the food is excellent. The service is always great and our waitperson, Carin, was exceptional. The front-end host, Mr. Gray, always makes us feel welcome. We have found that the discusses prepared with less of the sauces are best. While flavorful, the sauces can sometimes be overpowering. The meatball dish has great flavor but they were tough on this last occasion. The ceviche is always excellent, no matter what fish is the specialty. The menu is far reaching and the specialty margaritas and tequila list are outstanding
With a group of 6 for dinner, we let the waitress recommend the dishes. Each dish was great, enjoyed by all.
Nice atmosphere, excellent service, tasty food, on the pricey side compared to the quantity of food.
Food was great. Service was amicable but dishes were a bit slow emerging from the kitchen. Love love love the Mexican tapas here - another gem in the José Andrés food emporium! 😋
We had a great time so I can't note everything here but most memorable was being seated at the time of the reservation (happens less and less these days) and GREAT service.
The tapas style foods are delicious but a bit pricey. The guacamole was quite bland but I guess it depends on who is making it. A great place, yes, but not on a regular basis. The cocktails are also very small and pricey as well. I enjoyed it but the portions are too small and too overpriced. Jaleo is way better for prices. Oyamel is a bit over rated. The decor and ambience is great and I guess you pay for that in the food.
Great food and the place was packed. I’m vegetarian and had lots of options
We had a wonderful meal and incredible service on our visit!
Small plates of intense flavors that entice, entertain and prove very satisfying. Busy restaurants, well staffed, good people watching and delicious food. Most enjoyable.
Great ladies night!
Wow! We had high expectations and we weren't disappointed. Best margarita I've ever had! Loved everything: ceviche, tamal, chicken enchiladas, dessert! Just outstanding in every way! Can't wait to go back.
Great drinks and food !
I love this restaurants but it is VERY loud. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly and well trained. My only complaint, beside the noise, is that when I make a reservation I usually have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for my table.
The service and the food were terrific . The guacamole made on site was delicious too. Knowing it is owned by Jose Andres made it even more special
I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it.
Thank you, Carmelo our server was great. Food and drinks were great.
We dine out often, so I have a good sense of relative value in meals out. For a restaurant at which tacos are highlighted, Oyamel’s were not impressive in terms of flavor and quality. We ordered widely, and some dishes were more successful. Everything, however, arrived after having cooled off too much. We would not return or recommend to others.
Vegetables and tacos were excellent. Shrimp was overcooked. Very loud on a weekday evening and hard to talk to a table of four. Good service.
This is my favorite restaurant in DC. The Mexico City themed food is wonderful as are the various varietals of margaritas.
This place rocks. Authentic gourmet Mexican and fabulous margaritas
The food was delicious and the service good. Chips and salsa very tasty. Tacos yummy. Classic margarita perfect. Decor is very attractive but the restaurant is too noisy. All too common these days, unfortunately. Don’t need the music. Too loud even without the music.
Oyamel seems to have gone down hill over the years. Space could use a refresh, tacos were just "eh" and my husbands breakfast was pretty non memorable as well. The service was hit or miss and overall just not as good as it used to be, it's a shame!
Another excellent meal!!
This restaurant was wonderful, the staff all helped and even though it was mobbed from the Nationals parade, we still got our food quickly and it was amazing. Everything we got was delicious.
Oh! Everything was delicious and interesting. Even the drinks were worth savoring. Loved the seat in the window. Service was great despite the packed house. We love Oyamel and look forward to returning.
Delicious and unique menu items. Great choice. I will definitely be back.
Excellent food and atmosphere!
We both had the $20 lunch special. Mole tomale, shrimp dish and smoked pork tacos and the tres leche and chocolate mousse desserts. Everything was delicious. The layered chocolate dessert (milk chocolate mousse, passion fruit gelee, dark cookie crumbles and dark chocolate mousse was the best dessert I've had in a while. And the savory food was excellent as well. Also want to mention the chips - 2 baskets - they didn't even need the salsa - great salt and peppery taste without - addictive. Will definitely return.
My guests and I loved Oyamel. The food was terrific, and the service was outstanding. Our server, Anya, couldn’t have been more helpful, and the manager ((Danielle) made us feel very welcome. Special thanks to both of them.
The food here is phenomenal! Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu which helped narrow down the many awesome options. I loved the family-style dishes because it allowed our group to try many different things. The salted foam margarita is a must - absolutely amazing!
Nos sentamos en la barra para aprovechar la happy hour. El camarero fue sensacional, la jarra de margarita deliciosa y la comida exquisita. Es la 4ª vez que voy a DC y la 4ª vez que visito el restaurante. Nunca decepciona
Would highly recommend Oyamel for their excellent food. The service was great but a tad slow. The noise level is pretty high to the point where we could not hear the server talk to us. But the food outweighs the ambiance related issues. Highly recommend
