Enjoyed dinner Saturday.... we shared the seafood salad and salmon appetizers. Both were excellent but the salmon was one of the best seafood appetizers I’ve ever had. My wife had the striped bass and I the steak. The bass was great. The steak was cooked to perfection but lacked just a bit in taste. The au gratin potato the came with the steak was very tasty. We also shared a side of brussels sprouts which had a really nice flavor. Desert was the apple crisp... worth every calorie. Overall a really nice meal, glad we chose it and would definitely go back. I’d be remiss if I didn’t compliment the excellent service by our waitress as well as the runners and bus team, all extremely pleasant, professional and efficient.
The noise was a little loud as we were seated near the bar. The waiter George was very attentive.
We sat at our table for more than an hour. Our server never showed up, in spite of requesting service three times. We finally stood up to leave and while we were definitely seen doing so, we were still ignored. Fortunately there are lots of restaurants on Columbus...
Maybe. I had specifically requested a table by the window. When we arrived at 545pm for a 6pm reservation, the restaurant was fairly emptied however we were shown to the last table in the rear. When I requested another table, we were shown to a two seater next to the water pitchers. As you can imagine, the waiters were always going to the water pitchers. Also We both ordered soup, but only mine came out. They didn’t hear my husband’s order. Very disappointing.
Delicious halibut, good rec on the wine and the red wine was appropriately slightly chilled.
Very cosy neighbouhood restaurant. Friends and guests enjoy meeting there for a cettain comfortable outing.
Main entree took well over an hour to be served, on a Thursday. Food was good but that’s just not cricket.
Would definitely return for their meal. We had their Thanksgiving dinner and it was AMAZING!! Very friendly staff, we enjoyed it very much.
The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious!!!!!!!
I'm not sure why I haven't been here sooner, as we live nearby. We went for Thanksgiving and I must say - it was one of the few places that had an affordable holiday meal. Most places were $89 and up for prix fixe meal. They had a regular menu that included a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for like $32.50. The plate was wonderfully presented with white and dark meat, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, a roasted sweet potato. We started with the delicious deviled eggs so it was hard to finish the whole meal :)
creative drinks on the menu, too. Looking forward to returning.
Great food. Good location. Noise level very high. Service poor.
In a party of 5, both the pork chop and the halibut were way overcooked. Our waiter came and looked and was in agreement - he apologized and both were sent back. The two dishes came back muchhh better but those individuals had to wait an additional 20 minutes to eat. Disappointed Oxbow did not do anything in addition to make the situation better.
Absolutely delicious, excellent service & warm and inviting atmosphere. A little loud but not a problem.
I was expecting one of the best restaurants in the Upper West Side and unfortunately, Oxbow tavern did not deliver. The positives including prompt seating and excellent service. The ambiance of the restaurant is bland. When reading the menu, you get the feeling that you are in for a top-notch meal; the food did not match up. I truly felt that the appetizer I ordered could have been purchased at the corner bodega for less than $2. My entree was surprising in it's presentation, but that did not upset me- it was the disappointing taste that did. It was certainly flavorful, but not necessarily in an enjoyable way. If the restaurant presented itself differently and the prices were half of what they are, the experience would have been more palatable.
Wonderful! Good food, great service, very helpful - thank you!
Solidly good food in a nice atmosphere. We had so-so service. When we didn't order appetizers, our server seemed to lose in us. Very good neighborhood feel.
Second visit here and it was better the first time. Our waitress "hovered" for us to place our order quickly, portions were very small. My husband ordered the halibut and it said it was on a cauliflower puree but there was about a tablespoon of puree. Chickpea fries were delicious. Not sure we would go back though.
Loved this place! We used to go to Ouest and didn’t know that this place had opened! Excellent experience! Great service from our waiter George too!! We’ll be back for sure!!!
They really need to address their very bad and
non existent service. Terrible attitude from waiter staff.
They act like they are doing u a favor taking your order and bringing u food. This was my “go to “ neighborhood restaurant and unfortunately it has gone down hill with the Oxbow name. Food is fine but there are enough restaurants that bad service and attitude equals “ I don’t need to go there “ .
