Excellent food and atmosphere, top notch. A little noisy for our visit but fun. The whole trout dish is our of this world.
Food came out sporadically. Everyone got tacos first and then vegetable dishes came out almost 30 minutes later. Just as we were about to cancel order it arrive at the table. Would like side dishes to accompany tacos.
We were served at the time of our reservation. The service and attention was perfect and the food was amazing!!
We came in on Sunday and were sat at a table for two right beside their service station. No complaints here thought we would have great service being right beside everything. She was amazing but I felt she was stretched very far because we continually ran out of chips and water. The other staff was very nice and helped us enjoy our meal. Food was very over priced for what we received. Great place to try but we will not be returning.
Food is delicious but the tables are too close together.
This place is amazing. Best guacamole I have ever had!!
We go there almost every time we visit DC. Their tacos are great. The Margaritas are fantastic. The vegetarian options are tasty and filling. The service is exceptional even when they are busy.
Good was excellent. Very loud and a bit drafty. Service was satisfactory.
I made this reservation a month ahead of time, because it was for 12 people. I was promised 1 table that was going to be "tight" when I called and added 1 more to the reservation.
30 minutes before the reservation they called and told me I had no other option, but to split the table into 2 separate ones. Thinking I had no other choice because the hostess said I didn't...I said ok to the 2 tables. Upon arriving at the restaurant I asked AGAIN about the 2 tables and communicated my frustration to which the hostess responded that the table had already been taken and again made it seem like we had no other choice but 2 tables.
A male in my group then went to the hostess stand to complain AGAIN, to which again the hostess gave grief and in fact blamed the entire thing on me....THE CUSTOMER. She in fact screamed at me to get her point across and screamed at the male in my group. The manager then had to get involved and simply put the tables back together so we could sit at one table, which had PLENTY of room for all of us***
I will not be returning to this restaurant and will certainly not be recommending it. Customer service 101 - "the customer is always right." This could have easily been fixed the first and second time I asked it to be fixed...and in fact should have never been adjusted because I made the reservation a month ahead of time.
*The same hostess came over to our table during dinner to tell us to be quiet.* We were in a private room...on a Saturday night...the restaurant was packed and was everything but quiet.
As always delicious!!! Absolutely love the food, nice Valentine’s dinner.
Great food and amazing staff. We had a gluten allergy in our group that was handled better than anywhere we've ever eaten.
Our waiter was knowledgable and fun.
We had a fantastic Valentine’s Day at Oyemel. From the bartender to the hosts to the servers, it was a festive and friendly experience with innovative and delicious food and drink menu. We asked to move our table to a quieter and less busy spot and were accommodated quickly despite a packed house. We LOVE Jose Andres and will visit his restaurants wherever we go. Highly recommend!!
Had a great time the food was authentic Mexican and the drinks were awesome
Had an 8:15p reservation and was sat down a little after 8:30p. The restaurant was busy. Once seated the service and food was good.
The beef short ribs are the best that I have ever had. Britt was my server and was absolutely lovely, helpful and attentive.
I’ve loved Oyamel. I always felt like it was one of the more consistent Jose experiences. It was Valentine’s Day, so take everything with a grain of salt, but that is exactly what we missed — flavor. Everything felt uninspired. Cocktails were great — Salt Air Margarita, Hibiscus Sphere, Pomegranate Margarita — all lovely. The Serrano Margarita was muted — I’ve had it here with more punch before. As to be expected with Oyamel, it always feels like the bar is understaffed so drink delivery can be delayed. The food was fine; interesting enough, but nothing memorable and surely, for the price, that was disappointing. Ceviche was, as always, lovely and flavorful. Hearts of palm salad was bland — there was nothing going on. Queso Fundido was one note, but again, expected. We had melted cheese with maybe a hint of tequila. Sweet potato tamale was my dates favorite dish — she agreed nothing was memorable, but “if she had to choose.” I thought it was just fine. The croquettes were okay, I guess. The accompanying sweet sauce was enough to remind you that flavor existed. The biggest disappointment of the night was the Guacamole. We ordered medium — had no heat. In the past, it was prepared table side. Someone just walked up and handed it to us. Honestly, my favorite hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in Del Ray makes better guac than what we ate. Again, inconsistent with previous experiences. In all, a pretty average meal for $180.
One last note: we were very disappointed that the Valentine’s Day menu had one course with no vegetarian options. The kitchen was willing to accommodate, but required that we both order the same food. If there’s a Prix Fixe menu, I expect that all diners will be required to order that menu for pacing, etc. To require that both order vegetarian AND the same choices from each course was both surprising and disappointing. We’re already giving you a huge profit margin of 1 vegetarian diner. Don’t force us into two.
