Solidly good food in a nice atmosphere. We had so-so service. When we didn't order appetizers, our server seemed to lose in us. Very good neighborhood feel.
Second visit here and it was better the first time. Our waitress "hovered" for us to place our order quickly, portions were very small. My husband ordered the halibut and it said it was on a cauliflower puree but there was about a tablespoon of puree. Chickpea fries were delicious. Not sure we would go back though.
Loved this place! We used to go to Ouest and didn’t know that this place had opened! Excellent experience! Great service from our waiter George too!! We’ll be back for sure!!!
They really need to address their very bad and
non existent service. Terrible attitude from waiter staff.
They act like they are doing u a favor taking your order and bringing u food. This was my “go to “ neighborhood restaurant and unfortunately it has gone down hill with the Oxbow name. Food is fine but there are enough restaurants that bad service and attitude equals “ I don’t need to go there “ .
I go to OxBow freqently. The service on 11/11/2019 at 6;30p with one waitress was unusually slow, especially getting drinks and off the cuff. One was forced to use the bus person to get bread and drinks. Resturant was only moderately busy. To be fair this is unusual and hasn't happened before. Just a hint.
Overall a mediocre experience. The duck entree was good, the halibut was dry, and unfortunately our waitress was brusque bordering on rude.
This was a brunch visit and the service and food was very good. Also, they nicely accommodated my daughter.
Three guests and I went for a Saturday evening dinner at Oxbow. We got a window seat as requested which was nice. Two guests ordered specialty cocktails and enjoyed them. Another guest and I shared a bottle of red wine. Nice list but no reasonably priced options. Our server and support staff are very attentive and helpful with menu choices. We all had fish options and all were delicious. My salmon was perfectly cooked (rare as requested). Place has a nice buzz.
Disappointed - food was cold and underseasoned - Tom Valenti's name is on the menu, but his great cuisine was nowhere to be found. But, I would give them another chance.
Great food, great service. Always a pleasure to eat at Oxbow.
Gracious service even when a diner arrived 45 minutes late. Kudos!😃
Fine. Wonderful service. Food was fine. That sounds worse than it is. Perhaps this writer is jaded. Endive salad was good, so was halibut. The food is pretty much the same as the old Ouest. Which we loved. Maybe it’s the ambience. Hard chairs. Lots of tables. Doesn’t feel as upscale as the food warrants. Also the table next to us were very loud talkers. Not the restaurant’s fault. But there’s nothing to absorb the sound. So tepid review not due to food but due to ambience. Definitely will return. Again, maybe this is a jaded diner talking.
Enjoyed dinner. Good food and drinks.
vaunted grilled pork chop was poorly seasoned and meat itself was mushy.
steak had to be sent back--it was medium instead of the medium-rare we ordered. it's been fine on prior visits.
oxbow cocktail was good.
coq au vin pretty good.
tarte flambee is very good.
Food was horrible. Coq au Vin was in a thick overdone sauce. Chicken was really overcooked. Halibut was dry and tasteless. Server clearly not interested in our table, and we were out quickly. Pricing is way off for food quality.
I was a big fan of Ouest so I was looking forward to trying Tom Valenti’s new place. It was disappointing.
Nice ambience, rather perfunctory service bur the food was just not very good. Had a steak that was pretty tough and gristly. But the really silly thing was something called Galfrettes as an appetizer. It was a handful of Ruffles potato chips with onion dip for about $10. What?
I asked for a glass of Chenin Blanc and she brought me Sauvignon Blanc without telling me as they were out of the Chenin Blanc. Not too nice. Then the waiters changed and we were happy with the new one.The waiter/waitress should always tell the customer if they are out of a certain wine and not try to pass it off as the one I ordered. Deviled eggs were delicious. Wonderful burger and salad.
Very nice place, easily accessible not too noisy, delicious food and portion sizes and prompt service by courteous staff.
It was a fun night with one exception - the servers and service was meh. Maybe it was just an off night for them.
I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS RESTAURANT 5 STARS HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE INCREDIBLY LOUD LEVEL OF NOISE DUE TO HARD SURFACES AND VERY CLOSELY SPACED TABLES. THE FOOD AND SERVICE WERE GREAT, BUT I WON'T RETURN DUE TO THE NOISE.
Oxbow is a bustling place without many tables for two or privacy. We were seated near a walking path of the waitstaff and were repeatedly jostled throughout our meal. Our table for two was also almost connected to those next to us, which was fine when it was only another couple eating dinner next to us, less so when it became a party of 7 teenage girls celebrating a birthday - we felt like their parents chaperoning the event. That said, the food is very good - the chicken sandwich and french fries were delicious - if you're heading out with a group this would be a great place to come.
Everything was mediocre except the service which was poor. Things have gone down hill at this spot which used to be lovely.
Very relaxing meal because of the excellent service and great food. I had the haddock, my friend had the fried chicken and chocolate mousse cake and everything was delicious.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Very good food, nice service in a comfortable setting.
We were only there for brunch, but I will definitely go back for dinner.
Great food and vibe. We had such a good time that we ended up drinking far too much wine, then ordered Irish coffees. It ended up the most expensive meal of our holiday. Beware!
The food here is very tasty, though a rather limited menu. Alas, main courses arrived from the kitchen only warm, had obviously been sitting for some minutes. It’s very noisy when busy.
Not the usual dining experience. Have been to Oxbow many times. Waited an hour for our main course. When our meal finally came my wife’s halibut was cold and had to be sent back. The waiter was totally inept. The only good thing was the manager bought us dessert. Too many other choices in the neighborhood. Don’t know what was going on in the kitchen or perhaps they were under staffed. It was a Tuesday evening at 6pm so not even like prime time or a weekend
Food is excellent and executed well. Service was on point. No complaints really enjoyed the experience.
Oxbow, under the formidable Tom Valenti, delivers decent, simple food to the UWS, which is a food desert. Any drop helps! Thank you, Oxbow.
Great for Lincoln center proximity w/o the crowds
Dinner was great. Food was terrific. Service could have been a little faster but staff was courteous and accommodating. Atmosphere was comfortable and casual.
I'd definitely go again.
The food and service were so wonderful. One of my guests ordered seconds & that’s never happened before. Delicious highly recommend.
Miracles of miracles, the corn and chive risotto that accompanied the wild striped bass was prepared al dente--so hard to find in the U.S.! The fish was perfectly cooked. The braised duck gizzards came with a delectable sauce. The service staff was charming and attentive even though we had the last reservation/last order at 9:30 on a Saturday night.
good food, close to Lincoln Center, friendly service
Amazing service from the staff. They were very accommodating even though we showed up too early for our reservation. The ambiance is also great.
We had a corner table looking out at NYC going by. The service was perfect. Attentive without being obtrusive. The lamb Bolognese was very good but not the best I’ve had. The ambiance was perfect for a Friday night in NY. Would recommend. We will be back.
A neighborhood restaurant that serves A+ food in a great atmosphere with great service. Try to get a table by the window - a fun, New York experience in a great New York Neighborhood.
I've loved this restaurant but own this one occasion, it was a little disappointing. The food was mostly great. The French onion soup is terrific. The seafood salad appetizer wasn't great. A little too sharp for our tastes. The double pork chops were fine and the pasta was very good. As always, the rinks are pricey, but they were doing a terrific bar business on a Weds. evening.
The service was efficient. Not as friendly as usual.
The ambience is great if you don't mind the noise. There is a lot going on between people at the bar and adjoining tables. It is a fun place if you enjoy people-watching.
