Food was uninspired and disappointing. I could make better coq au vin. In a party of five, no one was impressed by their entree.
What started out on a good foot, quickly slid...seated on time, polite waitress only to have her disappear...We sat while other tables ordered...then we ordered....the food came but missing waitress and missing french fries....eventually they showed up but only eventually...another staff was really rude - when I asked if he could get the ice cream out quickly, he basically said no...that they "send it up when they send it up." Really? And when I indicated I would like my coat, he just ignored me. Others have said they have seen a service issue there so...something like that sort of ruins the overall experience. Others get both, good food and good service...so...onwards.
My boyfriend, his brother and I went here before a painting class on a Monday evening - it was superb! We shared the mushroom tarte flambee and I thought we were going to have to order another one. It was so flavorful and perfectly warm and melty. We had the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich, Australian Lamp Chops and Coq Au Vin. I can say hands-down it was the best Coq Au Vin I've ever had, including in Paris. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked and moist throughout (I did not try the chicken sandwich). For dessert: a cheesecake, chocolate cake and a passion fruit pudding (i'm not doing the descriptions justice - they were to-die-for!). Wine list is very well thought out and the champagne is superb! LOVE IT!
Interesting bistro menu, a little something for everyone, convenient location. Be warned however: Happy Hour is very popular, which makes seating iffy during that time. It's those terrific HH prices and options!
My only real complaint is that the decor is hard-edged--tile floor, tin ceiling, iron fixtures, widows out to the street, etc. So it can get deafeningly loud. Knowing this in advance, I requested the quietest table in the house--which we got. But it was still hard for a foursome to converse at a comfortable level.
Food is always delicious and fresh. Service is professional, and always makes for a fun time
First time visit to this spot. Outstanding in every way. I especially want to compliment our server and the overall service - it was excellent. Food was terrific.
Always great food and service!
The service was very poor. The food was ok but nothing great. The only good thing was that the place was quiet because was Sunday evening.
Everything we had was delicious. They have great onion soup and the burger was prepared exactly as ordered.
our concert at Lincoln Center finished early and we arrive to an open restaurant at 4:30. We were told we could order a drink at the bar or take a walk until 5:00. Really ?!
Food was great. A bowl of soup should never cost $16 though
The food & service were very good but the main courses come without any sides Nothing! At this price point it would be nice to include a vegetable or other side with the main course.
New Years Eve The service was excellent. The caviar appetizer had maybe 1/8 tsp of caviar and the lobster ragout was 75% gnocchi. The panda cotta was excellent and light and creamy .Oxbow has been a favorite of our but now I’m not sure.
Awesome service delicious food. Was in from TX for New year's The chicken sandwich and mushroom tart were outstanding, ate there two nights in a row, highly recommended
Awesome chicken sandwich and mushroom tart pizza, highly recommend
Steak was extremely tough and fatty.
Perfect in every way
It was our misfortune to dine during a shift change in the wait staff. The late crew were disinterested and almost rude. The stripped bass and halibut were both tasty but the halibut was a meager portion and the small amount of cauliflower puree under the fish did not make up for the lack of a vegetable. There was no bread served.
Very popular bar scene, with great food. Convenient to Lincoln Center.
Great food, good service and very nice atmosphere.
I eat there frequently. Food nicely prepared, wait staff attentive and friendly. A nice neighborhood venue.
Great food and overall experience! Wish the waiter would have been a bit more attentive towards the end of the night. We waited 15-20 for the check.
Very delicious food. Overpriced though.
Enjoyed dinner Saturday.... we shared the seafood salad and salmon appetizers. Both were excellent but the salmon was one of the best seafood appetizers I’ve ever had. My wife had the striped bass and I the steak. The bass was great. The steak was cooked to perfection but lacked just a bit in taste. The au gratin potato the came with the steak was very tasty. We also shared a side of brussels sprouts which had a really nice flavor. Desert was the apple crisp... worth every calorie. Overall a really nice meal, glad we chose it and would definitely go back. I’d be remiss if I didn’t compliment the excellent service by our waitress as well as the runners and bus team, all extremely pleasant, professional and efficient.