The food was phenomenal, the chicken and fish tacos were some of the best I’ve ever had. Our server was very polite and friendly and despite how busy the restaurant was, our food was prepared and brought to the table in a timely matter. The restaurant felt a bit cramped and very noisy, but it was completely understandable because we were there on Valentine’s Day and spacious property is rare in a city like DC. Additionally, our reservations were acknowledged and we were seated immediately upon arrival. The decor in the restaurant is modern and colorful, but in the evening candles were lit at the table and bringing a subtle romantic atmosphere. Great restaurant, great service. My husband and I live in Maryland, but whenever we’re in DC we have to stop here! Prices are high, but worth it for the quality and taste of the food.
Our favorite restaurant in the DMV! So many delicious choices. Food and service are perfect every time !
So delicious! Guacamole is to die for, as well as the quesadilla with corn in it. Can’t go wrong!
The restaurant was extremely noisy. It was difficult to hear the table conversation. The food was only 'okay.'
The problem is the noise level. It was impossible to talk to members of our five person group at our table over the crazy noise level of the other patrons. We ended up just having a pitcher of margaritas which was way expensive and guacamole which was great. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere to eat. The prices for the dishes were reasonable and a very tasty looking menu.
Bustling and fun restaurant with interesting and inventive food. Most of the food was quite and portions were sized well though not so much for sharing. Unfortunately, our server was not attentive making several mistakes on our order. Overall 3 stars out of 5.
Always a fun place. Always packed with people. It's a happenin' scene!
Oyamel used to be my favorite restaurant, but this experience wasn't great. Our booth bench was sunken and uncomfortable. My tamale was cold, the brussel sprouts were too salty, and there was a small piece of bone in my pulled pork taco. Not the quality or experience I remember and expect from prior visits. Service was great and accomodating but these problems still made it a poor visit.
We had reservations, and were sat within a few minutes of arriving. The service was attentive and timely without being over-bearing. The food was sublime: delicious chapulines to start... (and everything that followed was amazing). This was my second visit to Oyamel, and I will most definitely visit again.
Probably the worst service I’ve ever experienced at any establishment. Waitress was not engaged and MIA most of the night. She would have at least doubled the liquor bill if she was present at all. Terrible optics and a shame that such a poor server can leave a negative impression and cost the restaurant MK ey in the process.
One of the best meals I've ever had. And I'm a business traveler who eats out ~4 nights a week.
Honestly the food was so below average (Flavorless, poor presentation) I would have enjoyed my neighborhood Tex Amex restaurant more. Try Rosa Mexicano instead!
Great authentic food. Service was a little slow
We love going to Oyamel. The food is delicious and we enjoy the variety of flavors. The service is excellent. Always a great experience.
Our fourth meal at Oyamel. As always, excellent. As there were four of us, we choose a wide variety of dishes. Excellent margaritas and terrific dessert. Got a little slow at the end as to getting our check, as our waitress was swamped. We enjoyed, and will be back in the near future.
Food was mediocre, the service was good.
We had the best server, Oscar! He recommended drinks and menu items and took amazing care of us. It was a fabulous meal with exceptional courses and a wonderful ambiance
I just love your restaurant. Not only is it a fun time when I am there, but the food is outstanding. Our experience this past Friday (2/7) was so lovely. I arrived very early for my 515 reservation, the traffic getting into DC wasn't as horrible as it could have been. And despite being early and my friend not being there, I was seated very quickly. And then we met our wonderful server, Oscar Gomez. He just took care of us so we had a great night. Once introducing the specials to us he proceeded to offer advice on what to order in pairs and he was right. It was wonderful. We had not been paying close attention to time and needed to leave for our show, but we would have loved to try more. We had two of the three truffle specials and the ribs. Those dishes were excellent. We of course had guacamole and we each enjoyed cocktails. Oscar, we have been to Oyamel before, but thank you so much for making this visit an experience and so much fun! Your recommendations we lovely and you treated us like we were your only table (and WE WERE NOT!1) We of course will be back. Thank you so much!
Yes, the guacamole & chips were freshly made & delicious! We were a party of three and in addition to the guacamole & chips we ordered 5 small plates and a single taco. Vegan & vegetarians option. Food was delicious and plentiful. Service was awesome! Would definitely be back...
Excellent food and service! Had a small child in our party who slept through dinner.
The food was flavorful, prepared with fresh ingredients. The service is always outstanding!