I go to OxBow freqently. The service on 11/11/2019 at 6;30p with one waitress was unusually slow, especially getting drinks and off the cuff. One was forced to use the bus person to get bread and drinks. Resturant was only moderately busy. To be fair this is unusual and hasn't happened before. Just a hint.
Overall a mediocre experience. The duck entree was good, the halibut was dry, and unfortunately our waitress was brusque bordering on rude.
This was a brunch visit and the service and food was very good. Also, they nicely accommodated my daughter.
Three guests and I went for a Saturday evening dinner at Oxbow. We got a window seat as requested which was nice. Two guests ordered specialty cocktails and enjoyed them. Another guest and I shared a bottle of red wine. Nice list but no reasonably priced options. Our server and support staff are very attentive and helpful with menu choices. We all had fish options and all were delicious. My salmon was perfectly cooked (rare as requested). Place has a nice buzz.
Disappointed - food was cold and underseasoned - Tom Valenti's name is on the menu, but his great cuisine was nowhere to be found. But, I would give them another chance.
Great food, great service. Always a pleasure to eat at Oxbow.
Gracious service even when a diner arrived 45 minutes late. Kudos!😃
Fine. Wonderful service. Food was fine. That sounds worse than it is. Perhaps this writer is jaded. Endive salad was good, so was halibut. The food is pretty much the same as the old Ouest. Which we loved. Maybe it’s the ambience. Hard chairs. Lots of tables. Doesn’t feel as upscale as the food warrants. Also the table next to us were very loud talkers. Not the restaurant’s fault. But there’s nothing to absorb the sound. So tepid review not due to food but due to ambience. Definitely will return. Again, maybe this is a jaded diner talking.
Enjoyed dinner. Good food and drinks.
vaunted grilled pork chop was poorly seasoned and meat itself was mushy.
steak had to be sent back--it was medium instead of the medium-rare we ordered. it's been fine on prior visits.
oxbow cocktail was good.
coq au vin pretty good.
tarte flambee is very good.
Food was horrible. Coq au Vin was in a thick overdone sauce. Chicken was really overcooked. Halibut was dry and tasteless. Server clearly not interested in our table, and we were out quickly. Pricing is way off for food quality.
I was a big fan of Ouest so I was looking forward to trying Tom Valenti’s new place. It was disappointing.
Nice ambience, rather perfunctory service bur the food was just not very good. Had a steak that was pretty tough and gristly. But the really silly thing was something called Galfrettes as an appetizer. It was a handful of Ruffles potato chips with onion dip for about $10. What?
I asked for a glass of Chenin Blanc and she brought me Sauvignon Blanc without telling me as they were out of the Chenin Blanc. Not too nice. Then the waiters changed and we were happy with the new one.The waiter/waitress should always tell the customer if they are out of a certain wine and not try to pass it off as the one I ordered. Deviled eggs were delicious. Wonderful burger and salad.
Very nice place, easily accessible not too noisy, delicious food and portion sizes and prompt service by courteous staff.
It was a fun night with one exception - the servers and service was meh. Maybe it was just an off night for them.
I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS RESTAURANT 5 STARS HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE INCREDIBLY LOUD LEVEL OF NOISE DUE TO HARD SURFACES AND VERY CLOSELY SPACED TABLES. THE FOOD AND SERVICE WERE GREAT, BUT I WON'T RETURN DUE TO THE NOISE.
Oxbow is a bustling place without many tables for two or privacy. We were seated near a walking path of the waitstaff and were repeatedly jostled throughout our meal. Our table for two was also almost connected to those next to us, which was fine when it was only another couple eating dinner next to us, less so when it became a party of 7 teenage girls celebrating a birthday - we felt like their parents chaperoning the event. That said, the food is very good - the chicken sandwich and french fries were delicious - if you're heading out with a group this would be a great place to come.
Everything was mediocre except the service which was poor. Things have gone down hill at this spot which used to be lovely.
Very relaxing meal because of the excellent service and great food. I had the haddock, my friend had the fried chicken and chocolate mousse cake and everything was delicious.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Very good food, nice service in a comfortable setting.
We were only there for brunch, but I will definitely go back for dinner.