Thank you, Caplmp23, We’re so happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us. We hope to see you again soon.
The noise was a little loud as we were seated near the bar. The waiter George was very attentive.
We sat at our table for more than an hour. Our server never showed up, in spite of requesting service three times. We finally stood up to leave and while we were definitely seen doing so, we were still ignored. Fortunately there are lots of restaurants on Columbus...
Hello MichaelS, We’re sorry to hear this, and quite surprised. Please let us know the date and time you visited and we will follow up. Thank you.
Maybe. I had specifically requested a table by the window. When we arrived at 545pm for a 6pm reservation, the restaurant was fairly emptied however we were shown to the last table in the rear. When I requested another table, we were shown to a two seater next to the water pitchers. As you can imagine, the waiters were always going to the water pitchers. Also We both ordered soup, but only mine came out. They didn’t hear my husband’s order. Very disappointing.
Hello Sandyw, We’re sorry to hear this. The last table in the rear in the window is frequently requested, so we do apologize that it wasn’t to your liking. Please let us know if you have a specific request in the future, and we’ll do our very best to make you comfortable. Thank you.
Delicious halibut, good rec on the wine and the red wine was appropriately slightly chilled.
Very cosy neighbouhood restaurant. Friends and guests enjoy meeting there for a cettain comfortable outing.
Thank you, KathyD!
Main entree took well over an hour to be served, on a Thursday. Food was good but that’s just not cricket.
Hello JimM, Thank you for commenting. An hour is curiously long--did you speak to a manager? Please let us know the date and time you visited, and we’ll follow up. Thank you.
Would definitely return for their meal. We had their Thanksgiving dinner and it was AMAZING!! Very friendly staff, we enjoyed it very much.
Just horrible. I had a fish plate (Halibut). The fish was dry and the portion was small. Actually, everything was overpriced. The server was super unfriendly, slow and generally off putting. The restaurant was too cold and loud. On top of this, I was overcharged and they were very unresponsive.
Hello CafeL, We’re very sorry to hear you had a bad experience here. Please write us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org o m and we’ll clear up anything that was overcharged. Thank you.
The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious!!!!!!!
I'm not sure why I haven't been here sooner, as we live nearby. We went for Thanksgiving and I must say - it was one of the few places that had an affordable holiday meal. Most places were $89 and up for prix fixe meal. They had a regular menu that included a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for like $32.50. The plate was wonderfully presented with white and dark meat, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, a roasted sweet potato. We started with the delicious deviled eggs so it was hard to finish the whole meal :)
creative drinks on the menu, too. Looking forward to returning.
Great food. Good location. Noise level very high. Service poor.
In a party of 5, both the pork chop and the halibut were way overcooked. Our waiter came and looked and was in agreement - he apologized and both were sent back. The two dishes came back muchhh better but those individuals had to wait an additional 20 minutes to eat. Disappointed Oxbow did not do anything in addition to make the situation better.
Absolutely delicious, excellent service & warm and inviting atmosphere. A little loud but not a problem.
I was expecting one of the best restaurants in the Upper West Side and unfortunately, Oxbow tavern did not deliver. The positives including prompt seating and excellent service. The ambiance of the restaurant is bland. When reading the menu, you get the feeling that you are in for a top-notch meal; the food did not match up. I truly felt that the appetizer I ordered could have been purchased at the corner bodega for less than $2. My entree was surprising in it's presentation, but that did not upset me- it was the disappointing taste that did. It was certainly flavorful, but not necessarily in an enjoyable way. If the restaurant presented itself differently and the prices were half of what they are, the experience would have been more palatable.
Wonderful! Good food, great service, very helpful - thank you!
