All was excellent, except the music, it was like a guitar bass nightmare and the temperature was a bit colder than desirable 67F
Food was disappointing
The host and server were very accommodating. I’m glad we made reservations. The guacamole was excellent as always.
The only reason they got an overall one star, and not a zero, was because of the guacamole. The service was horrendous, as was the atmosphere. I do feel badly for the servers. They are not responsible for the management of the restaurant.
We love Oyamel! This was the first time taking our little girls there. They love it now too! The food and atmosphere are awesome! Service was great too! And we appreciated super yummy dessert for my birthday!
The food was delicious, small plates, 3 dishes plus the guacamole (which was excellent & pricey) with the chips was enough for 2.
Wonderful birthday celebration for my business partner of 25 yesrs
Outstanding food, friendly staff and joyfull interior decoration. A bit noisy. One of my favorite places in DC
Great spot for dinner, solid happy hour. Best guacamole I’ve had in ages. Tried the grasshopper tacos. Not for everyone, but not bad either!
Wait staff excellent, food fantastic.
Enjoyed the excellent tasting menu at Oyamel - it was great, varied and a lot of food!
Almost every dish was over salted. Some were hard to eat as prepared. I like this restaurant but either today was extra salt day or I forgot what the normal preparation is.
Service was very good.
Always a good choice when in DC. Reservations are must. It is always packed with locals, which is a good sign.
Based on the food this time, no. The quality of food has definitely gone down,
Food was inedible, other than guac. We didnt even finish The huevos rancheros and the churros- when you cant convince people to eat already paid for sugary fried bread- youre doing something horribly wrong. We were there before opening by 5 mins and the receptionist unlocked the door but didnt open. Just walked away. Also, it didnt seem clean at all which is why we didnt have any ceviche.
Fun, cool vibe. Great ambiance and beautiful decor. Their small plates concept is great for sharing on a date or in groups and you get the opportunity to try a lot on the menu.
Amazing place, amazing food and kind sounds...
Thank you guys
Delicious as always. My friends and I had a wonderful time!
It was a busy day which was reflected in the service. Value for $ was mixed on portion size but no much blew me away on taste.
Great for after theater - no problems with reservation, attractive & creative venue, very affectionate and helpful service, fantastic food. One problem: the noise level. I know this is a problem at many DC restaurants - we had to shout across the table to have a conversation. Other than that all a ten. Love the papier mache animals on the ceiling, the ribs, and our attentive waitstaff.
Meals are ALWAYS delicious. Great service. Lots of diverse choices.
We ate at Oyamel before a Caps game, and it will now be our go-to pre-game dining spot.
Excellent menu selections, excellent food & cocktails, great service, and wonderful setting.
Great food and service.
If you like Real and creative Mexican food, this is the place. Tex Mex this is not.
Pleasant place to meet up or have a bite before theater.
Beautiful atmosphere and spectacularly delicious food. Inside was noisy, but we sit outside. The food came fast, the service was excellent, just be prepared for small plates. The upside of small plates is that you can get some variety, or eat less if you're not so hungry. I ordered just 2 small plates, plus shared their wonderful guacamole, and that was plenty for that occasion (early supper).
Enjoyed the food although some of the items that my daughter ordered were too spicy for her liking so a warning from the server might have been helpful. Also it seemed that the service wasn't as attentive as it could have been, though we did get out in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant is VERY loud!
I used to love Oyamel and I still the food is excellent...for adults... hadnt been to Oyamel with my daughter before this last occasion, and it's just not kid friendly, aside from the noise level. The service was really slow, and the waiter just didn't understand that chile for most kids is too spicy. I LOVE spicy foods and my daughter does not like traditional bland/fried kids menu items, but she doesn't like chile. Anyhow, we won't be back as a family as a result of the service and menu not being kid-friendly.
Full gluten free (and other allergen) menu. Tons of options. I am celiac and didn't have any issues. Great service.
The host is wonderful and worth every return visit. He is so welcoming.
The food is consistently delicious.
Only complaint is that it was a bit noisy.
Will always return as it is always a treat.
A fun place to catch up with an old friend. The server was helpful with making suggestions & the food was yummy.
We were at a table in the back room, which was dark, but quieter than being in the front. Our table ordered a pitcher of margaritas and 12 tapa plates for 4 people. The service was good and the food was delicious and the ambiance was a lot of fun (particularly after the margaritas). We will return.
It’s hard to find quality Mexican food. Oyamel delivers, but really, why at such a high price? It’s hard to enjoy tiny quesadillas.
It was a great experience! The server, although I don’t remember her name, was wonderful. Her drink suggestions were spot on and lead me to the best margarita of my life! The guacamole was worth the wait and delicious. The ceviche was my favorite part, well tied with the oyamel margarita! We will definitely make it a point to stop in every time we’re in DC!
We've been to Oyamel a number of times, and enjoy it everytime. We find the menu a bit limited, but
we usually go with our standards. The downside to that is that we would not go real often.
A must try! Great portions with an explosion of flavor. Great drink selection as well
I dine here every time I come to Washington. Food is always great and the décor adds an extra touch,
Delicious guacamole & salt foam margaritas! Great service as well!
We were in the city for Cherry Blossom time and wanted to try one of Chief Andres restaurants. We made reservations and were greeted warmly. Seated immediately even though restaurant was quite busy. The waitress suggested how we might want to order as the menu is made up of small plates. We ordered six plates and were pleasantly surprised that they arrived groups so we could enjoy each plate and not feel rushed. The food itself was tasty and were not your everyday Mexican food from your local hometown eatery.
If you are in DC you need to try this restaurant.
